I went to go visit my brother in Oslo while he was studying abroad and we were looking for places to eat. I will admit that a burger in Norway isn't my first choice since I love to be adventurous, but food in Oslo is pretty expensive compared to what I'm used to! He raved about this place and said he takes all his friends there when they visit, so we decided to just try it out anyway. My first impression was that I loved the design. The interior, logo, menu, etc. we're cute and fun, and being a graphic designer, I appreciate that stuff. I don't regret it because Illegal Burger was SO GOOD. The burger was delicious and the fries are a must have! They were wedges and one of the best I've had! The dipping sauce was amaaaazing too. I would definitely go here if you're in Oslo! So good!

Cool colours used for the interior

I am glad I visited illegal burger! Had heard a lot about it and it was indeed worth a visit! First of all it is fast food. So don't have expectations of a fancy type of burger. However it is a fancy fast food place, if you can say so! For example: the burgers come out in paper wrap but however on a real plate. This is the kind of balance this place has which I love as a concept!! The food was great! I had number 7 and it was not too spicy. The fries come with aioli which I love and are delicious as well. The meat is left juicy and the burger is quite balanced as a taste. The food was enough for me, although in the beginning it didn't seem like much. The beer comes from Mikeller in Denmark! Felt like home and i can't brag about mikeller in an Oslo food place's page but it was indeed really good and worth trying!! The interior and concept I loved!! You order on the counter and you wait in a line to get seated. So many people on a Tuesday evening! But luckily as it is a fast food restaurant it is not really a place to spend all your evening at. It's more like eat and leave concept. Which seemed to work quite well as the line never got bigger than 2 tables. So remember the idea is to have a good burger and not a cosy night. If you keep that in mind I am sure you will be satisfied with this choice. Extra points for service too! Generally: I am happy customer!

Honestly, this was a pretty disappointing experience after reading all of these amazing reviews. I suppose that relative to other burger places in Oslo, perhaps illegal burger is an exotic and interesting option. However, as far a burger quality is concerned, I would not say that illegal burger is necessarily great. More like mediocre. I ordered the Illegal Special, which had avocado and chorizo in addition to tomatoes and lettuce. I suspect that the folks in Oslo weren't actually referencing the whole immigration situation in the Southwest US when they named the place (given the 5000 mile difference) but it could be interpreted that way for better or worse. Regardless, the chorizo was chewy and there were not nearly enough avocados or salsa-like flavor to evoke a Latin America type of experience with the burger. The potets were fine but not special in any way.

Hot Mama Deluxe (Bacon,Cheddar+, BBQ S, Salad,Tomatoes, Onions(Løk), Guacamole, Jalapeños, Mustard) +Kartoffelecken with SeaSalt

I ate the HotMamaDeluxe with extra Cheddar, Wedges with Sea-Salt and a Ginger beer. the Burger: Meat was ok, not the bomb but ok. I prefer a lot more spice with the ground beef but it may be some cultural thing to not overly spice up the food here. Anyways... they grill it over coals and when you come into the store you can enjoy the nice bbq-smell. too much guacamole for my taste and somehow I was missing some hot sauce too it but thats just my taste. BBQ Sauce was a little too mild and didn't come out too much I didn't like the 'cut the salad in little strips like Mcdo. does... it falls off the burger easier. but salad is salad, jus sayin! Cheese was good, had cheddar on it. Great cheese!!! Wedges were good, I like the sea-salt too! All in all: Burger is OK but it doesn't really give you that WOW-experience. It lacked a little spice. Too neutral for my taste. But go paint ur own picture! Great Vibe, warm and welcoming although the store is small they had good music (hip-hop, rnb and soul... I had the impression they were completely playing all my fav music) When you are there you have to try the ginger beer. I tried it for the first time and I really like it. Try it! I payed 242Kr=28€(that time) for all that, way to expensive for my german wallet but yea.... that again is Oslo. #RapeYourWalletPrices on EVERTHING you see!

    Great burger, VERY fizzy beer

Inconspicuous from the street and (if I am completely honest), pretty soul-less looking from the inside with an easy wipe clean floor and linoleum tables that remind my of a by-gone time at McDonalds. Don't let this fool you into thinking you are about to get a plastic bun with an even more plasticy burger, this place serves one of the best burgers I have ever eaten! It is a sizeable and hearty meal on its own, add to the mix a side of chips and aioli and you have a recipe for a full stomach and an elated palate. NB, an important point for those of you that love a beer with your burger: they serve 2 different beers there, a local and a basic one (Carlsberg I think)...if you are tempted to go local (as I was), be ready for the fizziest experience of your life. I like my beer, I pride myself on having a quick decent when it comes to having a beer with a meal...I could not finish this beer, it caused me so much gas it was painful and it took over 40 minutes to get to where I left it, even though i was actually trying really hard to finish it. Nice taste, just wish they (the brewer, not Illegal Burger) could tone down the bubbles a bit. Beer issues aside, you are guaranteed a fantastic burger in a pretty nondescript room that sits above a rather noisy nightclub....I like it, I like it a lot :)

Decent burger, but nothing special. I stopped by with a few friends, and I split the hot mama deluxe and the illegal special with a friend. It was fairly tasty, but I thought the meat wasn't that juicy or flavorful. I didn't find the toppings to be that value-adding either; I didn't think the guacamole added enough different texture or flavor, while the chorizo in the Illegal Special gave it a bit of an interesting kick, but probably something I could have done without. It's not a bad meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come eat a burger here.

    Folks enjoying the great chow!

