Wanted a fish dinner for my birthday…read more I give it 4 and not 5 stars because the service after our dinner before our dessert got extremely slow and the desserts were good, not excellent. We started with drinks at the tiny bar. The drinks were quite good. The restaurant is tiny with a very cute three chair bar. It is decorated with items made by the owner. She is very personable and seems to take pride in the fish she buys and serves. Before dinner, they present you with two tiny corn muffins. A nice little touch. We had the octopus appetizer that was probably among the best we've ever had. It was cooked perfectly. My friend had the scallops and said they were quite good, but a tad undercooked, and the sauce was delicious. I had the Bronzino and it was delicious served with grilled zucchini. The sauce was excellent. For desert, my friend had the Affogato, which he said was just good not great. I had the Keylime parfait. The Keylime itself was quite good, but the crust was just a little off. (I was hoping for a candle in my dessert to get a birthday wish as I had noted in the reservation it was my birthday dinner, but alas, no candle. No biggie, but that would've been a nice touch.)

I almost don't want to reveal this place because it's just that good especially in the summer time…read more I saw this place on social media and wanted to try it instantly with some friends. My friend got the New England clam chowder, which she loved. I got the lobster roll and hush puppies and shared the fish nuggets. Everything was outstanding and I would come back in a heartbeat. My friends and I came here on a random Wednesday so it was not very busy for the time of day. We were promptly greeted by staff and provided with suggestions. They were so so friendly and offered any sauces, as we asked (I'm forgetting if the sauces were extra or not). The place is quite small so it will get crowded but it is so so worth it. Definitely come here if you love seafood and lobster rolls.

It has been years since I have eaten at Hank's. Too long really. But we wanted some seafood and…read moretheir Dupont location was close so - off we went. We were seated immediately and the dining room is adequate. Sufficiently decorated to make it okay. It is furnished for maximum occupancy which is fine. Think casual place, almost bar with food, not fancy at all. I do not mean for this to be a negative comment. Hank's presents itself as more of a beachside joint, not a high end seafood restaurant. Each of these sorts of restaurants has a place in the spectrum. Our waiter - Keith or Kevin - I'm so sorry but I cannot remember his name - was GREAT! Funny, good at his job, great personality and helpful. He started out with a corny, but cute, joke and he kept getting better all night. The manager too was quite good, professional and friendly. What a great staff! The food is good. I could talk about the lobster bisque (a bit on the strong side) or the flounder (a bit on the salty side). But, honestly, the food was good and I enjoyed it a lot. I did not complain about any of it nor do I think a complaint was necessary. So, as I said before, it had been years since I had last eaten at Hank's. But it won't be that long anymore. I recommend Hank's for a casual seafood meal.

Had a fantastic experience at Le Diplomate in DC. They really nail the French brasserie atmosphere,…read morewith the decor and waitstaff in white aprons. The menu offers a good selection of traditional French dishes, and there is a rotating list of specials - one for every night of the week. To start, I went with the L'Ombre Royal cocktail and some escargots, which of course came with some crusty French bread. For the main - there were a lot of good-looking choices, but I went with the steak au poivre - a dish I've been meaning to try. The steak was good, but cognac demi-glace was outstanding. Went perfectly with a glass of the Saint-Émilion and garlic spinach. The service was friendly and well-paced.

This happenstance turned out to be okay as we ended up with a lovely evening at Cordelia's. We ordered the crab cake entree, wild mushrooms, and the whole branzino, followed by the s'mores chocolate bread pudding. The best thing we ate was that bread pudding. It was outstanding! It was rich but light and so moist! The crab cake we also enjoyed. While the bronzino was cooked beautifully, it lacked seasoning and flavor to me. I wasn't a fan of the mushrooms. The ambiance here was alright but slightly too dark. We had to turn our phone lights on to read the menu. Service was good. We park in the garage and you can use the Chasin Tails code for free parking. It's listed at the hostess desk so make sure you get that. Nice looking place...big bar when you walk in and good vibe. I haven't been here in a while, but I've eaten here several times over the years. Since this was my…read morefirst visit after the renovation, I'm going to base my review on that experience. I came here with my cousin, who was visiting from out of town, for a seafood boil. The restaurant looks completely different! The interior doesn't necessarily give off seafood boil vibes, but it was very clean and nicely decorated. Parking is pretty convenient. There's a parking garage nearby, and once you park, you can walk right up to the street where the restaurant is located. No complaints there! One thing I noticed is that they no longer serve seafood boils in bags. Instead, everything comes in a pot. They have plenty of seafood options to choose from, but personally, I think the boil bag is an experience of its own! I ordered mussels, crawfish, corn, sausage, and potatoes, while my cousin went with a cluster of crab legs, corn, sausage, and potatoes. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, although it was a bit lukewarm. Temperature aside, the flavors were definitely there! Everything was delicious. Every single mussel in my pot was HUGE, and the crawfish were especially tasty. Sometimes crawfish can have that mass-produced taste, but these tasted fresh and flavorful. I got my pot with the classic old dang! sauce. I really like that! I also ordered the garlic noodles, which have been one of my go-to items here for years. They didn't hit quite the same as I remembered, but they were still good. For my drink, I ordered a fishbowl cocktail. It was very sweet and tasted good, but it definitely didn't pack the same punch as the fishbowls I remember from previous visits. Our waiter was great! He was personable, attentive, and made the experience even better. Since it was my birthday, he surprised me with a fried cheesecake and a $25 gift card, which I thought was such a nice gesture! I also learned that they have $2 mussels during happy hour, so that alone is enough to get me back through the door. Overall, I personally preferred the atmosphere and seafood boil experience before the renovation. There was just something about the old setup that I enjoyed more. However, the food was flavorful, the service was great, and I still had a good time. I'll definitely be back but my expectations have shifted a bit.

