Mountain Brothers General Store is a locally run tourist gift shop off the beaten path not too far from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They sell a variety of local art, food items, mountain inspired gifts and clothing. The place is large inside and meanders through several rooms. I picked up a mug for my granddaughter and locally made pickles, jam and pancake mix. Prices are reasonable. This is a fun little stop. The staff is friendly. This place is a gem! They have specialty foods like fudge (that is made on-site), fried pies, jams, jellies, apple butter, and pickled (anything you can think of.) lol. I recently purchased pickled squash there. I was hesitant to purchase and open the jar, but turns out, I really liked it! I'll get it again and be more open to try other pickled items I would've questioned. We like their assortment of popcorn and variety of coffee. The lovely aroma hits you when you enter the store. They had Smoky Mountain Sunset coffee to taste test the day I went to the store, and I just got a little sample bag of it. It has become a favorite of mine and to whomever I serve it to, so I'll be getting a much bigger bag next time. If you like flavored coffee, I highly suggest you try it. They also sell old-fashioned candies. I got something I had never heard of before, Horehound, and I like it a lot. They have ice cream and taffy. If looking for souvenirs, they have crafts made by locals, like baskets and wood carvings. T-shirts, hats, candles, and garden decor are available too. It's FUN to go to each area of this store! I've gone several times and see something new at each visit. I look forward to returning anytime I'm in the vicinity, because I like getting my favorite things and finding surprises. It was a gem to find in Sevierville while we were exploring the area for covered bridges. It's a General Store nested next to the brewery by the same name.The general store had a lots of items ranging from food and souvenir items to bird feeders and bird food. They have some very good coffee from a local roaster. Ice cream shop was next door as well as an outside stand for fresh popped kettle popcorn. Lots of open field behind the store and a nice view of the landscape. Worth a stop just to kick back at least. read more

What a lovely surprise! Stopped in the general store one last time before leaving the area and noticed this small nano brewery. Enjoyed a flight of their brews and was delighted by the flavors. The brothers only have been opened less than a year and recently returned from a beer festival where they won second place for their B.E.A.R. Beer - a berry flavored beer that was delicious! They have a ton of merchandise and a beautiful seating area on the porch that over looks the wood carving area. The area over looks the mountains and has a little bit of something for everyone. The owner was very pleasant to speak to and was helpful in explaining the beer flavors. read more

Late post: I went to go grab my items for the half marathon in a nearby city where I came across this great gem. I'm from Texas and ot seems to be an equivalent to Buccees in our area. They sell local items from nearby vendors which is awesome. I bought some coffee they sold which I tried later on and it was amazing. Definitely worth stopping by to grab some goodies! read more

