First things first, it was hot in the restaurant, potentially the A/C was not working as well as it should have been or something, but it was not super comfortable. The service was good, I didn't get her name, a younger woman waited on me and she was very kind and did the best she could. The food came out super slow, I ordered empanadas to start, the waitress said they burned the first order (I appreciated that didn't just serve me overdone empanadas lol) once they finally arrived they were just unfortunately bland, and just kind of lacked authenticity. When she finally brought out my main dish, she even apologized for the wait and said "I had to go yell at them". For a main entree I ordered the French dip with onion rings, another reviewer mentioned they were the best they had had. The meat was kind of tough and dry (which is odd for a French Dip, and everything just lacked flavor. Even the au jus really had no kind of salt or much flavor to it. I really hoped after seeing how everyone else rated this place that I had found that little hole in the wall spot putting out killer food that we all long for, sadly this wasn't it.

What a great spot to host your rehearsal dinner, etc! There actually was a wedding going on during our time there which just added to the experience. We actually didn't start with any appetizers but did order a couple of salads for the table: Pear & Grape Lemon Caesar Both were delicious and a great start to our meal. Entrees: Rustic Tomato Braised Meatballs (order it!) Airline Chicken (delicious but small chicken portion) Alla Fresca Pasta (great!) B&B Flat Iron Steak served with mashed potatoes & Spinach (I wanted to lick my plate!!) All of our food was delicious. Our server Aaron took great care of us and I'd definitely return to Board & Batten!

We didn't have to wait long for food, drinks or our check/to go boxes. We got the non alcoholic drink with prickly pear and pineapple- fantastic mocktail recipe! It reminded me of a perfect refreshing drink for end of summer, beginning of fall. Smooth and subtle pineapple. I have to be honest the sea bass was probably the best sea bass I have tried. 100/10 so flavorful and adding a squeeze of lemon was a hit! I would definitely some back here. Even the bread sticks they serve with the table waters are yummy garlicky and soft and warm. I expected a lot more "patriotic style" American restaurant decor but it is tasteful and tasty!

She made sure everything was GF, and I believe she even mentioned that they have a dedicated fryer, which was such a comforting bonus! The only hard part about dining here was the complimentary bread that arrives at your table when you sit down. It looked and smelled absolutely delightful... but sadly, it wasn't gluten-free. Thankfully, my meal made up for it in leaps and bounds! We are DEFINITELY adding Red White & Brew to our rotation! I saw this location had some good seating to have 10 of us as a send off. The staff was incredibly friendly, and even offered extra chairs and help move tables if needed. What We Ordered: - German Potato Salad: My cousin ordered and really liked it. I'm not a fan of German potato salad, so I didn't enjoy the flavor. I'll stick to my potato salad. - Potato Salad: Pretty decent for a potato salad, but nothing standout for me. - Meatball Sub: My cousin and his son split this, and they said it was quite large. They wished it had more sauce, but still overall a decent meatball sub. - Caesar Salad + Chicken: I couldn't snap a photo before my cousin's girlfriend and his daughter tore into this. They seemed very pleased with the salad and at a glance, it looked pretty delicious. - Philly Cheesesteak: My dad said it was very good and ate the whole thing! - Roasted Veggie Wrap: My mom said it was nice, and veggies are refreshing on a hot summer day. It was wrapped well, and enjoyed the umami of the mushrooms and balsamic glaze. - Pastrami Reuben: I loved this sandwich! The pastrami was delicious, and I'm excited to have leftovers which is saying something. I'm not usually one to look forward to leftovers. - Turkey & Swiss Wrap: My auntie throughly enjoyed this, and said it was the perfect last meal in America before heading back to England. - Chef Salad: My auntie and I split this to have a bit of veg. Lovely salad with lots of ingredients that complimented each other well. - The American (Reuben-style): My cousin really enjoyed this sandwich and said it was quite large. Next time, she could easily split with me or her fiancée. - Cuban: My cousin's fiancée ordered this and said it's the best Cuban sandwich he's ever had! Quite high remarks. Honestly, I'm not sure I could pick a better place. Very friendly, quick service, and great eats. Definitely return to this location when in the area, and will recommend to family and friends.

