I learned today that The Middle and I will be celebrating our first full year in Watertown in July - so we have that in common. Haha. I'm going to need to go back again. I went because I hadn't yet, and... they have the most interesting "pub" menus in the area. I desperately wanted something good - but different. I was hopeful. Started with the lamb lollipops - which I am always up for. They were OK. Tasty. But OK. They're cut very thin, so there is no opportunity to not over cook them and get a nice crust. So my lamb was warm, but the marinade was still slightly slippery. In my opinion, they need to be a 1/4 in thicker, and therefore properly seared. The accompaniment (bread and whipped feta) were fine. But the star of the show was... OK. I then had the blistered shishitos. They were cooked in the deep fryer and topped with everything bagel seasoning. Sounded amazing and tasted good - but the peppers were WAY over cooked. Not burnt, but so soft the tops were almost all falling off when picking up to eat. Again. Not bad. Just...Good. Based on my two appetizers, I decided not to try a burger. I'll wait for another time. Maybe a little later in the day (I ate at noon) when the kitchen may be in the swing of things. The atmosphere smelled and felt like a mid-tier hotel bar and restaurant. Ownership has clearly invested a ton of money into the place. It's spotless clean. Their wine chillers and coffee makers are top of the line. So, the investment and effort is there. But the stark white cold slab bar, bright white hard (not sound absorbing) ceiling, Courtyard by Marriott tables and high tops, and beer/wine video boards made me want to see if my flight was delayed in terminal A and feel oddly in competition with the interest and complexity of the menu. Just weird. I wish I could give 2.5 stars. But I'll go three as the staff was terrific, the menu was interesting, and at least they have the palate and courage to have lamb chops - as many don't. I hope to go back. If I don't, I'll be ok with it. read more

Great lunch location! Good service (friendly, fast and accurate), in an open and nicely decorated environment; unique artwork, decor and tableware (blue instead of boring white!) Much better than the restaurant that previously had this location. We tried the wings, beet salad, rigatoni in pink sauce and a burger! All were very good and we'd have again! We tried this place based on social media sites, and we were glad we did! We got there around 7:30 pm and there was a good crowd in the dining area as well as the bar. The restaurant is Monkey themed, we asked how they got the name and they said like "Monkey in the Middle." They have board games you can play while there too. We ordered some apps, the Chicken Meatballs, Lamp Lollipops, and the Housemade Monster Mozzarella Sticks. We should Have stopped there but we didn't , the food was good and filling! We had placed our dinner order not knowing how filling the apps were going to be. We ordered the Truffalo Friend chicken sandwich with a side of homemade onion rings and the Smashburger. I should have not eaten the chicken sandwich but it looked soooo delicious and it was! I was stuffed The staff was very friendly and the decor was modern w/ monkey portraits. Delicious food with generous portions. Came here with a group of four and we loved every meal and appetizer we ordered. The lamb lollipops were our favorite! I personally loved the mushroom gnocchi which I added blackened chicken to. The ambiance of this restaurant is chic and I love all the Valentines decorations and bathroom. Our only hiccup was our service was extremely slow and multiple times we had to ask another waitress walking by because our waitress was no where to be found. What a wonderful dinner. Everything from the food to the service was top notch. For appetizers, I would recommend the wings and lamb lollipops. The entree portions are very generous. We LOVE this place! My husband, 9 month old son Jack and I have been here at least 5 times in the last month. We cannot stay away! The food and drinks are unreal! Tonight we got the smash burger and the cauliflower appetizer. I will most likely dream of that cauliflower sauce until the next time I go back. The burger is always so flavorful and always cooked perfect. The food always comes out very hot which is important to me. The cocktails are very upscale and you can taste the love and effort that goes in to making them. Every single time we've gone, we've been greeted immediately by their very friendly, attentive staff. The owner Merlinda is constantly going above and beyond and checking to make sure all her guests are happy. 10 out of 10 experience every time we've been! The consistency is everything! What a change from the old place. Bright and welcoming as soon as you walk inside. The bartender was enthusiastic and very friendly. The beer system is great, ensuring an awesome pour every time. Stopped in for dinner at The Middle, as we had been to the two restaurants previously here and were curious about the changes made. Definitely updated and nicely decorated for Christmas. When we walked in there was a little bit of an off putting odor, similar to bathroom cleaner, that we didn't love, but once we were seated it went away. Our server, Devin, was attentive, and food arrived quickly to the table. We found the food to all be pretty average, especially for the prices. My mom had the French onion soup, which she thought was very salty, and she didn't love the cheese they used. My dad had the prime ribeye, which was gristle-y and tough to chew. My husband had the Mac and cheese with truffalo chicken, and the breading of the chicken slid right off and was slimey. He did like the Mac and cheese itself though. I had the gemelli pasta, and some of the pasta was undercooked towards the top of the plate. Being such a thick pasta, I think they may have taken it out too soon. It is always difficult to find healthy good food when traveling. My husband and I had lunch at The Middle last Friday. We were greeted by the nicest of hostesses. It took us awhile to decide as the menu has a ton of great options. I had the Thai crunch salad with blackened shrimp. This salad is HUGE. But filled with fresh veggies, charred jalapenos, and crispy fried shallots. The jumbo shrimp were cooked perfectly and the dressing was light and tasty and did not drown out the veggies. My husband chose the salmon with coconut rice and mixed veggies. Again, large portion of salmon cooked the way he likes and the rice and veggies were a terrific accompaniment. This place is great!! I have to give these guys a shout out for the best braised short ribs I've had!! I get them pretty much everywhere I go and these easily beat out any other restaurant within an hour distance! The menu is great, offering a nice variety! On both visits the service was excellent! Drinks are also pretty good! They have a nice outdoor patio which we are looking forward to frequenting more next season! Probably our new "go to" place, and we are 30 minutes away! I went to the Middle Restaurant on Oct. 05,2024 and had made reservations for 6:15. We arrived at 6:10 and was told that they didn't have a booth for us which I had requested. We waited for 10 minutes to be seated and was seated in the bar where there was loud music playing and we could not hear ourselves talk. We sat there for 15 minutes before a server came over to our table. It was not busy in the restaurant at all. Our server was not knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered our appetizer and asked to have it served first. We received our appetizer and food at the same time as our meals. The presentation was awful, and the food was cold.