We ended up splitting two meals because we couldn't choose individually. We had the ricotta gnocchi with crabmeat and one of their fish dishes. I have visited Truluck's in DC twice over the last month and a half for two separate dinner events…read morewith different groups of people, and both experiences were exceptional. While the food is always delicious and the drinks are top-tier, the atmosphere and hospitality truly set this place apart. The live music adds so much elegance to the evening. Both young ladies playing the piano and singing were wonderful, but Seva in particular stood out. She has the most beautiful voice and is just as lovely inside as she is out; listening to her made both dinners feel special. Above all, the service is what earned this review. Anthony, the manager, is phenomenal. He clearly takes immense pride in the restaurant and goes above and beyond to ensure every guest is genuinely enjoying themselves and well taken care of. He showed exceptional kindness and personal attention to my friends and me on both visits, making us feel completely welcomed from start to finish. The attention to detail extends to every corner of the venue--even the restrooms are immaculate, complete with complimentary mouthwash so guests can freshen up after dinner, dessert, or an espresso. That level of thoughtfulness speaks volumes about their standards. A few helpful logistical tips for future guests: * Reservations & Arrival: Definitely make a reservation, especially if dining with a group. They offer valet parking, which makes arriving in downtown DC seamless. * Large Party Billing: If you are coming with a large group, note that they can split the bill across up to five credit cards. While five cards is generous for fine dining, it is good to coordinate payment ahead of time if your party has 10 to 15 people. * Dining with Children: The staff is warm and accommodating, but the overall atmosphere leans toward an upscale evening out. While well-behaved older children would do fine, it is best suited for adults rather than toddlers or young kids. Truluck's has easily become one of my favorite spots in the city for a memorable night out, largely because the hospitality matches the high quality of the kitchen and bar. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like Truluck's because it's a beautiful, upscale restaurant, but unfortunately,…read morethe energy was OFF from the beginning. I called because I thought I might be running late for our 5 PM reservation. The person who answered wasn't particularly warm and immediately reminded me about the 15-minute grace period and suggested valet parking. Plot twist: I arrived at 4:59 PM and even managed to snag street parking not too far away. My friend arrived about five minutes later, so neither the grace period nor valet ended up being necessary. Side note: this area definitely needs better parking options! Unfortunately, the energy didn't improve much when we walked in. The restaurant had just opened for the evening, and we were handed a Theater Menu without much explanation. Our waitress, however, seemed very nice and patient and appeared ready to thoroughly walk us through the menu once we settled in. The restaurant itself is BEAUTIFUL and upscale, and accessibility gets a plus from me because they even have an elevator. The menu looked okay, but I was really craving sushi that evening, and between that and the initial vibe, I just wasn't feeling it. My friend was equally willing to leave, so we decided to go somewhere else. Later, I noticed that the reservation was canceled on OpenTable, which I thought was a little strange considering we DID arrive for the reservation and simply decided not to stay. One thing about me: I purposely try NOT to read Yelp reviews before visiting a restaurant because I don't want someone else's experience influencing mine. But AFTER this visit, I went back and read some of the recent reviews. Whew. I noticed several reviewers mentioning poor customer service and some experiences that sounded very similar to the energy we encountered. So apparently, we weren't the only ones who walked away feeling that way. And before anyone assumes we left because of the prices...NOPE. We went to another restaurant with comparable prices. Sometimes it's not about the money or even the menu. The overall experience starts the moment you interact with a restaurant, and unfortunately, my first impression here just wasn't a good one. Maybe another time, because the space itself is gorgeous, but this visit ended before dinner ever got started.
