One of my favorite dining experiences. Taking the very brief boat ride was so charming. Everything about this place was simply magical. We dined on a hot summer evening. The wait staff were so friendly and attentive and seemed very happy to be working there. Our son swam in the little beach nearby while the other kids explored. The food to just perfect, all of it and beautifully presented. There are many charming rooms to rent out for parties. Stunning!! Thank you

This is a place that reminded me a bit of home (which is Greece). Very positive surprise in Oslo! Lille Herbern is a very nice restaurant on a small island close to bygdøy. It's a bit tricky to find if you haven't been there before. You basically take the last street to the right before arriving to the Viking museum. When you arrive to the water there is a little boat that takes you to the island for 30 nok. The ride takes 2 mins probably as it is very close. When you arrive to the island it's just amazing! There is a little bar and a restaurant with two cuisines, meat and fish. The bar had some reggae music and had a super nice atmosphere. You sit next to the water and when it's sunny it has this vacation feeling to it. The food and service was really good. I had the fish and chips and it was really tasty. It was a bit more gourmet than plain fish and chips and I loved it. Be prepared for some waiting time if it's weekend and good weather though! Enjoy this little hidden gem!

The Salmon was another seafood restaurant on our list of places to eat while in Oslo…read more It was located in Aker Brygge which was a newer and expensive neighborhood. There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay. If you're curious about salmon farming in Norway then check out the exhibit at the other end of the restaurant.

The Salmon does an excellent job of showcasing the fresh and wonderful quality of salmon in many different dishes. The tasting plate was one of the best dishes they had. There were three different pieces of salmon with different accompaniment. I don't remember the exact cuts, but one was Lox, and the other was a cold smoke. My guest got a ginger salmon salad she loved. We also got the torched salmon nigiri to taste. The hype is real! This is definitely a must try! They get extremely busy, so a reservation is a must! They had indoor and outdoor seating with a heated patio (it was a bit chilly when we were there).

We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.

The outside seatings were very full. We had fish and chips, creamy fish soup, and the langoustine special. All are very good, especially the fish soup with salmon and mussels. Fish & Chips is the famous dish there. The langoustine plate came with 2 langoustines halved and some salad. , Service was fine, it was busy we were told the food could take up to 30 minutes to come out but it came sooner.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a nice young lady and asked her for a table for 5. She said, hold on and that she would be right back. Less than 30 seconds later, a skinny man in all black with a thin mustache comes up to the front. He looks at me, no greeting, no smile, and then with this look and a roll of his head of what do you want, said, "yes?" I told him, the other female was already helping us. He then said, what do you want. I proceeded to tell him we were wanting a table for 5. He then said, we have no table when clearly there were tables open and no one else waiting. My husband then said, well she told us to wait. He replies with, "She is a nobody here. Just a waitress. She knows nothing. We cannot seat you." We travel to a foreign country only to be met with racism! Asian group walks in and automatically turns us away. Thankfully this was our only bad experience in Norway. All I have to say to that man is you did us a favor because we ended up at Lofoten and had the best meal and service ever! Spent over a $1,000 on our bill and didn't care. Everything here was simply, just fair or special, not good and not great considering it's reputation and price. Upon our arrival the host stand seem to be the beginning of confusion and poor service. It's one of those restaurants with all hands on deck causes too many hands in the pot! Once seated several people came to assist us and it wasn't because of the language barrier each one of them spoke English fluently. We placed our order, got our food, ate it was full but not necessarily satisfied. There was one server she was pretty decent but the rest of the experience was mediocre. The only standout were the scallops, perfectly cooked and delicious. Look at the pictures because I really don't have the energy to discuss my average meal! Would I go back or suggest this restaurant? NOPE!
