I moved to Atlanta last year, and finding a new stylist and salon is always one of my biggest anxieties when it comes to moving. I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it! read more

I've been going to Urban Evolution Salon for a few years now and I generally like my results. Prices have gone up multiple times recently, which is a bit of a turn off, but I do like this salon better than other local places I've tried. I've seen a few different stylists over the years and recently had to switch to Jason. My first cut with him was great - he was kind and helpful. But upon my second cut from him I ended up disappointed after he changed my part without asking, discouraged me from cutting to the length I asked for, and pressured me to return sooner than I wanted. That day I left feeling worse than when I had arrived. So I've switched (back) to Hannah and she's wonderful. Always a pleasure to work with and she listens to her customers! read more

I was lucky to get an appointment with Bre before the holidays to get my balayage done. I just moved to ATL from LA and was very nervous to trust a new hair stylist with my hair (I had been going to the same person for 5 years before). Bre heard me out and worked with me for hours until I got the color I wanted. A week after, I decided I wanted to get it toned more and called the salon. I went in for a specific haircut after growing my hair for like 2 years. Showed her the pics, she was confident she could do it. I came out with a decent haircut but it looked nothing like what I asked for. Also, considering the price...my hair was not styled properly and I left with pieces of hair on my face. The hairdresser basically just cut my hair and left. The rest was done by other staff...one of which was a student who didn't know how to use a curling iron. Would not recommend. Keep in mind, there is a 4% environmental charge on top of tipping. read more

I visited this salon a few months ago and received quite literally the worst haircut of my life. My experience was terrible and thought that people should know so they don't have to go through the same thing. So a few months ago, after constantly coloring and lightening my hair, I decided I needed to do a big chop to start over. I decided I was going to get the shortest cut of my life and that was a pixie cut. Because it was such a drastic cut, I knew I was going to need to get it cut professionally at a nice place so I chose Urban Evolution. I went online, scheduled my appointment with the stylist who apparently " specialized in creative cuts" and waited till the day of my app. The day of my appointment, I got to my appointment like 10 minutes early just to avoid being late and ended up sitting for 20 minutes over the scheduled time. While sitting there I noticed the vibe was definitely not as professional as they made it seem in pictures. The stylist was wearing sweatpants and I even think one of the girls were wearing some type of pajamas. Anywho, I told the girl what I wanted, showed her a picture as a reference, and she started cutting. Although it looked nothing like the reference, I thought it was fine because it didn't look bad(from what I could see).I noticed it was a bit bulky but because she never showed me the back with a mirror or anything, I could not see the mess. So she finished and I ended up paying $128 and went home. It wasn't until about 2 days later that anyone in my family had seen my haircut so I was totally unaware until my sister pointed out how bad it was. She took a picture and I was very embarrassed and quite angry to say the least. I ended up calling the salon to see if I could get a refund for the mess and they were not open at all to refunding my money for the haircut that appeared like a toddler had done it. The only option they gave me was to come back to get it fixed, as if I really wanted to come back to the place that gave me some half assed haircut that I could have done better myself with a pair of kitchen scissors. My previous stylist moved to this salon, so I tried it out. It's nice inside. Parking is valet (behind the buildings, a bit of a walk), or street (which is always full). I'm fine with paying more for great work, but the prices here are a bit outrageous. They charge for how long you're there vs paying per service, but then take their time a bit TOO slowly. They also ask you to let the trainees do some of your services but still make you pay full price, which I'm not comfortable with. Sadly, I'm looking for a new stylist & spot, as I just don't feel good returning here. The products they sell are also super high end and pretty expensive, FYI. read more

