Yelp says they close at 11pm. We just showed up at 6:20pm and we're told that the kitchen closed at 6 pm.k

The Salmon - Creamy salmon soup (265 krone)

The Salmon was another seafood restaurant on our list of places to eat while in Oslo…read more It was located in Aker Brygge which was a newer and expensive neighborhood. There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay. If you're curious about salmon farming in Norway then check out the exhibit at the other end of the restaurant.

The Salmon does an excellent job of showcasing the fresh and wonderful quality of salmon in many different dishes. The tasting plate was one of the best dishes they had. There were three different pieces of salmon with different accompaniment. I don't remember the exact cuts, but one was Lox, and the other was a cold smoke. My guest got a ginger salmon salad she loved. We also got the torched salmon nigiri to taste. The hype is real! This is definitely a must try! They get extremely busy, so a reservation is a must! They had indoor and outdoor seating with a heated patio (it was a bit chilly when we were there).

We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.

Disappointing to me they only serve Pepsi products - darn - had to go with a beer. Table next to me ordered the shellfish platter and it looked amazing. This is usually a clear sign that something is amiss. We were seated in a long table section and our menu had been pre-ordered ahead of time. We could either order the salmon or the game stew. The meal included a beer or wine as well. When one person in our group asked for a simple cup of hot water, the server flatly refused and said it wasn't part of the agreed upon menu. Another person asked if she could change her dessert because she was a diabetic. Again, we got a complete refusal to be accommodating. The food was decent, but nothing worth putting up with cold, unhelpful, and indifferent service for. I can see why the locals don't eat here.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a nice young lady and asked her for a table for 5. She said, hold on and that she would be right back. Less than 30 seconds later, a skinny man in all black with a thin mustache comes up to the front. He looks at me, no greeting, no smile, and then with this look and a roll of his head of what do you want, said, "yes?" I told him, the other female was already helping us. He then said, what do you want. I proceeded to tell him we were wanting a table for 5. He then said, we have no table when clearly there were tables open and no one else waiting. My husband then said, well she told us to wait. He replies with, "She is a nobody here. Just a waitress. She knows nothing. We cannot seat you." We travel to a foreign country only to be met with racism! Asian group walks in and automatically turns us away. Thankfully this was our only bad experience in Norway. All I have to say to that man is you did us a favor because we ended up at Lofoten and had the best meal and service ever! Spent over a $1,000 on our bill and didn't care. Once seated several people came to assist us and it wasn't because of the language barrier each one of them spoke English fluently. We placed our order, got our food, ate it was full but not necessarily satisfied. There was one server she was pretty decent but the rest of the experience was mediocre. The only standout were the scallops, perfectly cooked and delicious. Look at the pictures because I really don't have the energy to discuss my average meal! Would I go back or suggest this restaurant? NOPE!

We visited the museums at Bygdoy then decided to go there for dinner. Finding the shuttle boat pier was challenging. Google map led us to a residential area then pointed us to someone's back yard. We were lucky to ran i to some locals who were heading to the pier so we followed them. It turned out the entrance road leading ti the pier has a sign as private property, I would never turned into that road on my own. The shuttle only takes 11 people, we were lucky to get the last 3 seats. But I suspect it would run continuously back and forth, not the 30 minutes advertised. The info on the websites are not necessarily correct. We put our names in for a table for dinner, some of the locals are there only for drinks. Food is good, we got the Greenland shrimps, fish & chips, burger with bacon, and a shrimp toast. Since it was the opening date some of the items are not available yet. Seatings are outdoor, they offer blankets in case you get cold. On the way back, the shuttle has already had 8 people, but it came back right away for us.

I wanted to like this place more-its got a great setting on a little island surrounded by views of…read morethe water and it takes a bit of effort to get there. You either can take a bus ($4) or what we did is take the museum ferry ($6) to stop 2-then walk about 15 minutes (but Google is messed up at the last part). Walk down a gravel road that has a barrier arm across, get on the little boat ($5) that takes you across to the tiny island (takes maybe 30 seconds), walk 5 minutes to the restaurant and put in you name (they don't take reservations and by definition you are only going there to eat outside of a beautiful day so lots of people have the same thoughts). I'd definitely go there to sit on the bar section of the patio and enjoy a glass of wine or two. We arrived pretty early -before 6 on a Sunday-so only waited like 20 minutes. The menu is really limited and as this is a seasonal restaurant-totally untrained staff. There were about 10 young servers and we probably interacted with 7 different ones-2 tried to take our order, different ones brought food, 1 didn't bring wine we ordered, another never brought the dessert we ordered after 20+ minute wait, and we eventually flagged down the only non-teenager and got our bill. Now I'm not trying to complain and everyone needs to start out somewhere but what was apparent is that there is absolutely no system whatsoever about who does what or who handles what-and it clearly wasn't a team service concept-just disorganized chaos. My wife's crab salad was decent as was my fish and chips but something we ate totally disagreed with us the next day. Can't recommend

We waited for about 20 minutes, and the waiters seemed to be quite efficient in securing a rapid turnover. Both of the two waiters that tended to our table were very nice, professional and attentive - on opening a bottle of prosecco for us (we were celenrating ;), one of the waiters managed to spill a small piece of cork in the glass, but he promptly went to fetch another, and came back with a full glass. We chose the most popular burgers, the Boss and the Umami, along with fries, truffle fries, aioli and chili mayo. The burgers had enough different components to be interesting, but yet not so much that they could not be eaten the proper way (that is - with your hands, not using cutlery). The meat was grilled and succulent, and the flavours were very well combined. We were served ketchup, mustard and tarragon mayo on the side, so that each could adjust the amount of sauce to taste (I like a lot of sauce). If I had to criticise the burgers at all, I would say that I would prefer a slightly thicker patty that was a bit less well done. I also like fresh veg on my burger (which my burger did not have), but they have a variety with lettuce and tomato on the menu, so I could have chosrn that one. The fries, however, are beyond any criticism. They were perfectly crisp and fatty, well salted, sufficiently thick-cut, and served with your selection of sauce (which for us was aioli and chili mayo). The truffle fries had a subtle, but sufficient taste of truffle, and were sprinkled with fresh parsley. After the burgers and fries, we decided to share the two desserts on the menu along with a chocolate shake (they use Ben & Jerrys ice cream). The chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, candied walnuts and raspberry mousse definitely stole the show with its decadent intense chololatey flavour. The deconstructed berry crumble with lemon curd was good, but there was no taste of the advertised cardamom in the crumble, and it was simply not as exciting as the chocolate cake. We left feeling extremely full, but very happy and satisfied with our meal. I'm happy that Majorstuen has finally got its own "hip burger joint", and hope that Kverneriet stays for a long time!
