First of all they have an excellent wine and spirits store at the entry that we spent a lot of money at. The market itself was as full service as you get anywhere else in the US. We've bought fried chicken that was delicious and prepared meats from their meat section. The produce section was well stocked. In fact I don't think there was anything that we needed that we didn't find, including wasabi and sake. For a small community like Sitka this market is a gem.

In this case, I absolutely make a better latte than Highliner Coffee. We came here as Sitka was the first stop of the cruise. The shop itself was not too big and has a drive through. There was a long line which made sense because everyone from the boat wanted coffee! The prices aren't listed on the board which was kinda weird. But when we placed our order, a 12 oz hot latte was just under $5. I think $4.75 if I remember correctly. The latte came out fairly quick, but the flavors were lackluster. It tasted like watery milk with a splash of espresso. It was quite disappointing. However, this might be the only place that does coffee in Sitka. If that's the case, my brother and I might move here and start our own coffee shop haha. Anyways, would I could back. Nope. But it was worth trying nonetheless.

For me, as I can happily partake in such hedonistic gluten, I had a special of turkey, pesto, avocado, and the ooziest, creamiest, most decadent cheese that, alas, I do not recall the name of. But the real superstar, nay, the Josephine Baker of pastries was a pistachio bun (?!?). This was heaven paired perfectly with strong coffee. I may add, it was the only good coffee I had in Alaska. One would expect this in Paris, in a small shop run by a husband and wife with an oven that has been lit for maybe a 100 years. But to stumble into this slice of heaven, accidentally. They had blueberry and coffee flavored. Our favorite was the regular salt and the spruce tip. The shop also has plates, containers for salts as well as cocktail mixes, glasses, etc. Other nonalcoholic options were available. We found a great selection of cheeses and one of our favorites was a bag of Fried Egg potato chips from Spain. OMG they were amazing. A great place for a gift for someone. They will also ship anywhere.

The soup itself is not too thick- and pairs well with the delicious bread it is served with. We also shared their prosciutto sandwhich - which was equally delightful and another "must try" when visiting. Lastly- its a good idea to try whatever desserts they have that day. We split their apple turnover and it did not disappoint! We wound up purchasing another to take back to the hotel. There is casual seating inside for perhaps 12 or so, while outside you can enjoy eating your food near the water. Ludvigs is truly a gem! From their delicious food to their warm and friendly service, I will definitely return the next time I am in Sitka. Thank you Ludvigs!