This is a beautiful salon located right on N. Highland Ave. In the lovely community of Virginia Highlands. Just coming here is a treat because of the area! The salon is modern & beautifully appointed. It's NOT really loud & fast paced. I find the loud salons difficult to relax in. I love it when I can speak to my stylist without having to yell! Urban Evolution just passed it's first anniversary date, so it's new & extremely clean. There is a free valet parking area behind the salon, a nice plus - but if you have physical limitations walking up the driveway would be difficult. There is some street parking but be SURE to pay. I missed that 1st time here & received a parking tkt. so you've been forwarned! I've only seen Clair here, but all the stylists are more than competent! I wandered into this salon serendipitously, & have been very happy with Clair. First & foremost, she's very personable, & LISTENS! Yay! She has a long history of experience & holds to high standards. She really wants clients to leave happy & satisfied! The salon carries Aveda, R+Co, & Oribe. From my experience the products are top notch, though can be a tad pricey. Clair has guided me from dry, brittle hair to soft, healthy hair in a 6 month period & I'm extremely pleased! She is great about explaining to me different ways to style it. I love that! I'm terrible at all things hair - styling, products, regularly getting it cut. This is probably why I've had a slew of mediocre hair salon experiences everywhere I've lived. I usually don't feel compelled to return to a given salon, much less write a review. But here I am writing a review for Urban Evolution because my experience with Cairo was awesome! The appointment booking process was easy and digital. The salon is located in a really cute strip of shops, and I was able to find a street spot right outside (not sure if that's luck or the norm). Cairo was timely and friendly - she was a great listener and also seemed very knowledgeable about curly hair in particular. A lot of times, stylists like to tell you that *everything* you're doing is wrong, but I felt like she instead asked me what I need to do with my hair, what my routine is like, and then gave me a couple of tidbits of coaching. I love my cut, and had one of the best blow outs I've ever gotten. Looking forward to going back and maybe one day being a little bit better at mastering my own hair. read more

She did an amazing job on my hair but more importantly also did my wife's hair,color and all and handled it all without a sweat. Mimm is so nice and knows hair whether it be a man or a woman. The salon is on the smaller side but everyone is is nice and helpful. Wife is telling me we may have to come back every 6 weeks so Mimm can do her hair. I live very close to here so I have gone here twice with mixed results. The salon is very nice and they use very nice products. I had two very different experiences and I believe time of day/week/year had a lot to do with it. Everyone has always been very pleasant to work with. I do have pretty high expectations for haircuts. I have good hair, and have had some fabulous cuts in my life a 10/10 for me would be great experience and I just feel beautiful walking out and that the haircut lasts like 8 months before starting to lose its shape. I first got my hair cut by Hannah. This was a random Wednesday afternoon. She spent a good time cutting/styling my hair. I would say that experience was solid. She listened to what I said, and it overall turned out really good. I would describe this as an 8/10. Haircut and experience was good, but I didn't feel like Cindy Crawford in the 90s. I went a second time but saw Jason. It was a busy time during the holidays and the place was packed. I got a good shampoo and a wonderful blowout by Travis. Probably the best blowout I've had. The cut however was just mediocre. I showed Jason some photos of what my hair does and what I liked, but the cut he gave me was some long layers that I immediately disliked. It was the type of cut I have gotten from a Great Clips but for 5x the cost. It just wasn't the cut that I really wanted, I knew it was going to grow out really fast, and I left wishing I hadn't bothered getting a haircut. He also told me that I need to get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks, which may be right, but I don't color my hair or use any heat on it and with a good cut it stays looking good for about a year. I felt that the lame cut was in order to get me to come back sooner. It's been like five months, and I still can't get over how much I disliked and still dislike the cut. I got a great haircut with Ira! She is so fun and personable. She did a great job of thinning out my hair and getting rid of all the damaged/dead hair. The cut frames my face really well and looks good with my hair parted on either side. Her cuts are $65 which I feel is really reasonable for a more upper scale place. She has 8 years of experience. You know how you're supposed to get your ends trimmed every twelve weeks and your highlights touched up every 10 weeks? Yeah, it had been about 20 weeks since either of those things had happened for me. Thankfully Ariel was up for the challenge and spent 3.5 hours impeccably highlighting, glazing, and then shaping my very thick, long, and somewhat coarse hair into something beautiful. I'm pretty bad at figuring out what looks good on me hair wise, and my hair grows really quickly, so I'm willing to do anything suggested to me. Thus, I appreciate a stylist who can take very vague instructions and figure out what will fit my coloring, skin tone, and face shape. Ariel delivered on all of that. This was my third visit to this salon, and I love being able to support a place in my neighborhood. Even though it's in Virginia Highland, it's not stuffy here at all. It's comfortable, warm, and inviting. You'll see men and women of all styles patronizing this place, which I think is also a good sign that you'll be able to find someone to work magic on you. Not doing the hair right is one thing, coming up with excuses and blaming others for your bad work is totally a different story. I don't live in Atlanta and I'm not familiar with the hair saloons in Atlanta, so I went with my yelp friends recommendations...well this saloon might deserve good reviews but Tana definitely dose not. My mom had a hair color appointment with Tana to get her roots colored. When we came home, I saw gray all over her head. There were chunks of gray hair untouched in the middle of her hair. You could see horizontal lines, throughout her hair with no color, where her brush didn't cover the gray hair. She clearly left out pieces uncolored. I called the salon right away and knowing that it would be a quick fix, I expected them to fix their mistake just like any other business who wants happy customers. After being on the phone with them for 30 minutes trying to convince them that the job wasn't done right (because apparently Tana refused to accept her bad work without even seeing her hair) they gave her an appointment to take a look. When we arrived to her appointment, Tana already had her guard up and instead of fixing the hair color, she started to come up with excuses; saying that her hair didn't take the color because of medication, blah blah blah. The owner of the salon was there and even she admitted the fact that her hair color wasn't done right and said it's a quick fix but Tana still insisted that it's her hair...this is the first time I'm seeing such a behavior from a stylist...calm down Miss experienced for 25 years! After all, the owner kindly offered to recolor her hair, but her hair ended up being darker than what she wanted. Anyways, I appreciate the owners' time and kindness but my overall experience was very poor with this saloon. Definitely not going back or recommending it to friends in Atlanta. read more

