I was excited to try Lumos since it's a new salon, but unfortunately I left very disappointed with my shellac manicure. I specifically choose shellac/gel manicures because my natural nails are extremely thin and weak. Lately, I have only had shellac manicures in the surrounding nail salons, because a shellac manicure provides enough structure and protection to help prevent my nails from bending and breaking. After my appointment at Lumos, my nails felt almost exactly as if I had regular nail polish on them. There was no noticeable thickness, strength, or protection. My nails felt paper-thin and vulnerable to breaking almost immediately. While the manicure looked fine at first, it did not provide the durability and reinforcement I expect from a shellac service. What was most disappointing was my attempt to resolve the issue the next day of service with the salon. I explained my concerns and asked whether an additional layer could be added to provide more structure. Instead of working toward a solution, I felt my concerns were dismissed. I was told that their shellac is essentially like any other polish, and when I continued asking questions, the conversation became defensive rather than helpful. I understand that shellac does not actually strengthen the natural nail itself. However, a properly applied shellac or gel manicure should create a protective coating that adds structure and helps thin nails resist bending and breakage. In my experience, the shellac application at Lumos was noticeably thinner than those I have received at other salons in the area. The difference was significant enough that it felt more like regular polish than a shellac manicure. Perhaps management could benefit from evaluating how other local salons perform shellac services and the level of protection and structure those manicures typically provide. What made this especially frustrating was that the price was comparable to other salons where the shellac manicure leaves my nails feeling substantially stronger and more protected, almost like a lightweight acrylic overlay. I decided to try Lumos because I wanted to support a new local business, but I regret not returning to my usual salon. Based on my experience, I would not choose this salon again for shellac manicures. Update after Owner's response: Thank you for your response. I understand the distinction between Shellac, BIAB, and Builder Gel. My review was never intended to suggest that Shellac and Builder Gel are the same service. My concern was simply that the Shellac manicure I received at Lumos felt significantly thinner and less protective than Shellac manicures I have received at numerous other salons over the years. As someone with naturally thin and weak nails, I specifically rely on Shellac because it typically provides enough coating and structure to help prevent bending and breakage. This particular manicure did not provide that experience. While you state that you wanted to explain the differences between services, my experience during our conversation was that my concerns were being dismissed rather than addressed. I returned because I was unhappy with the result and was hoping we could find a reasonable solution. Instead, I left feeling that the issue was being explained away. I fully respect that every salon may have its own techniques and standards. However, customers also have the right to share their experiences and compare them to services they have received elsewhere. My review reflects my honest experience as a paying customer. Just had the BEST experience at Lumos Jun absolutely nailed my set -- the shape, design, and overall execution were flawless. You can tell he really cares about the details and it shows. Queen took care of my toes and was not only amazing at what she does, but also so sweet and welcoming the entire time. The atmosphere here is such a vibe -- they even have a bar with great non-alcoholic options (highly recommend the matcha tea or salted caramel coffee ). I've been to this location two times and they have improved and I love this location. Experience 1: I came during their period of soft opening. I called and spoke with Kevin. I made an appointment for later that day. I arrived a few minutes late, and the nail tech was running behind as well. I was greeted when I arrived, and Kevin even offered a drink while I waited. I was attempting to book my friend a soak off as well, but Kevin seemed flustered since he had three others in line after me to check out, I assumed. I waited and looked at the plethora of nail colors they had. Ivy started my soak off before Jun came and finished my nails. Also, while doing my nails, Nancy walked around having her coworkers hydrate. So nice and thoughtful. There is also a man who walks around cleaning during services. So amazing and hygienic. Jun was extremely helpful and patient while ensuring I got the length and shape (square square so square it cuts me) I wanted. The red was perfect and I was in love. The nails lasted and extremely beautiful. I received compliments galore during the duration of wearing my nails. I also got my nails painted and the lady did a great job. They did chip a little, but that could have been because I didn't get a pedicure, just shellac take off and then painted with shellac. The drinks were amazing as well. The restroom was so clean, and I loved the towels with their name on them. I would definitely go again. Experience 2: I was in the area and called to see if Jun could fit me in. He could. I arrived and was able to wait until my appointment time. I was not bothered. It was so relaxing to handle business before my appointment. Jun came over early before my appointment time. He remembered me and my shape. I picked a different length this time, and I am loving my nails so far. read more

Everything I love about nail salons and more. The unique thing is that they combine top tier drinks with a modern, clean, and well designed atmosphere! Check in is easy. It's well spaced - not crowded. Peaceful and luxurious. Drinks I've gotten - matcha and green tea one ice. I can tell by the taste they use the ceremonial grade (it matters). Service timing ran a little behind the last two times. Not great if you're in a rush but I'm not. It's nice to relax. Otherwise SUPER CLEAN - they had an active cleaning staff on duty. This place is wonderful. The aesthetic throughout, the staff/owner were all very welcoming & attentive, and the location is great. I have been going to Wink & Polish for over a year & really can't complain buuut will say Lumos is staying on my list. If you're familiar with 242 you know the intersection in front of Wink & Polish can be a nightmare. I went for a pedicure on my way home from work so the location was ideal since it's on the right hand side. Since this is their opening week was able to get right in. They had Valentine special drinks, even a non-alc version, and also offer a standard drink menu. My nail tech was Queen & she was excellent. Very sweet, occasionally asking if everything was ok/comfortable. I decided to treat myself so chose the matcha pedicure. I'll admit it looked a little like baby food on my legs, but smelled great. All in all, go check this place out. And if you're GenZ & open to creating IG Reels, the owner has a lot of fun ideas! read more

I was excited to try Lumous Bar even after I went once and was turned away for a pedicure because they were too busy (there were very few customers and no one waiting). I got a short almond set with french tip design. For the astronomical price I paid, I expected to at the very least have cuticle work done. I was shocked when Amber started working on my full set with no cuticle work. I was ALSO shocked to see that when I requested short almond nails, I was being charged for shaping and length. Mind you the tips she used were already in an almond shape! She said she couldn't execute the almond frenchies I requested without "extra" length, meaning if I wanted almond shape I HAD to pay extra for each, $10 for length and $5 for shape. While it was evident the products they use are great quality, the price I paid for the final product did not coincide. The ambiance was immaculate but I prefer better quality work over a nice environment. I wanted to be a regular here as I live close by but I would rather go furhter out and get what I pay for elsewhere. read more