Yep, it rocked. Just like everyone said it would. My true love & I had the Hot Mamma Deluxe and the Blue Cheese burgers. Of course we also had the potato wedges & aioli sauce as well. All totally delicious. If I went back, I would ask for a few more jalapeños on my burger, but I like it extra zippy. With regards to the beer, some other illustrious Yelpers did not enjoy the local brew. We each had a pint of the light Frydenlund, and it was a perfect accompaniment to the burgers. We did not find it unpleasant at all. Everything was super yum!

Lived up to the hype! Got the Illegal Special & got one patty which was more than enough. I believe the secret is the way they grill & season the meat-charcoal fire giving it a perfect smoked taste. My burger was cooked a perfect medium as promised. Now the place is smaller & it is a fast food joint & not sure if this is the best burger in Oslo but has to be one of the best!

The chicken is breed the old fashion way- Breath of fresh air, fresh oat, wheat and corn and this combination makes the meat so juicy and tender. The burger itself is boneless (they remove bones), coleslaw, bbq sauce and a good dressing on top of a amazingly good bun. The bun actually makes the whole difference. It's so moist and tasty when you let the burger sit for a minute(if you got the patience to wait), it just suck up all of the good dressing and bbq sauce and that combined with the juicy chicken just makes it even better. I tend to go for the burger whenever I'm down at the local football pub watching a game and I combine this meal with a Brooklyn Lager. Good taste combined. The service is also great. No mocking around. Quick and done. Since they started up their local shoppe at Mathallen, the price has risen from a comfortable 60NOK to 90NOK. I personally think that's a little steep but I can't resist it. It's worth it. They also got a good chicken sandwich, but I've never eaten it. (Never change a winning team) but I've heard it's also very good. It's not only burgers and sandwiches at Stangeriet, they also sell wings, thighs and whole chickens. It's definitely worth a try and a chicken for sunday supper is a winner.

First visit to this place and I really like it I can say you that much already now. So lets start with the exterior, it all looks like a cinema or a small venue for concerts which is also is and a bit luxurious in the put side. When you get in you get a hipster vibe, modern, good food, rustic and focus on meat. Very dark interior which I can have a hard time to like often but not this time because the make their concept to 110% without any compromises which I really like. The open kitchen where you can see how they make your food over the open wood fire just makes it great. And this place is a restaurant that really have focus on the meat and it's very obvious that it is that way. I had the burger of the day which probably is the most innovative burger I ever tasted anywhere in the world. I was well composed and with Asian taste influences and probably the best meat I've eaten in a burger, might be of all time or might be just in Norway. Not sure about that yet. If you like fires they are perfectly crispy and just perfect inside as well but I think they would be even better without the Parmesan cheese and the spices. But still top notch fries. If you like burgers or meat at think this is a must visit place. I will go here again just to try out the meat very soon I hope. However, I have nothing bad to say about this place and I really want to review it with top review but I just can't. I can not say what it s but there is something missing that I cant pinpoint so I will rank it with 4 out of 5 points as close to 5 points as it possible gets and I will more than recommend this place.

We waited for about 20 minutes, and the waiters seemed to be quite efficient in securing a rapid turnover. Both of the two waiters that tended to our table were very nice, professional and attentive - on opening a bottle of prosecco for us (we were celenrating ;), one of the waiters managed to spill a small piece of cork in the glass, but he promptly went to fetch another, and came back with a full glass. We chose the most popular burgers, the Boss and the Umami, along with fries, truffle fries, aioli and chili mayo. The burgers had enough different components to be interesting, but yet not so much that they could not be eaten the proper way (that is - with your hands, not using cutlery). The meat was grilled and succulent, and the flavours were very well combined. We were served ketchup, mustard and tarragon mayo on the side, so that each could adjust the amount of sauce to taste (I like a lot of sauce). If I had to criticise the burgers at all, I would say that I would prefer a slightly thicker patty that was a bit less well done. I also like fresh veg on my burger (which my burger did not have), but they have a variety with lettuce and tomato on the menu, so I could have chosrn that one. The fries, however, are beyond any criticism. They were perfectly crisp and fatty, well salted, sufficiently thick-cut, and served with your selection of sauce (which for us was aioli and chili mayo). The truffle fries had a subtle, but sufficient taste of truffle, and were sprinkled with fresh parsley. After the burgers and fries, we decided to share the two desserts on the menu along with a chocolate shake (they use Ben & Jerrys ice cream). The chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, candied walnuts and raspberry mousse definitely stole the show with its decadent intense chololatey flavour. The deconstructed berry crumble with lemon curd was good, but there was no taste of the advertised cardamom in the crumble, and it was simply not as exciting as the chocolate cake. We left feeling extremely full, but very happy and satisfied with our meal. I'm happy that Majorstuen has finally got its own "hip burger joint", and hope that Kverneriet stays for a long time!

Colonel Mustard, named after the one who did it in the kitchen (kinky), is a cool little restaurant and bar near Alexander Kiellands plass bus stop. When you walk inside, you feel like you are among friends. The walls and the chairs give off a warm feeling, and the clientele is very relaxed. One confusing thing is that there is a variety of seating styles for such a small space - bar stools, bar tables, tables with booths, tables with chairs, tables with couches, long lunch tables, and so on. My friend asked me where I wanted us to sit, and I was overwhelmed by the choices. Service was quick and attentive without being obtrusive. My friend and I ordered the burgers, but I am still not used to the Oslo concept of throwing a ton of toppings on a burger and then eating it with a knife and fork. The server was patient with my need to first translate the toppings one by one, and then eliminate the ones I didn't want. The final product was juicy and tasty. Oh, and this place isn't a beer garden, but it had more than two taps - which was awesome. I haven't had Guinness on tap in over a month, it was heavenly. There are four other non-canoe sex draft options as well. Prices are in the range that you would see in other similar places. If you like board games, there are tons of them around and people seemed to be playing happily. This is also a great place for good conversation and hanging out.
