Yuck! :/ so sad to say as I myself am an American living in Oslo Norway. I was so excited to finally go to this place and give it a shot but YUCKKKK! I got the "Eggs Benny" (Eggs Benedict) and it was soo gross. The hollandaise sauce was disgusting. Defiantly not made there, it tasted like it was likely in a bag frozen, and later heated. Also the eggs were way undercooked, I felt sick after eating them. The atmosphere was OK to look at but the benches were falling apart and springy - quite uncomfortable. Service... EH. We spilt some water and our waitress wouldn't give us any extra napkins even though we had asked. She simply gave us silverware and said there were napkins in with them (aka one small napkin each). Sunday morning American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon... What more could you want? Priced at 90 Kroner isn't bad by Oslo's standards at all and it certainly wasn't a small portion. (And having sampled many of these in the last couple of years I can say these were very nice and definitely authentic American style.) I saw a lot of people having burgers, sandwiches, etc and I definitely need to go there again to sample some more things from the menu! Free coffee refills is a bonus (29,- for a bottomless cup) and I was eyeing-up peoples milkshakes with a lot of jealousy. The booths were very cute and the bar was typical American style. However be prepared to wait as there was a big queue at 12pm on Sunday! read more

Been here several times before, for lunch meetings, or just working by my Mac (if you do, you´re never alone at Grunerløkka). Anyway, this Sunday afternoon, with just one hour to spend, with two fifteen-year old boys, the only glitch might be that it took two minutes before the first eye contact with busy personnel. From there; exceptionally relaxed and attentive service with a total lack of stress from any side. And a comment from my son, before the food had arrived: "This is a very good restaurant." Arrived 16.32, left 17.20, with the ones behind us in line still waiting for a table at the bar. I guess you'll find enough praise for the food itself, so I'll just finish off with a tip to really read the menu in full. Then just wait for the food to live up to the description. I ate the cheesesteak and buffalo wings. First of all presentation wise it was a mess, the cheesesteak didn't look like something that could be eaten because it was all over the place (maybe use a bigger bun instead of the hamburgerbun?) and it was really bland. I don't know how anyone can fuck up onions, peppers, steak and cheese but they did it (a little tip, there are things that are called spices. And one in particular called salt). The wings were really bland as well, and if it says buffalo wings on the menu it shouldn't be a choice to go spicy or bbq. Buffalo wings are not bbq-wings. And on top of that the spicy wings weren't even spicy or had that nice vinegary taste that mingles so well with the blue cheese. So if you are looking for a meal that doesn't really taste anything this is the place, but if you want to actually experience something good I'd take my hard earned cash to another place. It's really expensive as well and for a meal that is over 200kr I kind of expect something special. I like their decor though and service was okay. read more

I have to give this place another star. I finally went here for dinner with a friend from work and it wasn't too bad. We had to sit at the bar because even though there were plenty of open tables, we had to have made a reservation. I think it's weird to have to make a reservation for a diner, but alas, this is Norway not the US. I had the club sandwich and a glass of red wine (weird combo, I know), my friend had the mexican burger. I was quite happy to see a normal club sandwich and not some weird Norwegian take on a club sandwich that one finds at People's or similar restaurants. I actually really like the club sandwich at People's but I can't actually bring myself to call it a club sandwich, because its really not one, but I digress. The sandwich itself was good enough to be found at any typical American diner and if it were just for the sandwich, I would have probably given this place another star, but for the first time at this place, I had terrible service. The guy working behind the bar was slow, very slow. He had no interest in providing any type of service whatsoever. I would have been happy with bad service, but we literally had to wave our hands in front of his face to get his attention. He was just leaning against the counter, behind the bar staring off into space the whole time we were there. Every time we needed something, we had to wave our hands. He at least got us what we wanted eventually, but it took about 30 mins for us to get our food from the time we ordered it because he had forgotten to put in our order. As an American, I really, honestly, want to like this place, which is why I keep coming back. But every time, I am let down either by the food or the service. read more

