Ok, I will say the service was top notch, even for a trio of nobodies like us. We showed up a bit early for our reservation, were asked to take a seat at the bar to wait. We ordered drinks from the very friendly bartender. When our table was ready the maitre'd came to get us and said not to worry, our tab would be added to our dinner check. We were seated and waited on by a super friendly waiter. There were clearly a table of politicians next to us. When they left we asked the waiter who they were, and he happily informed us. Nobody we knew, but pretty cool anyway. This is definitely the place where you might see absolutely anyone who just strolled over from the capital. Unfortunately, I have to say that's where the appeal of this place ends. It's a pretty mediocre high end steak house. They're known for the crab bisque. Honestly, it was fine. Not bad. Just not particularly great or anything. We all had the filet mignon. I will say they cooked each of them exactly right. But they were just not exceptional steaks, especially at that price point. And they were covered in a sauce that just overwhelmed it, which perhaps was intentional. We also ordered creamed spinach and potatoes, both of which also were just fine. Not bad, just totally underwhelming. All in all, a pretty disappointing meal. This is a place to come to potentially see some famous political faces, or if your really into politics and will get excited seeing some nobodies, but if your looking for a really good steak dinner, go someplace else.

I have always walked by the Monocle but never have had the chance to go. Finally, I had a special lunch scheduled, but unfortunately it did not meet expectations. We had to remind the waiter (twice) for all of our sides and they arrived at the end of our meal. My husband had to ask for a ginger ale refill. My water was at least consistently refilled. Three of us ordered salmon and we agreed it was not spectacular nor did I love the sauce with it. It was cooked fine but did not wow. A gentleman in our party enjoyed his steak. You have to ask for the bread; ideally the waiter would have offered.

Nice food and close to the Capitol. Decent menu options. had a fantastic Shrimp Louie add crab- the dressing was so so good. Co worker had the burger and said it was well cooked.

Absolutely fantastic! Food was perfect, service was flawless and friendly. Ambiance is old time charm. Comfortable and just perfect to enjoy a great meal. My food was superb. Good location.

Cozy intimate American steakhouse with great service! Great place to celebrate or reunion with friends. I had an issue with my steak and they worked to make it right and I was very grateful. Great cocktail and dessert list too!

Rumor is that U.S. Senators prefer this nearby restaurant. I can't speak to politics but I can speak to their good taste! This restaurant is clearly a well-establish dining enclave. The booths are tight. If you know, you know. Don't let tummy pressing tightness dissuade you. I am very salt sensitive. I find most restaurants blow your palate away with overly salty food. Not here. I can say without reserve that my octopus was well grilled (okay, a few pieces were extremely chewy), the "spicy" sausage was redolent of the savory flavors of the American south, though to my (spice forward) palate, I did not discern a lot of heat. The Santorini fava, a traditional Greek dish made of split yellow peas had a delightful freshness and subtle sweetness that served effectively as a sauce for the octopus and sausage. The combination of flavors was surprisingly fresh, and reflected a clear culinary perspective (and a practiced hand). I very much enjoyed the food and my friends reported similar happiness with their dishes. Restaurant well, my friends!

Excellent restaurant for a very expensive meal, but with good food and amazing service. Great place to impress. Also a great venue if you are meeting up with some Washington DC friends after work. Conveniently located across the street from Union station. New York strip steak was fantastic. French fries met expectations. Cheesecake also met expectations. Diet Coke glass was full, I didn't have any alcohol. Everyone else who did have alcohol seemed to really enjoy the experience.

The service and atmosphere were lovely, but I was underwhelmed by the food especially considering the pricing. The drinks and specials we tried were very good though!

