We tried this restaurant for the first time earlier this week. The restaurant is very clean, and the chicken fajita salad we had was delicious and giant; enough for two meals. We spent the morning clearing trees and brush in the forest, so we had worked up a good appetite for lunch. We were greeted and seated promptly by a happy and friendly staff member. Our drink order was delivered quickly along with a delicious, chunky salsa and chips. We both had the fajita salad which was large enough to serve two. The fried flour shell was the only downside, as it was oilier than most and tasted like that fry oil had just turned rancid. OK as we don't normally eat much of the shell, but we'll just order fajitas with steamed corn shells next time. read more

Although we're not vegetarians, we do eat mostly vegetarian so were tickled to see the mini-vegetarian menu with some fun offerings! We loved the spinach quesadilla (freshly sauteed spinach, mushrooms, onions) and spinach burrito (add rice and ranchero beans) and the tomatillo sauce that came on the burrito was wonderful. All of the servers and hosts were friendly and helpful and attentive and the restaurant has lovely old-world Mexican accents like carved wooden chairs and booths. Update - I heard they added Birria, so I really wanted to try it and hope we had a local place where we could get it on the regular. The first visit when they opened was bad, this was worse. This first time, the saving grace, which was the staff, was just as bad as the food. I ordered carry out this time. When I got home 15mins later and found we got quesadillas instead of the ordered chimichangas. I called and made sure to very politely ask about the mix up and quickly realized that wasn't going anywhere, so I just hung up. Said quesadillas are pictured - I think they are microwaved. The Birria has a weird soapy taste to it, and there is absolutely no crisp on the super thin tortilla. Without a doubt the worst I have ever had. There was literally nothing good. The complimentary chips are even terrible. Aside from this, we ordered 4 dishes and the super soggy, sloppy appetizer fries which totaled $95, plus additional $19 tip that I am seriously regretting at the moment. read more

Very bland food. Husband got the chili verde and it had no flavor. He had to add salt but it didn't really help much. The salsa tasted like it came from a jar from the grocery store. I've never given a five star review to any restaurant and definitely came in today with average expectations. We ordered the Molcajete and it was beyond amazing. Perfectly cooked meat piping hot with flavors bursting. Fed my husband, and I with leftovers. The stone dish it was served in kept it piping hot the entire meal. Our server was very nice and patient with us while we looked through the menu. He also was very attentive and checked on us multiple times to make sure everything was to our liking. I had the combo plate with 2 cheese enchiladas and 1 chicken taco. I could tell the taco shell was homemade and had the perfect crisp to it. The chicken was very juicy too! I had the carnitas plate which was better than many I have had in more expensive places. Thin sliced peppers and onions made it even better. Very small lacking in the seafood and not properly deep fried at all , tortilla was soggy from so much sauce on top This is the second meal that was lousy! This is the worst food I have found in Oregon. My husband and I ordered food to go the other night. He had ordered me a ground beef, bean, rice, and cheese burrito, simple right? He ordered himself chili Colorado. He forgot to tell them to make my burrito dry, but that doesn't matter. My so-called burrito looked like an enchilada covered with sauce, and on the side there was a clump of beans, a clump of rice and some cheese on top of the beans, look like I ordered an enchilada dish with beans and rice. The so-called burrito only had ground beef in it, keep in mind, the beans and rice were all on the side in the same container like I said, looked like an enchilada and the sauce was inedible. I would never order an all meat burrito to save my life or I should say an all meat enchilada. My husband's dish looked like perfectly formed squares of meat in red sauce. The meat was so dry and the sauce was very bad. This is the first time I've ever seen my husband only take a couple bites of something and then throw it away. He eats anything. I have no idea what the heck. I honestly would consider Taco Bell more Mexican food than this place. I think my husband ordered a beer while he waited. The order came to over $60. They did give us a bag of chips and those actually we're good. The only good thing. The pico de gallo in the little containers was sweet with no spice. I would think I was being punked getting food like this. Hands-down worst place in Oregon. I cannot even call it Mexican food because it was nowhere close Mexican food. I do love good Mexican food, but I understand that not all Mexican food is gonna be great. This place was a joke though. I honestly would consider Taco Bell better Mexican food than this place. Very nice dining room (it's new so as to be expected) with strangely un-Mexican but appealing nautical & wood decor; very, quiet with tv's on with no sound and no music playing which left only the loudness of the guy on his cellphone behind the front desk (who ended up being the bartender) going on and on as he had been since I came through the door (so about 15 minutes....) followed by the ongoing conversation in the booth next to mine. The menu was 11 pages of typical Mexican fair.Hot chips and a tasty salsa were served right away. I ordered a beef chimichanga which came with beans and rice, nothing out of the ordinary mainly because everything interesting on the menu was outrageously priced; the typical "Speedy Gonzales" combo of a taco, enchilada, and tostada was $18 (there is a lunch menu with a couple dollars off some items). The chimichanga was soft-ish, not crispy and swiftly became soggy under the sour cream and guacamole (and a bit of salsa I added) by the third bite in. Rice was dry however, the beans were amazingly delicious. The flan was perfection!! As for Service, I was surprised. I was eating by myself, and there were two other tables at the time I came in, and probably three more tables by the time I left with two servers and two busboys/water-refillers so it didn't seem to me that they should be overwhelmed. I was never asked what I wanted to drink, I had to ask for water, and was never asked about a drink after that, not even if I wanted coffee with my dessert. Very strange as I wanted to order a drink that I saw another couple order, but just gave up on it. You may ask why? Because the entire time the servers never said more than a half sentence to me, to be fair, probably one sentence interactions at most yet the bartender guy greeted and often talked to other people (who may have been friends) who came in. I was asked if I was ready to order several times, which was very nice and attentive on the part of the waiter, but literally no conversation whatsoever, I felt like my table was the flyby table, you know that one that the waiter flies by dropping in saying, "Water?... Refill?... Bill?... To go?" I saw them making conversation with other patrons, so I wasn't sure why it was this way with my meal. Perhaps it was just a coincidence? they were very kind and smiley however so I can't say that it was bad service just a lack there of. I don't think I would return due to the cost not meeting the value of the meal and the items on the menu that I didn't try were way overpriced if the meal I had was any indication of quantity and quality. I can go to the other Mexican restaurant in town and enjoy the exact same meal, enjoy the music, and be treated with kind conversation at the very least for a much better price and same quality of food. read more

OK our first time there. First impressions are some times negative. Not this time. We have places in San Diego/Del Mar, Los Angeles, and Lapine so we've eaten a lot of Mexican food. Seen the good the bad and the ugly. I can't expect food up in Oregon to be as good as the southwest or Chinese food as good as the big cities Chinatowns. Most of the food up here is Americanized. Needless to say for the first week, opening up and serving busy crowds. They did awesome on the service and on the food. I know as time goes on they will get better, but they have the start up blues. I ordered the three chilies. I thought it was fantastic. The only bummer is that I like my Chile Riano's, stuffed with cheese and fluffy, egg white., Their Chile, Riano's, are single-sided flat Stanley's. I hope they improve it. That's the only reason why I took away a star. Big E Dash for effort. I can't wait to try something else. We also ordered the shrimp tacos and the three item combination plate with shredded beef taco Chile, Riano, and enchilada. All were fantastic. By the way, try the prickly pear margaritas.