Just here to say that if you've got curly hair you MUST book with Hannah! Admittedly, until today I hadn't found a stylist in Atlanta that I consistently book with. Went in for a beyond much needed trim and came out understanding my hair in a whole new way. I've spent 30 years hating my curls and for the first time today I realized their actual potential. And we aren't talking hours of styling - Hannah gave me an incredible lesson on how to quickly and easily make my curls work for me. Even in the Atlanta humidity. I was a bit nervous leaving my OTP home and driving into the city to have my hair colored at Urban Evolution, but from the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable and welcome! The salon itself has a very modern and trendy feel and the people are just the best: friendly, kind, and accommodating. Ashley colored my hair this week.... and did a phenomenal job! As a school administrator, I have to pay attention to how I present myself. Ashley listens to what I need, has gotten to know my personality, and finds the perfect color blend to match my need for "professional" with my own "quirkiness." Since it's summer and I don't have to interact with parents or county bigwigs, we decided to go a bit "crazy" (well, as crazy as one can get as a middle school educator, LOL!). She added some fun colors (magenta, purple, mermaid blue) to my hair, all the while talking to me about how great it was going to look *and* how we can be sure to amend it properly when summer vacation comes to a close, and I have to go back to blazers and heels. Called this place up and overnight they made time on their calendar to schedule me. Super flexible with booking and fit me in last minute. Worked with Cairo on color correction. She is very talented and knew exactly what was wrong with the styling technique, how to blend new colors and apply it. End result is perfect; better than my natural color beforehand. Ariel just transformer my hair from bah to my dream hair cut. My hair was seriously damage after bleaching and color process, last year a had a super bad experience with a hair cut, that let me heartbroken and I have to wear extension for 8 months till my hair grow out. Now Ariel did the magic that I needed. She listen to me and asked the right questions about how I style my hair and what I was looking for. I didn't have to show her no pictures she knew what she was doing, and you can imagine how happy I'm right now. I told her that I would like to have some highlights for dimensions, and I love it that she was honest and tell me that I need to wait, to take care of my hair a little longer and them we can go a head.