I had dinner here with a couple of colleagues while in town for a meeting. I had been here before for a group dinner, but this was my first visit with just a regular reservation and ordering off the menu. This is a historic restaurant right near the Capitol and is a good spot to increase your chances of catching a glimpse of members of congress if you're interested in doing so; there are lots of signed photos on the wall of previous guests. The menu is classic and basic with steaks and classic seafood. I had the crab cake and added on the optional side of fries. The crab cake was excellent; almost entirely big chunks of crab. The vegetables and fries were good. I had a ginger manhattan from the cocktail list; it was an excellent manhattan and the ginger was subtle. Service was a little off sadly. Other tables received bread and we did not. We asked about this and were told it was coming but never did. We also had an hour wait between cocktails and food arriving which is part of why we wanted the bread. Other tables were definitely being served before us; not sure if our ticket was misplaced for a bit. If something like that did happen, an explanation would have been helpful. I definitely love a leisurely dinner, but this did not seem by design.

Off Capitol hangout...great atmosphere for anger together, and good food. We had an opportunity to meet with a member of Congress and then follow that meeting up with a meal and some drinks. Harris was an awesome server and handled our group of about 15 with ease. I ordered the Hanger Steak, medium rare, it was very good. It was covered with a cognac mushroom sauce which enhanced the flavor of the meat. I also ordered the mushroom and oysters side, which was surprisingly good. I enjoyed my side over the potato au gratin, and the green beans and carrots. Folks from party ordered the NY Strip, which was sizeably generous. The halibut presented well and for good reviews. Two from my table ordered (and didn't share) their creme brulee. I chose to dessert on a Knob Hill, neat. Great experience at a traditional steak restaurant, in a not so traditional location.

Delicious!! Started with shellfish bisque, followed by a paradise salad, then topped it off with Crème Brûlée! So very good, with stellar service by Haris!

We were visiting and taking the train back to Richmond. This location is walking distance to Union Station. The guy host was so friendly and overall the service was good. The pictures all over the restaurant were pretty cool too. This place isn't cheap. The food options are what I would expect for a "White House dinner" or something like that so that's pretty cool but it's not amazing or a dinner I would necessarily remember. It served its purpose and convenient.

We were seated immediately and the dining room is adequate. Sufficiently decorated to make it okay. It is furnished for maximum occupancy which is fine. Think casual place, almost bar with food, not fancy at all. I do not mean for this to be a negative comment. Hank's presents itself as more of a beachside joint, not a high end seafood restaurant. Each of these sorts of restaurants has a place in the spectrum. Our waiter - Keith or Kevin - I'm so sorry but I cannot remember his name - was GREAT! Funny, good at his job, great personality and helpful. He started out with a corny, but cute, joke and he kept getting better all night. The manager too was quite good, professional and friendly. What a great staff! The food is good. I could talk about the lobster bisque (a bit on the strong side) or the flounder (a bit on the salty side). But, honestly, the food was good and I enjoyed it a lot. I did not complain about any of it nor do I think a complaint was necessary. So, as I said before, it had been years since I had last eaten at Hank's. But it won't be that long anymore. I recommend Hank's for a casual seafood meal.

It was rich but light and so moist! The crab cake we also enjoyed. While the bronzino was cooked beautifully, it lacked seasoning and flavor to me. I wasn't a fan of the mushrooms. I came here with my cousin, who was visiting from out of town, for a seafood boil. The restaurant looks completely different! The interior doesn't necessarily give off seafood boil vibes, but it was very clean and nicely decorated. Parking is pretty convenient. There's a parking garage nearby, and once you park, you can walk right up to the street where the restaurant is located. No complaints there! One thing I noticed is that they no longer serve seafood boils in bags. Instead, everything comes in a pot. They have plenty of seafood options to choose from, but personally, I think the boil bag is an experience of its own! I ordered mussels, crawfish, corn, sausage, and potatoes, while my cousin went with a cluster of crab legs, corn, sausage, and potatoes. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, although it was a bit lukewarm. Temperature aside, the flavors were definitely there! Everything was delicious. Every single mussel in my pot was HUGE, and the crawfish were especially tasty. Sometimes crawfish can have that mass-produced taste, but these tasted fresh and flavorful. I got my pot with the classic old dang! sauce. I really like that! I also ordered the garlic noodles, which have been one of my go-to items here for years. They didn't hit quite the same as I remembered, but they were still good. For my drink, I ordered a fishbowl cocktail. It was very sweet and tasted good, but it definitely didn't pack the same punch as the fishbowls I remember from previous visits. Our waiter was great! He was personable, attentive, and made the experience even better. Since it was my birthday, he surprised me with a fried cheesecake and a $25 gift card, which I thought was such a nice gesture! I also learned that they have $2 mussels during happy hour, so that alone is enough to get me back through the door. Overall, I personally preferred the atmosphere and seafood boil experience before the renovation. There was just something about the old setup that I enjoyed more. However, the food was flavorful, the service was great, and I still had a good time. I'll definitely be back but my expectations have shifted a bit.

