I am really surprised to see so many negative reviews! But then those seem to be more about the classes and music shows, I came only for the circus (ABCirque) and had an amazing time. We found the event listed somewhere online at the last minute and it mentioned motorcycle cage stunts and it just seemed so big and dramatic for Brooklyn. We followed the address to a warehouse sandwiched between a cemetery and a burnt out wrecked car. It added to the mysterious, carnival atmosphere. It's a on dark, desolate street, and an old door leads you into a room full of mismatched Bohemian furniture, brick walls, fairy lights, and lots of laughter. I didn't feel like I was in NY anymore, this was almost like a small towns roadside carnival. The show starts off tame with spinning plates and a clown, then escalates to some pretty aerialist acrobatics, a man whose very talented with a whip, and finishing off with some feats of strength and balance before...a man balances a pole on his shoulders while at the top of the pole another man rides a motorcycle in a cage. Man, they delivered. See the photos! This alone is worth coming out for, but the whole show is so great. It's family friendly (plenty of kids in the crowd) but there's plenty to keep adults amused too (plus beer, no snacks though). The bathroom is also very cute. All the stalls to the doors are painted in different ways, with old mirrors and lots of wood, it looks like a Secret Garden themed antique art space. And they have an old timey prize machine: for $5 you get a little weird prize. We chose a "paw print" (see photo), which a local artist makes. Delightfully weird! Their merchandise table was also full of some great finds. Some cons: The entry way is small so once it gets closer to show time the line snakes out the door, but that's not so bad. The chairs are torture devices. The worst freakin chairs I ever sat on. I took a pillow from one of the couches in the waiting area but it really didn't help, I stood for the second half of the show towards the back and had no trouble seeing anything. I really can't recommend this to people enough, it's good for everyone :) read more

First class is $20. Next deal is 5 classes for $85. Not terrible, the issue is that you only have 30 days to complete it! I feel like they don't want people to actually be able to use the classes. A single class is 42 so you'd have to go 3 times in order to make the package worth it, who can really do 5? They are in the middle of nowhere which makes it harder to get there. You'd have to go there every week for a month and then double up on one week... Do you think that's really possible? Unsure if I will go back. The staff wasn't helpful. Said they would relay my thoughts to the manager. Not sure if they will so decided to go to Yelp. Dear Manager, most places give people 2-3 months to finish a package. read more

Love this place, I have taken classes and seen shows here as well. What a wonderful community of artists! I have a performance background but no circus and all the teachers have been wonderful to me. Super helpful, and encouraging. I never felt silly cause I couldn't do something yet. The shows are wonderful. I took a German Wheel class here a few nights ago. It was my first time and although I was super excited, I was admittedly a little scared too, especially the first time that I went upside down for a cartwheel. My instructors--Chris and Emily--were excellent. Super patient and would talk me through step-by-step once we started the more complicated tricks. My classmates were super friendly, and the whole place had a great vibe. I highly recommend this place! read more

Please excuse the delay on my review..Better late than never! I work for an organization that runs summer camp programs across New York City. We had a circus themed week last summer, and we decided it would be really great if we could bring in some acrobats to teach the kids. I took to Google to find a group that could help us, and BAM! The Muse was the first organization I found. I reached out to The Muse, and Larissa and her staff were so quick to respond. They invited us to their performance space to meet face to face. We told them the plan, to have 2-3 performers go to 5 different camp locations at the same time- We knew this was a pretty big request, but they weren't even phased. In fact, they were excited about the challenge! From that initial meeting, until the day of the performances, they were great with communication. They were unbelievably accommodating and were able to bring top quality talent to all of our camps, spanning Riverdale to Park Slope! A few weeks after our initial visit, we had a field trip fall through. I reached out to Larissa again, (with very limited time), and they were able to have all of our camps go to their space to see an amazing show! What's more, is that after we booked the trip, some of our camps doubled in size, and they were still able to find an extra 100 seats so all 350 kids were able to go, the morning of! The show was incredible, and the kids raved about it the rest of the summer. I can't tell you how stressful it is to book events for hundreds of kids- The staff at The Muse took all my stress away. They are so flexible, (literally), and kind and really just want to make the best experience possible for their guests. I really can't say enough good things about our experience with The Muse. They were the highlight of the summer, and I am very thankful I was able to find them! read more

