You are probably considering coming here because there's nothing better within (at least) a 20 mile radius. But I'll tell you: come here because the food is good. Actually, the food is great! The service is friendly too. Some reviews complain that food is slow but we didn't pay attention to that as we were drinkinng beer from a surprisingly very decent selection (read Guinness and Hefe). We had the ribeye and the patty melt. My girlfriend claims to be a patty melt connoisseur and it was one of the best on her book: juice inside and crispy outside. The ribeye (it's not on the menu, it's their special) was cooked to perfection and it melted in my mouth. The baked potato was delicious too. We sat at the bar so I can't speak for the decor in the main dining room. We have no complains! In short, don't skip this place! You will be happy here. read more

Happened upon this Roadhouse looking for a place to park after a blow out on a trailer tire. I have a three hour wait till the repair truck shows up so I figured I grab some lunch.... Had the Club Sandwich it was huge and came with fries. No complaints. We stop here for breakfast going to Oregon or returning home. The staff is always courteous and polite. The Waitresses continuously check on you to see if you need anything else at your table. The food is always fresh and hot when served at the table. The interior of the restaurant is very interesting to see, they have a lot of taxidermy animals that are local from the area and some not so local. The Mohawk is a interesting place to eat with their large collection of taxidermy. Kids love it here so that is always a big plus in my book. The food is good, prompt, and they are super great about my food allergys! The bartenders are friendly, and can mix a mean drink. Love there biscuits and gravy! I will find my photos of The Mohawk's dining room and upload them. Each, truly a thousand words. I will never forget my first meal at The Mohawk. My dad drug our immediate family there. I was in my early 20's, likely hungover, and none too eager to be awakened and summoned to breakfast. I don't think I was fully awake until I was seated and then stunned because above me, all around, were creatures of all types. Stuffed. Mounted. Frozen in time. The locals are also somewhat frozen in time, but that's another story. The food, well, I don't remember my first meal because I don't think I could eat it. But later I recall it being surprisingly OK. Diner stuff. There's a certain off kilter charm to the place and it's not a bad place to stop if you don't mind the haunting animals, so very many of them -- two-headed, endangered (not when originally taxidermied, of course), etc., bizarro displays of stuffed animals, some soaring overhead and some just quietly watching you like Mr. Bates' prized pets. It's definitely worth a stop if you're cruising Highway 97 (it's about an hour south of Bend). Just don't say I didn't warn you -- about both types of wildlife, the stuffed variety and the lively locals. read more

We were on our way back from Bend yesterday and were looking for something besides fast food to try. We stumbled upon this funky diner and decided to give it a shot. First off , the waitress was super friendly and made us feel welcome . The decor is something my friends from LA might run from since it consists of too many taxidermy animals to count plus a very cool bottle collection . It's not everyday you have a meat loaf special with a stuffed two headed pig looking at you but it adds to the experience:) The food was tasty and filled is up on a cold afternoon . If you are staying in Crescent, Oregon, dining choices are limited but The Mohawk is really worth even going a little out of the way for. There is a large bar with a pool table and a jukebox and looks like a throw back night out. We wished we had selected this restaurant for dinner since the menu looks like good country cooking. We did stop in for breakfast and it was quiet and service was quick and friendly. We had a traditional eggs, bacon, biscuit hearty breakfast for a very reasonable price. Even the diner coffee was very good. The ambiance was a little dark for a morning dining experience, but we did enjoy perusing the antique liquor bottles. Our server was very sweet and even chased me down when I left my favorite sweater behind. I would absolutely stop in The Mohawk for a drink and a meal whenever passing through this area again. read more

We rely on Yelp to steer us to interesting places on our frequent road trips. The Mohawk was another winner. Great comfort food, kind and funny staff, and a fascinating history and ambience. The unassuming exterior (a former grange hall) adds to the "wow" factor of the dining room. As the photos in other reviews attest---it's a museum of liquor bottles, a nature center, and a history lesson in one large rooms. I can imagine that playing "I Spy" here with kids at the table would be a successful distraction ;-) The food hits the mark for reflecting the sense of place and using quality ingredients (fresh soft rolls for a ham/cheese melt, well-dressed greens mix for salads and crispy soft French fries. We had great exchanges with our server who was efficient and personable, happy to answer our questions about the history of the area. I also like places that highlight local crafts and stories and was delighted to find a set of stories about the history and people who've passed through Central Oregon. The Mohawk was another example of what our family calls "travel magic" ---finding a place to eat, take a break, and learn about the people and area we're passing through. We'll return. read more

I could swear I had written a review of this place. We've been stopping for years because it's so quaint. Good road food, great atmosphere, the kind you so rarely find any more. Historical note: the beautiful knotty pine paneling in the restaurant was milled up the road in Gilchrist at the current sawmill. You can also see that paneling in the Gilchrist Inn in Gilchrist, which is a good place to stay, and it's only one mile from the Mohawk. There is a good walking path between the two towns, so stay in one town and eat in another! read more

This restraint was a pleasant surprise. On our way back from crater lake we stopped for lunch . The special was the bacon barbecue burger and home made fries it was amazing! Their side salad was fresh and the atmosphere was very eclectic. I would love to stop by again and try more of their specials. The employees were attentive and very sweet. From the outside it looks like a run-down dive bar in the middle of nowhere, but that's hardly the case. The restaurant has a lot of history, as evidenced by the menu (they describe it on the back). Ate here for lunch. Ordered a couple different burgers. The Ortega Chile burger was great. The fries were really delicious! Super meaty and crispy! You will never get bored in this place. There is an amazing collection of taxidermy in the dining room, hundreds of animals you probably will never see live in the wild. A huge buffalo head, a whole anteater (had no idea how big those things are!), a two-headed calf, sea turtles, etc. Overall it's a very fun place with pretty good food! What a wacky restaurant/saloon, but you've gotta eat! We drove 20 miles from our hotel to find a restaurant and this was it. We were pleasantly surprised! Service was friendly and it was the waitress' fourth day on the job. Place dimly lit and lined with a bottle collection and taxidermy and animal pelts on walls and ceilings. The food was pretty good. We ordered the fish n chips basket, the chicken fried steak dinner and a baked potato, side of veggies and bowl of chili. Mashed potatoes and gravy were great, as was the chicken fried steak. Can't really comment on the fish because it comes out of a box and is deep fried, so it tastes like cod always does. It was fried perfectly and crisp. The chili was good. The pie was great! Some of them come frozen and are baked, and some-like the coconut cream pie and the cheesecake are baked by the owner. All around good. read more

The burgers are better than Stanich's in Portland, OR and the Club House sandwich is enormous and tasty. And the Fries are better than Little Big Burger.
