I moved to Atlanta last year, and finding a new stylist and salon is always one of my biggest…read moreanxieties when it comes to moving. I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it!

I would not recommend seeing Day…read more She messed my hair up even after I showed her a picture of a previous haircut that I liked. She cut way too much off the top and the fade quality was sub par at best. When I got home I noticed the hair up top was all different lengths too which is definitely not what I wanted. Now I need to wait for it to grow back in before seeing someone who knows what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Update!!! I have to give Audree recognition once again. She's one of the few stylist i am…read morecompletely comfortable with doing my hair. Results are good and consistent and she handles my hair with care. I also feel comfortable voicing any questions or concerns about a service or my hair without judgement. The smoothing treatment: After much research and consideration i decided to get the smoothing treatment. I'm so happy with my results!! My hair was silky and kept for well over a week and a half without any additional heat. I took a trip to Italy and even with the rain and humidity it stayed silky. I just used flexirods a few nights and i was good to go. I also got a much needed trim. As usual she laid a white paper behind my hair and confirmed how much she was cutting before she started to make sure i was comfortable with the amount. Post treatment: Even though i loved the results I was nervous about the state of my curls after the treatment, considering my hair stayed so straight for so long. I did read that the treatment stays with you for up to 12 weeks. Curls start out looser then gradually come back. That has completely been my experience. After the first wash my hair curled but looser than usual. Gradually after every wash my hair has tightened more and more. Not completely where it was yet, but I'm also only 4 weeks post treatment. Additionally my hair feels healthy and moisturized. Definitely not damaged or dry. I'm still able to do my same protective styles like twist outs with no issue. Lastly we spoke about an on going plan for my hair. She likes to keep clients hair healthy so she'll only straighten a few times a year and suggested protective styling on other visits. Pictured: There are pictures of me right after the service. Then a few more a week later in Rome.No additional heat at all.

Professional, kind, and healthy hair-focused stylist. Highly recommend Kristina! Book ahead of time…read moreas she fills up fast!

My stylist and hair services: I visited Heather at Salon Modello as a first-time client and Atlanta…read morenewbie. She was very patient with me and had some great ideas about what we could do with my hair -- mostly because I'm always kinda' like, meh, do whatever you think would look good. The color was nice. The cut was great. Heather is skilled, knows what she's doing, and really made me feel like I was in good hands. I think my cut was ~$80, and my color plus foils was ~$290 -- a little pricey but it's quality work. I'll be going back. The shop and atmosphere: The salon is filled with art for sale by local artists, which I really appreciate. There are also offerings of beer, wine, coffee, tea, and water for customers -- I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. In terms of parking, there are spots on the street nearby, but the salon also shares a small private lot with the business next door (facing the salon, it's the driveway to the right) which is a lifesaver, especially for that busy area of town. The receptionist and others stylists all seems friendly, hip, and chill -- in a relaxed way and not a douchey way. I can totally imagine folks of all ages feeling welcome there. Again, I'll be going back. The only slightly odd thing about my whole experience was that the salon keeps your credit or debit card info on file to hold you accountable for last-minute cancelations, those who are atrociously late, and whatnot. And I totally get it -- it's a business and stylists lose money when that kinda' thing happens (which I'm sure is annoyingly frequent). However, it was still weird to hand over my financial information for them to store. At least it makes paying easier at the end of the appointment. TL;DR: Heather is great, shop is nice, there's free beer and parking, don't no-show like a jerk.
