Today I had the worst experience I've ever had as customer at any nail salon I've been to. The nail technician, My (is her name), was so rude to me after me expressing my dislike of the nail design I asked her for. I asked if there was something else more simpler would could try she told me "no" and that I "wasted her time" Then she asked "you pay for what if I take it off" I said "money isn't the issue for me I'll pay whatever but this isn't something I like." And showed her another photo of something simpler we could do instead. She agreed. And tried to make me choose the color SHE wanted me to do. I asked if they had other colors for me to choose from she said "no" and I kept asking "what do you mean no?" Then after telling me no 3x that I could not choose the color I wanted to choose from my chrome she then goes to get the chrome color choices I've been asking for and hands them to me. After she hands the to me she immediately tell me to "leave and go somewhere else" I asked "so you don't want to do my nails anymore?" She said "no. If you know someone else somewhere else go to them." I have never in my yearssss of getting my nails done experienced this type of disrespect. Especially as a paying customer who told her that money wasn't an issue and that we could do something simple on my nails that made her feel more comfortable. They have forever lost my business. I also have fully natural nails that I'm very prideful of. I worked hard to get them thick and strong. I got my nails painted with gel polish, the execution was horrible. First I'll say I felt like the lady who did my nails had an attitude and she was being really aggressive pulling my hand or hitting my hand away. Anyways, back to the execution, it was rushed and poorly done. There was excess polish on my ends, some nails didn't have enough polish and also there was missing polish on the side of my nails making it look like someone took a bite out of it. Today (Thursday 2 days later) I go in asking for a removal because I couldn't stare at the bad work any longer. And instead of soaking my nails, they filed it down so much that my nails that I worked so hard for feel like PAPER. I specifically choose shellac/gel manicures because my natural nails are extremely thin and weak. Lately, I have only had shellac manicures in the surrounding nail salons, because a shellac manicure provides enough structure and protection to help prevent my nails from bending and breaking. After my appointment at Lumos, my nails felt almost exactly as if I had regular nail polish on them. There was no noticeable thickness, strength, or protection. My nails felt paper-thin and vulnerable to breaking almost immediately. While the manicure looked fine at first, it did not provide the durability and reinforcement I expect from a shellac service. What was most disappointing was my attempt to resolve the issue the next day of service with the salon. I explained my concerns and asked whether an additional layer could be added to provide more structure. Instead of working toward a solution, I felt my concerns were dismissed. I was told that their shellac is essentially like any other polish, and when I continued asking questions, the conversation became defensive rather than helpful. I understand that shellac does not actually strengthen the natural nail itself. However, a properly applied shellac or gel manicure should create a protective coating that adds structure and helps thin nails resist bending and breakage. In my experience, the shellac application at Lumos was noticeably thinner than those I have received at other salons in the area. The difference was significant enough that it felt more like regular polish than a shellac manicure. Perhaps management could benefit from evaluating how other local salons perform shellac services and the level of protection and structure those manicures typically provide. As someone with naturally thin and weak nails, I specifically rely on Shellac because it typically provides enough coating and structure to help prevent bending and breakage. We presented our designs to our techs and they executed the work flawlessly. I, however, had a slip up with my tech and didn't speak up til the end because of nerves, which was my fault. My sister noticed I was not happy when we left, and she paid for my nails, so I called in to see what could be done since we had only just left. The manager offered to fix them for free, but once I got inside he explained how since they had to start over it was a small charge, which was to be expected. Rightfully my tech was upset about me not speaking up, but it was truthfully a miscommunication. I repeated back what I had said I wanted and even noted what she said in the consultation, pointing out exactly where the issue was. She huffed and puffed but like I said, rightfully so as I did waste all of our time. At the end of the service I noticed she calmed down as her coworkers were lifting her spirits, since it was her bday as well. She fixed my nails to something closer to what I wanted and still delivered the results! However, the prices were absolutely ridiculous. $90 for a medium length full set at a nail salon? My sisters nails were $140..Not once were we quoted prices for the designs before starting-- and easily could have paid less for the same work nearby. We asked the receptionist how they price it by design because $230 for 2 full sets is asinine ! This would have been fine however we checked in five minutes before our appointment time and waited 20 minutes past it before we were seated. Which I don't mind waiting, but I should not be inconvenienced because the service requested was minimal. The manager is going to ruin this place. If he's not being rude, he's rushing the techs to finish a service that they are working on. Not sure why he's in charge. If it wasn't for the nail techs, I'd find somewhere else and I'm just at that point.