The term "General Store" has many definitions and if you are thinking you're gonna step back in time think again and put things in perspective so you can manage your level of expectations. The General Stores of the 1840's and 1850's that sold hard-tack, building materials and other supplies that supported the settlers as they made their way across the country heading to California were a necessity for the survival of the masses as they sought out a better life and fortunate, they were built and operated in every town across America and ran by the entrepreneurs of the times. This is not the business model here but the buildings here somewhat replicate the buildings of that era with the wooden creaking floors, the wood barrel displays, bins and jars filled with candies and rows of jars filled with jellies, jams, salsa and sauces. The General Stores of the early and mid-1900's that occupied nearly every downtown district of small town America were evolving into department stores filled with textiles, canning supplies, nails, rope, lumber and leather goods. You could grab a bottle of pop and baked goods as well as merchandise found in the mail order catalogs of the day. The General Stores of the 1960's and 1970's looked more like today's hardware stores, plumbing supplies, keys and locks, clothes pins, screws, nuts and bolts - baby chicks, hay, pesticides and power tools. Today's General Stores are less about form and function and more about souvenirs and tourism, you won't find keys here but there are plenty of personalized key chains and refrigerator magnets, ice cream and fudge, popcorn, peanuts, beef jerky and candy from days gone by but don't expect to pay a penny for a Mary Jane or a nickel for a Slow Poke - there are hundreds of jars of private label can goods and a large variety of honeys and syrups. Most modern general stores reflect the themes of the area that surrounds them and are fully stocked with wood cravings of bears, squirrels and beavers, painted rocks and gemstones. There's nothing bad here and everyone should stop in to kill some time, take a break and reminisce - most items may be reproductions but still represents the good ole days pretty good - your kids can't touch and feel things you and your parents used on a daily basis so yes it's educational. We passed this on our way to Elvira's, and knew we wanted to stop on the way back. As soon as you get out of the vehicle, you are greeted with the most breathtaking view of the mountains. Since Halloween is around the corner, they had everything decorate so lovely, and had a cute little haybale couch where you could take pics in front of the mountain. The store itself had plenty of wonderful souvenirs and novelties, and had such a broad selection of jellies, jams, pickles, and even a full coffee bean bar to take home! This is a really cute store and worth finding if in the area. I'm glad we went off the beaten path and found it. This general store sells so many unique items and some must have products. You can find t-shirts, jewelry, household items, garden flags, decorations, souvenirs, local coffee, popcorn, jams and jellies, salsas, fudge, ice cream and so much more here. It's so fun just to look around. During our visit, hubby and I bought some jelly, popcorn, fudge, and a mug for plumbers. Off-the-beaten-path souvenirs shop with homemade fudge and sourthern charm. The term "souvenirs" is loosely appropriate since these days many gifts in these local shops are produced in countries that some Americans blame for current world issues. Esp Maga-folk. Nonetheless they sell gear representative of the locale. Hoodies, tees, hats, trucker hats, blankets, warm wears, flatware, dishware, gimmicky magnets with names and rural naming. Food stuffs, candies and fudge. It's a general store but instead of carrying the general food staples, they carry any and all gifts and food stuffs you could want. Surprised to find gluten free corn bread mix. Honey, syrups, jams, jerkey, spreads, postcards and more. Pricing is all over the place but the building is quite large and if you look around enough, you may find gifts available in your price bracket. As others have mentioned they sell maga gear though not a ton, just a smidgen. Best of all, none of that other flag biz. Based on that, I decided to buy. But I guess they don't realize how many tourists of American backgrounds are also "shopping local" to help out. Based solely on not having Insurrectionist attire, I bought a few gifts. They have a samples area for fudgies. There were at least four varieties available. Squares are $4.00. Good deal. I made the trip from the KOA in Townsend just for the fried apple pie! It's delicious. No - it's a freaking slice of heaven! If you are anywhere near I so recommend the fried pies. The best I've ever had. I also bought a bowl at the Pilgrim Pottery store that's part of the campus. And the Mountain Brothers General Store is fine - everything there seems more expensive and it's a tourist must-visit: just be careful since a lot of the stuff is not local at all and more cute than necessary Overall I would go for the fried pies. We saw this store after a hike and I told my husband to "PULLL OVVERR!!" I love general stores! They always have great gift items and delicious local foods. Not a terrible place, but the amount of MAGA wear was a bit much. For a tourist area, that seems kinda tacky. I would think you'd want as many people as possible to come in, but I guess those are easy-selling items as well...so it's cheap consumerism for the owners here. This place is so unique and has so many interesting finds. Their coffee selection is quite large and smells delicious. The one negative for right now is that their bathrooms are out of order and have to use the port-o-potties outside. Otherwise, definitely worth checking out! read more

Stopped in here on our family Vacation. Multifamily going in to by toys and snacks for the kids. Walked around for about 10 minutes and a few the the kids found toys they were going to by, parents standing by. When this lady came walking by and very rudley said 'excuse me', we stepped out of the way and she walked over to one of our children, only four yeara old mind you, and snatched a toy right out of his hands. And went to walk away when i confronted her and very nicley but very sternly told her 'excuse me, we dont do that. You do NOT pur your hands on someone elses child'. She made the excuse she didnt want him to hit anyone with it. NO excuse lady. It was a helicopter propeller hand toy, so even if the child was waiving it around it wouldnt have hurt anyone. Which he was not, legit just holding it. Very livid, and walked out. Family followed. So needless to say they lost our buisness off 100+$. And customers for life. Very unacceptable! They business owners need to take a look at who they have working for them. And if they accept this behavior, shame on them. My child was not in the wrong, no grown woman should never act like this toward childen. Do not see how the are in a business and treat their customers like this. Will not be returning to this store again. Shame on them. read more