While the food is always delicious and the drinks are top-tier, the atmosphere and hospitality truly set this place apart. The live music adds so much elegance to the evening. Both young ladies playing the piano and singing were wonderful, but Seva in particular stood out. She has the most beautiful voice and is just as lovely inside as she is out; listening to her made both dinners feel special. Above all, the service is what earned this review. Anthony, the manager, is phenomenal. He clearly takes immense pride in the restaurant and goes above and beyond to ensure every guest is genuinely enjoying themselves and well taken care of. He showed exceptional kindness and personal attention to my friends and me on both visits, making us feel completely welcomed from start to finish. The attention to detail extends to every corner of the venue--even the restrooms are immaculate, complete with complimentary mouthwash so guests can freshen up after dinner, dessert, or an espresso. That level of thoughtfulness speaks volumes about their standards. A few helpful logistical tips for future guests: * Reservations & Arrival: Definitely make a reservation, especially if dining with a group. They offer valet parking, which makes arriving in downtown DC seamless. * Large Party Billing: If you are coming with a large group, note that they can split the bill across up to five credit cards. While five cards is generous for fine dining, it is good to coordinate payment ahead of time if your party has 10 to 15 people. * Dining with Children: The staff is warm and accommodating, but the overall atmosphere leans toward an upscale evening out. While well-behaved older children would do fine, it is best suited for adults rather than toddlers or young kids. Truluck's has easily become one of my favorite spots in the city for a memorable night out, largely because the hospitality matches the high quality of the kitchen and bar. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like Truluck's because it's a beautiful, upscale restaurant, but unfortunately,…read morethe energy was OFF from the beginning. I called because I thought I might be running late for our 5 PM reservation. The person who answered wasn't particularly warm and immediately reminded me about the 15-minute grace period and suggested valet parking. Plot twist: I arrived at 4:59 PM and even managed to snag street parking not too far away. My friend arrived about five minutes later, so neither the grace period nor valet ended up being necessary. Side note: this area definitely needs better parking options! Unfortunately, the energy didn't improve much when we walked in. The restaurant had just opened for the evening, and we were handed a Theater Menu without much explanation. Our waitress, however, seemed very nice and patient and appeared ready to thoroughly walk us through the menu once we settled in. The restaurant itself is BEAUTIFUL and upscale, and accessibility gets a plus from me because they even have an elevator. The menu looked okay, but I was really craving sushi that evening, and between that and the initial vibe, I just wasn't feeling it. My friend was equally willing to leave, so we decided to go somewhere else. Later, I noticed that the reservation was canceled on OpenTable, which I thought was a little strange considering we DID arrive for the reservation and simply decided not to stay. One thing about me: I purposely try NOT to read Yelp reviews before visiting a restaurant because I don't want someone else's experience influencing mine. But AFTER this visit, I went back and read some of the recent reviews. Whew. I noticed several reviewers mentioning poor customer service and some experiences that sounded very similar to the energy we encountered. So apparently, we weren't the only ones who walked away feeling that way. And before anyone assumes we left because of the prices...NOPE. We went to another restaurant with comparable prices. Sometimes it's not about the money or even the menu. The overall experience starts the moment you interact with a restaurant, and unfortunately, my first impression here just wasn't a good one. Maybe another time, because the space itself is gorgeous, but this visit ended before dinner ever got started.
