I honestly don't know why I came to get my nails done. I was trying to locate a nail salon in the…read morearea since I am new and this place just wasn't it. I called beforehand to make an appointment. Once I arrived, the salon was empty with only the employees. The employees were kind towards me, however, the man who performed my pedicure did not understand me or did he speak English. I had to wait until the lady who did my manicure was available which was a hit and miss. The man would point at the mani and pedi booklet to indicate that I needed to choose quickly. I couldn't choose quickly because they had a lot of options and I wasn't given any time as I was rushed. The lady rushed me to choose the mani that I was interested in. I ended up choosing up the cheapest option. I told both individuals that I wasn't interested in hot stones for medical reasons. Both the man and the lady begged me to get hot stones and even said that hot stones was very good and relaxing. I get that, but for medical reasons I am not going to the hospital over hot stones and pay a hefty medical bill because of them. I told them my reasons and yet was still begged to get them for an additional cost. I chose my nail polish that I wanted and the lady who served me immediately told me no that I couldn't choose that. She asked me to choose another color. I chose another color then the color that I chose wasn't something that they had used before and I asked if I was sure that I liked the color. I told her that I was sure since she was adamant that I couldn't choose the color that I initially wanted. She asked me again if I was sure. I told her yes, then she opened the color, applied it to my toenail and fingernails. After, she applied it, she asked for a third time if I was sure as she cannot reverse the process of applying. I told her yes. That crap was very annoying her asking me several times if I was sure and not allowing me, the paying customer to choose the initial color, but yet having to settle for a secondary color. Another thing that pissed me off was that I brought a picture in for her to match. This lady gave me a hard time it was like pulling teeth to get her to match the picture that I wanted. She told me that she would charge me $100 additional on top of the color for the special look which was utterly ridiculous. She would charge me for all 10 fingers. For a basic color, acrylic nails, this basic job cost me $139. I felt like it was a rip off. Next time, I am not going to a nail salon, but will be buying the glue on nails from HEB. The nails that I got at this salon didn't even last 2 months like how they last at Bella Nails that I used to go to in Pearland, TX before I moved to the area. They did an okay job, but the glue on nails would have looked better. Additionally, I did not care for hearing children play and scream while I was trying to have a relaxing time at this salon. They had their children out on the floor yelling and talking loudly. I cannot enjoy my time getting my nails done being around children that just ruins the mood for me. I won't be back and recommending them to anyone.

I was excited to try Lumos since it's a new salon, but unfortunately I left very disappointed with…read moremy shellac manicure. I specifically choose shellac/gel manicures because my natural nails are extremely thin and weak. Lately, I have only had shellac manicures in the surrounding nail salons, because a shellac manicure provides enough structure and protection to help prevent my nails from bending and breaking. After my appointment at Lumos, my nails felt almost exactly as if I had regular nail polish on them. There was no noticeable thickness, strength, or protection. My nails felt paper-thin and vulnerable to breaking almost immediately. While the manicure looked fine at first, it did not provide the durability and reinforcement I expect from a shellac service. What was most disappointing was my attempt to resolve the issue the next day of service with the salon. I explained my concerns and asked whether an additional layer could be added to provide more structure. Instead of working toward a solution, I felt my concerns were dismissed. I was told that their shellac is essentially like any other polish, and when I continued asking questions, the conversation became defensive rather than helpful. I understand that shellac does not actually strengthen the natural nail itself. However, a properly applied shellac or gel manicure should create a protective coating that adds structure and helps thin nails resist bending and breakage. In my experience, the shellac application at Lumos was noticeably thinner than those I have received at other salons in the area. The difference was significant enough that it felt more like regular polish than a shellac manicure. Perhaps management could benefit from evaluating how other local salons perform shellac services and the level of protection and structure those manicures typically provide. What made this especially frustrating was that the price was comparable to other salons where the shellac manicure leaves my nails feeling substantially stronger and more protected, almost like a lightweight acrylic overlay. I decided to try Lumos because I wanted to support a new local business, but I regret not returning to my usual salon. Based on my experience, I would not choose this salon again for shellac manicures. Update after Owner's response: Thank you for your response. I understand the distinction between Shellac, BIAB, and Builder Gel. My review was never intended to suggest that Shellac and Builder Gel are the same service. My concern was simply that the Shellac manicure I received at Lumos felt significantly thinner and less protective than Shellac manicures I have received at numerous other salons over the years. As someone with naturally thin and weak nails, I specifically rely on Shellac because it typically provides enough coating and structure to help prevent bending and breakage. This particular manicure did not provide that experience. While you state that you wanted to explain the differences between services, my experience during our conversation was that my concerns were being dismissed rather than addressed. I returned because I was unhappy with the result and was hoping we could find a reasonable solution. Instead, I left feeling that the issue was being explained away. I fully respect that every salon may have its own techniques and standards. However, customers also have the right to share their experiences and compare them to services they have received elsewhere. My review reflects my honest experience as a paying customer. I genuinely wish Lumos success as a new business. Unfortunately, the service I received did not meet my expectations, and I stand by my review.
