Microbrewery located near Grunerlokka. This brewpub has an underground cozy German-style with vaulted cellar modelled in a beer hall of long tables, copper beer kettles and old fire place. A must visit in the City of Oslo. Schouskjelleren, home to the city's biggest selection of draught beers, many of which are made on the premises. If you don't know your Porters from your IPAs, let the knowledgeable staff educate and guide you. Just a tip and use common sense that It can be difficult to get a table, especially in the weekends. If you prefer to savour your beer in peace, visit on a weekday afternoon. I tried the Schouskjelleren Uncle Knut 32 and Evil Twin Disco Beer 97. Which both were really good (great quality) but pricey. I also purchased souvenir glasses for me and my friends for only $2.00 a piece. This is definately a great hangout. Love the vibe, decor and atmosphere. Very warm and cozy. read more

This place is an absolute dungeon for sure, but it has the best tropical sour I've ever had in my life.... My husband liked his IPA. We were there at 8pm and the place was completely empty so we had it all to ourselves. It felt like a creepy catholic murder hole, but the beers are awesome and it's a completely different vibe than anywhere else. We will absolutely return. read more

This review is for the pub portion only, we didn't eat in the restaurant. This is a flat out cool place, you walk down underneath the building into a cavern with a bar and large fireplace and cozy booth seating. It's dim and lit here and there with candles, and very intimate. The bartender was so friendly! He inquired where we were from and pointed out some other American regulars which was cool. Now the beer! What I like is in addition to their own brews they have guest beers on tap too, this is especially neat for us as we are interested in tasting as many local Norwegian and European beers while we are here as possible. All the Shouskjelleren beers we tried were really good, and well balanced. Don't get too excited when you see the pint glasses, they are heavy and thick, you're still getting only a 12oz pour, but it's nice to have a "bigger" glass anyway ;). We will be back often, it's a fun cozy vibe, super friendly, and great beer. Not sure what more you could ask for in a brewery! read more

Another place I explored with my coworkers after work one Wednesday evening. This microbrewery is phenomenal for big groups meeting up to chat, as long as you are able to find a seat. The place is pretty hard to find as most of the places around Schauskjeller is named Schaus-something something, and since it is located in a cellar there is not much to indicate where it is. My coworker and I walked around for a good 20 minutes looking for it which actually was half the fun. (Ask for directions at the restaurant if you can't find it). The microbrewery has a great selection of beer, and the staff is really helpful which picking something of the menu if you don't know your beers.. It has a really cool ambiance, and the interior is amazing. Huge tables on each side that is easily shared with others or just a big party. There is no music, because it is in a cellar and it would just get to noisy if they did. Even without the music the place is pretty loud, but on weekdays it is not so full and definitely a lot easier to talk across the massive tables. It probably won't be my regular watering hole, however I still enjoyed it a lot! read more

I only managed to visit here once during my time in Oslo, but looking back I actually wish I had gone a whole lot more. It looks a bit run down and hidden from the outside, but when you do find the door it takes you in to what seems like an old cellar. It's very dark with lots of brick and wood, but not in a hipster way. More in an old castle dungeon type of way. I did not try the food I so can only speak in terms of the beer, but in that respect it was great. I think they had around ten beers on tap with something for all tastes. They actually brew beer on site as well which adds to the authenticity of the place as a proper bar for craft beer fans. The staff were really friendly and interested in where we were from and let us try beers until we found one we liked. Looking for a cool bar or searching out craft beer while on Oslo, on either front this is a good place to go. read more

I like good beer. Schouskjelleren has fantastic beer. This place makes me smile. With a huge sign and archway at the south end of Grunerløkka, you are beckoned to enter what looks like an awesome German style beer room. It is a little small, but you certainly feel welcome surrounded by brick walls and large wood benches. The beers there aren't terribly expensive compared to other restaurants, and I definitely recommend the Cannonball. read more

5 stars for the beer, 5 stars for the space! Every single beer we've tried here was fantastic. Saison, single hop pale and Belgian wit are my personal favorites. Pair that with a seat under the vaulted brick ceiling by the huge fireplace, and you've got yourself a great time on a cold wet winter day. Prices here are reasonable for Oslo and half-pints are available. Yay! The entrance is hard to find - go through the arc with the Schouss sign over it, and look for a dark wood door to your right. read more

A great place with good atmosphere. Really reminds me of a German beer cellar, and that's a big plus. A wide selection of craft beers, brewed on location. A cosy fireplace and flickering candles set the mood for an intimate evening out on the town. Large wooden tables and plush leather seats are perfect for large groups. We had a tough time finding the brewery since the address represents an entire block. Once we got there, at 3pm on a Friday, it was empty, but awesome. The cellar-style beer hall is rustic and mysterious. The super nice bartender gave us a quick tour of the brewery and let us poke around for a while as we enjoyed some delicious reasonably-priced* beer. They have impressive variety with everything from stouts to white beer to IPAs, and good experimental stuff. Bonus points if you can say the word "mikrobryggeriøl" correctly. *for Oslo read more

Great own beers in this really old looking basement bar. The acoustics are such that they can't play any music since it would echo to much, in any case it's really noisy when the place is full. Very fitting atmosphere. read more

Exceptional pub, great beer, friendly staff. This place is a must see when in Oslo. It's built in the 1800s underground, with an arched brick ceiling. It feels like a place from the Middle Ages. More importantly the beer is excellent. We had a trippel, milk stout l, and hefe combo. All were outstanding. Plus the server was friendly, and took the time to explain the history of the building and the brewery. It's a great place. read more

Stopped in for a couple beers while passing through Oslo on my honeymoon. The atmosphere was perfect for a foggy, cold Oslo evening. Head downstairs to the taproom, which used to be the beer cellar for the original Schous Brewery that occupied almost the entire block, and you're created by a curved brick room and a nice, big fireplace. When we settled up to the bar to get a beer, the attendant was happy to help and make suggestions, offering several samples to help us find something we liked. The beers we had, a couple IPAs and Pale Ales, were good and matched the quality of the atmosphere, which is always nice but sometimes hard to find at breweries. Stop in if you're in Oslo and grab a beer. read more

I tried only their home breweries, IPA and Pale Ale, and both of them were impressive. Other than tabs, they also offer an extensive variety of bottled beers. I love the place and the atmosphere.