If you establish a presence here, they will take care of you. Consistency is another major selling point. Go here 10 times, and your food is going to be on point about 9.5 of those times. Those are pretty good odds. They have just recently started a soft launch of their fall/winter menu, which means they are experimenting with a few new dishes while bringing back some old favorites. One of those returning favorites is the crispy cauliflower. Last time around, it was fantastic. This time, while still tasty, it had apparently filed a formal complaint against the word "crispy" because there was very little evidence to support the claim. Even the bartender agreed with me that it was somewhat misrepresented. Tip: Get the sauce on the side. It will help preserve what level of crisp that is intended for this dish. Now, let us move on to the star of the evening. The new chicken parmigiana! Holy mother of God. Butter my butt and call me a biscuit. This may genuinely be one of the most beautiful, perfectly textured, and downright delicious chicken parmigianas I have ever had. The chicken was crisped to absolute perfection, and the way they layered the marinara on top was brilliant. Rather than drowning the chicken in a traditional, liquidy sauce, they used more of a bruschetta-style topping, which gave it texture while somehow allowing the breading to remain gloriously crispy. Hands down, one of the best chicken parmigianas I have ever had. Now we just need to pray to whatever culinary deity is responsible for consistency that they can replicate this thing every time, because this one was ridiculously good. One final recommendation: split the dish.Unless you are the kind of person who considers a family-size portion a light snack, there is plenty of food here for two.

There is a small room off the back. The decor is a little different, brighter, and you can see that there are heavy curtains that usually close it off. Patio is actually really pretty - - I would say it's got a much nicer atmosphere than the dining room. We were seated in the little in the back. I'm not sure why, because I was plenty of seating in the main dining area. I didn't love it because it was kind of bright and not really a great date night dining area, compared to the rest of the restaurant. Our cocktails were quite good, and my husband really liked his burger. He ordered a side salad with the Gorgonzola dressing, and that was amazing. It made me wish I had just ordered a salad because that dressing was so delicious. I ordered the salmon which comes with butternut squash and Brussels. The salmon was fine but I did not like the brussel sprouts or the butternut squash and I did not like the glaze on any other food. I picked up my salmon and left the rest. Hubby was nice enough to offer me half of his salad because he saw how unhappy I was with my mral. That said, I'm sure that there are other people that would absolutely love that meal and that was just a personal taste of mine. Overall, this was a nice enough place, especially since Mesa seems to have bit a shortage update night type of restaurants. I will come back, but I will try something different - - certainly something with a salad in that fantastic dressing.

Much to our dismay, the restaurant was closed to focus on catering. Luckily, though, It reopens for pop-ups. This morning I saw an Instagram post announcing that there would be a brunch pop up today, so we got up and got ready to go. It really is tucked away in the corner of plaza and goodbye Safeway. Inside is a small dining room with a bar, and through the rolling doors is a patio with outdoor seating. You can see the kitchen through the plexiglass divider, and there is bar seating along the divider so you can watch the cooking. There's a great, colorful mural on one wall and some fun lighting fixtures and art. Today's pop up was packed when we arrived. We grabbed the last two chairs which were on the bar overlooking the kitchen. The menu had seven choices. Of course we ordered two different things so we could share, but we skipped cocktails. We ordered: *Steak chilaquiles Christmas style (both red and green chile) served with a side of beans and talked with an egg *Green chili pork hash served with a side of beans talked with an egg Both were delicious! We both ordered scrambled eggs, and I'm pretty sure it was more than an egg. I'm not sure how they cook those eggs but they were the best ever. The pinto beans had green chili in it and was so good. I'm from New Mexico, and these tasted like the beans that you rarely find outside of New Mexico. The steak on my chilaquiles was really good - - thin sliced and tender. I was able to easily cut it with just a butter knife. The pork in the hash was so yummy. What are scrumptious brunch! It was nice to sit overlooking the kitchen, as it was quite a show to watch the chef. I was amazed at how over easy eggs were tossed and caught in the pan without the yolks breaking. Heck, I can't even flip eggs with a spatula without breaking the yolk! Anytime I've overlooked a chef cooking, I'm totally in awe of their amazing skills, and this was no different. I really recommend Tucked Away, just as I did when it was a regular restaurant. Follow them on Instagram to be alerted to pop ups. You won't regret it!