I've been coming to this place for years now and sadly lately I've noticed a huge negative change. This was my spot for brunch at morning, pancakes at afternoon and burgers for dinner. I even brought a lot of friends and family. But the two last times it's been awful and I don't think I'm coming back. First of all the staff we used to know is gone, the new waitress made the ordering part confusing and rushed the entire thing making us feel that it was our fault, she even told us that we spoke to low and when we asked to keep the menu in case we wanted dessert after, she told us "NO", because they weren't enough for the entire place (we've kept the menu before in this place). She was just really rude. Not to mention that the egg on one of our plates had an eggshell and the bacon was burn. The last time I've been there it was my birthday and I always go this place on my birthday for a birthday breakfast, they forgot one plate and I had to wait 15 min until my husband and I could start eating together at the same time like in any normal place, the food was also different (I order always the same "the nighthawk brunch"), the beans came in a plastic little bowl, they used to come in a porcelain one, much nicer, the bread wasn't warm or tasty, it was really white and hard to eat, the bacon was super tiny and they also forgot the butter in the plate that was late. We ordered two pancakes as well but they only brought one and since we just wanted to be done with the place and go we didn't say anything. the sirup container was almost empty and the pancake was burn... And the water refill that they always had was an non-existent thing. As a couple that's been coming for long time we could notice the changing, is too bad that is not a good change. The rest of the menu is not worth it, but the weekend brunches are relatively authentic and even some of my fellow Americans here in Oslo have been there and said it is a good place. They could use real maple syrup, but that is just a minor detail. I wish I could write an amazing review on this place, that looked really cool from the outside. But that's just it, we only saw the outside of this place as we were felt like we weren't allowed in. There was a short line outside of the entrance which we waited in for 10 minutes or so. After 10 minutes had passed my boyfriend tried to enquire about the waiting time or ask if we could sit at the bar (where there were empty seats). However the employee ignored us for minutes, then told us to wait some more. When a Norwegian couple that were standing behind us in line asked about the time they were answered quickly, while still ignoring us. I'm not going to eat at a place where I'm being ignored so we left. Too bad as I was looking forward to eating a nice veggie burger. The place did look nice though, so I'll give it 2 stars as it's obviously a popular place. Advice: make a reservation or come very early, so you're not waiting outside in a line. read more

this is a nice place. they serve a good brunch.. not a great fan of salad with brunch. i think hashbrowns would be a better fit. good selection of food items. recommend the blue cheese and bacon burger or a club sandwich and drown it with strawberry milkshake. calories galore but you will be full and ready to hit the road. on the flip side, i think they do not have enough people waiting on tables although folks are pleasant. seen some really crowded days. you have to stand up literally and wave out to catch someone's attention, but overall not too bad. its not that you are heading there b4 a business meeting or a flight so can afford to not notice delays read more

Im a huge fan of breakfast, give me a time, date and place and ill eat breakfast with about anyone who invites me. So when this little gem of an invitation opened up I was more than happy to get up in the dark and make my way down :) Cozy atmosphere and actually really great service. It wasn't busy which was nice. The breakfast menu isn't as extensive as id hoped but it did fulfill my need for eggs and bacon. I have to say the bacon is dangerously delicious and I would go back to just have a plate of that...but on a whole the pancakes looked fluffy and the eggs Benedict as beautiful as ever. Maybe they could start carrying gluten free bread? I really would have loved to have tried that jam. I wasn't a huge fan of the salad with my eggs and bacon....not exactly a breakfast option , maybe hash browns would have been a more fitting choice. Overall I was happy with my roobios tea, the warm hearty meal and the wonderful company. Will be back to explore the menu. read more

A friend and I visiting from the US ate here for dinner the other night. I ordered the steak sandwich, he got the pulled pork sandwich. Overall, the food was very good and the service decently quick. I would've appreciated a little more meat on the sandwich (it wasn't very filling), but still delicious. I am an American living in Norway with my norwegian husband, and wanted to try to get a taste of some american comfort food in Oslo. It was our first time trying to eat at this diner, and I was quite excited to give them a try. When we got to the restaurant there was a big line just out the door, which was being held open. A group in front of us was tired of the wait and they left, leaving me holding the door. I was then berated by a very rude waitress who was neither norwegian or american, who kept saying "you can't be there!" in norwegian. Me and my husband were quite confused. She kept yelling that at me (As if yelling it 5 times would make me understand what she meant) and I stopped her and asked what she was talking about in english. She said that we need to close the door because it was cold (even though it was a very beautiful spring day). Not only that, but there was probably 15+ people ahead of us waiting for tables as well. Insanely rude, not service you would see in America at a diner. Stupid long wait. So disappointing. We left and went somewhere else, I would probably recommend you do the same. read more
