Huge multi floor restaurant that was one of the few restaurants open in the heart of Oslo during New Year. We didn't make any reservations ahead of time and were seated immediately. You have your choice of ordering via QR code, and btw they want your email address and phone number, or trudging to the bar, waiting as the person before you orders several pizzas and then has her credit card denied. Our first order, at said bar, was completely screwed up. They did try to make it up to us almost an hour later by comping the entrees. This is a unique place with multiple levels including amazing outdoor seating in one of the most scenic areas as well as quiet indoor dining. We tried the salmon soup, chevre salad which had grilled cheese and lingonberries in it, and grilled meat platter for 2 which has some of everything almost as was a true smogasboard experience for us to share. It was way more food than we could eat but we got to try some of the Norwegian classics and it was definitely worth a stop here for a lunch or dinner. We learned that this restaurant is a chain with locations in other areas of the country as well so it may be something to try there as well assuming consistency with the quality of your meal. Overall I can definitely recommend Egons. There was a large menu of food and drinks with much more to try here! read more

Giving this place four stars for beer and location. We stopped off for a beer after a hot summer day walking around Oslo. The sun was shining, we had a nice light Pilsner and enjoyed ourselves. The location has outdoor seating which is perfect for a warm day and people watching. I can't speak to the food since we did not have any. I would recommend just as a cool place to take a break, watch the nearby fountain and park, and enjoy a beer from oldest brewery in Norway. read more

We used Yelp to find this restaurant our first night in Norway, as we knew nothing about where to find a good place to eat. It was close to where we were walking on a very cold night, so we jumped at it. The interior is very cozy and warmly decorated. The service was all wonderful and being Norway, everyone spoke perfect english. The food was great, with the fish being perfect and my wife's burger being very good. The local beers are good, but, if you are travelling in Norway, you will soon learn that all alcohol i very expensive. I would recomend this restaurant to any weary traveller looking to rest and warm up. read more

Here's how it works: Find a table, remember your table number, order your food with the cashier on the first floor, give them your table number, pay, wait for your food, try to consume the edible parts on your plate. Egon Karl Johan is kind of sad. The pizza buffet is not worth the calories. Yes, I know everything is expensive, and Egon Karl Johan is somewhat reasonably priced. That being said, do NOT for the love of food get the pizza buffet. Instead, take that Kroner and apply it to an actual entree on the menu or do yourself one better and go elsewhere. The pizza buffet is depressing. I've had my share of Pizza Hut pizza buffets in my younger days. Egon Karl Johan pizza dough is bland and on par or worse than Domino's. The toppings are thinly laid. The selection is small. The salad is almost inedible. If you do not heed my advice and you must get the pizza buffet, the taco pizza is slightly edible. read more

This was alright. The food was hot, well-prepared and on time. I'd recommend the duck with fries, and the cheeseburger. This place is eclectic, they'll give you what you're in the mood for: Mexican, American, Italian, Seafood; OR all at the same time if you wish. read more

We were looking for a good place to eat for dinner and we decided to dine here. It was my first night in Oslo. There were lots of restaurants nearby in central station. Once we came, we got seated right away by an attractive blonde girl, and was given the menu. I was looking at the restaurant decor and it was nice and casual. I like the dimly-lit setting. FYI- food and drinks must be ordered in the bar, their waitress don't take orders at your table. Also, the average tab per meal are between $25 and up. I ordered the salmon entree with potatoes. It was really fresh and had plenty of flavor but could use a little bit more salt and pepper. Potatoes and veggies were on point and cooked right, However, salad dressing taste weird. Overall, I was satisfied with my meal and customer service was good. We then paid by visa and rolled out right after. I would say Egon deserves a thumbs up. read more

DONT EAT HERE! This place is the worst! It doesn't even deserve the one star I gave it. I only came out of late night desperation! Unclean place. Extremely overpriced and horrible food. You're better off going to McDonalds, or the 24hr deli just up the road. read more

We like Egon. The restaurant layout and ambience is nice and relaxing. The menu is varied so everyone can find something. Tonight it was the pork (from Norway) which was juicy and not overly seasoned. The potatoes (small round roasted) are an excellent side. Homemade lasagna was good. Not huge and not too much cheese. I have had some really good lasagna. This may not be that caliber but if you need lasagna it should do. The chicken quesadilla was huge and thick. Salsa decently spicy. Service fast and friendly. For a late dinner, it was nice. And I now love pear cider! read more

A big chain type restaurant by the Central Station. It's ok and reasonably priced for Norway, where everything is expensive. The ordering process is a bit of a nightmare, go to the bar, where you can queue for ages, order your food and drinks, don't forget your table number etc etc. The food comes reasonably quickly and is reasonably ok. Good for a filler, but nothing to write home about. read more

This particular Egon has the absolute worst service!! It took almost 1.5 hours to get the burger I ordered. When I went to check on my order the first time, the staff was unbelievably rude. The second time I checked they told me they got my table wrong and the burger was now cold and had to be remade. The same rude and arrogant waiter came back at the end to take my plate, no apology just more attitude. Unbelievable. read more