2.5 stars. Came here last weekend to see Acro Cats, a really fun show about circus cats doing fun tricks. The show was great. The theater however was just OK. The stage is not bad and can be seen and heard from anywhere in the theater, even if you're in the back. Also, since it's a small theater off the path tickets are reasonable and the warehouse parking is free. the prices at the bar are also affordable which is nice too. However, they really really badly need to get AC, it was sweltering hot in here in the summer when 95+ degrees with a sell out crowd of hipsters crowded inside. -1 star. Also, i didn't like the seating arrangement, the seating is general admission rather than reserved seats so even if you book two weeks in advance you could get the worst seat in the house, all the people in front of me were putting bags on the seats next to them rudely saving a bunch of seats for like half the theater. -1.5 star. Overall a kinda bad theater due to the seating policy and lack of AC, but reasonable prices and free parking may bring me back if another interesting show comes to town. pros: Free parking at the shady warehouse, reasonable prices on tickets and bar Cons: general admission seating -1.5 star no A/C -1 star read more

I love the Muse! It is an amazing space that offers accessible circus classes, training opportunities, workshops and community events. I have been taking aerial classes and training here for the past year and cannot emphasize enough how wonderful everyone is. The teachers and mentors I have met here are supportive and encouraging. I have learned so much and deeply value this awesome community! This gym is a SCAM, you pay for a package that expires one month after purchase regardless if you activated the package or not. Wow. What a dissatisfaction going into this place I was really expecting for my child to learn something instead I was toll that my child will be playing and learning skills by herself. In the aerial class for kids . Was a total waste of my time 10 minutes in I really wanted to go . I didn't think it was safe for my daughter at all ! Definitely not a place for children . Thanks god i pay the first time ! But I could have use my 13 dollar in something much more useful!! read more

I highly recommend this place for anyone interested in getting their child into acrobats. My little sister comes here about twice a month for 45 to 60 minute acrobat classes. She adores it, the instructor Rebecca is very patient and attentive to her and the other children. Occasionally I would see another staff member also help out with training as well. I can really see the progress my sister had made and how she enjoys it. If you have a kid with an interest in acrobats or circus training give this place a try. It's not a far walk from the L train either if you need to use public transportation. read more

Whether you're new to the circus or have been practicing for a while, the Muse is a fantastic spot to take classes from knowledgeable instructors invested in your well-being and skills progression. The community is super supportive, and you rub shoulders with some of the best aerialists in the city. A wide variety of apparatuses and skills are taught here- there's something for everyone, and at a reasonable price compared to the rest of NYC! And if you're more interested in watching amazing people do amazing things, there are frequently awesome events to dazzle and inspire. There's also generous indoor/outdoor space to rent for non circus events as well (though why you'd ever want to host a non circus event is beyond me ;)! I would not recommend this venue. I ordered 2 tickets to their performance. Before I went I inquired if they had parking and was told yes but when I arrived there was no parking. When I went inside to ask they just told me to find a spot on the street. The closest I could find was several blocks away. The performance was supposed to start at 6 but didn't start till 620. The acts were fun but very amateurish. After about 25 minutes they announced a 15 minute intermission which was actually 20 minutes followed by another 20 minute performance. As the tickets were only 15 dollars it was ok but I would never go again especially since the waiting was as long as the show. read more

Terrible all around and dirty. I recently had the displeasure of attending a dance show at The Muse and it may have been one of the most unprofessional experiences I've encountered. As I walked through the old broken doorway I was greeted with a smell of rotting food. Apparently there was a party the night before and the staff thought it was a good idea to leave the food out for hours during the performance to continually spoil. As crowd began to arrive it was apparent that there would not be enough seating, one of the managers decided that rudely telling people they had to sit down and sit the extras on stools was the best solution rather than bringing out bough chairs prior to the show. As the show began the door to the venue continually creaked and slammed as people came in and out with no one monitoring the door. The lights continued to flicker on and off through out the show and the bartender didn't seem to know how to fix the issue. Perhaps the biggest issue during the show was the continued talking of Muse staff including management during the show. At one point an usher had to actually ask them to stop talking. A manager!! This is a terrible venue for anything other than acrobatics. I do not recommend this to anyone trying to put on any respectable event what so ever. read more
