A friend and I decided to take our daughters here out of a sense of 90s / early-aughts nostalgia. First: our server was very nice, but seemed harried (very long waits between visits to our table, and a lot of apologies for the waits, explanations of needing to take care of other things, etc). The manager came by at one point to check on us and assure that service would speed up, which I appreciated, but it continued to be very slow (we were there almost two hours, and we only ordered the cheese, salad, and dessert courses!). The food quality was middling to poor (hard pieces of bread, three pieces of strawberries--essentially things I have in my home pantry), and the bill was outrageously expensive: $200 for four people to eat cheddar cheese dip and chocolate and bananas. You are paying for the unique experience of it, of course (the kids loved when the fire was lit over the chocolate), but it's ultimately unsatisfactory and the ambiance is dated and seems overall tired. (And be warned: you will walk out smelling like steamed meat-- we had to strip down when we got home because our clothes and hair held the smell unbearably!). read more

The food was good but the ambiance left me wanting. First, the food. We got the four course meal and started with the Wisconsin cheddar. It was lovely and really made the vegetables and fruits and breads they provided for dunking taste so much better. The waiter was great too and took time to explain everything. After the obligatory salad, we had the pacific rim and land and sea meat options. The shrimp was delicious, and so was the steak. The duck was just okay, but most all of the meats were enjoyable. We had the chocolate turtle for the last course, and dunking the bananas, marshmallows and strawberries in the warmed up chocolate sauce was a divine treat. Oh, and while the old fashioned was far from the best I have ever had, they were by far the strongest! Kudos to the bartender for not being stingy on the drinks. As for the atmosphere, it could use an upgrade. The seats had ripped cushions and the silverware looked ancient and lacked shine. It looks like a place management no longer cares much about and they are just going through the motions. Never dined at melting pot before and came here for the Columbus restaurant week deal, honestly was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised! The service: Rating 5 stars because of the service. Everyone was super friendly - when we sat down, the manager kindly asked if we could switch tables to accommodate someone with a wheelchair - this was prior to us even eating so it wasn't a huge haul. We happily moved as we just sat and they were so kind and appreciative - coming up to our table multiple times to say thank you & gifting us a pack of chocolate covered strawberries. They didn't need to do that but were so kind. The waiter and even the bus staff were friendly. The food: The Wisconsin cheese fondue was delicious and the cheese pulls were 10/10. The chocolate fondue was the best part - they gave a lot of dipping items for 2 people. I got the steak lovers main meal in the coq au vin sauce - lots of steak for one person and it was fun to cook the food. The meat was fine and they gave you a lot but nothing to write home about. The broth was flavorful but you couldn't taste it as the steak just cooks in it. I would probably go for the grilling option next time. I would come back for the cheese and the chocolate and not get a main course as the cheese was super filling and more flavorful & you can't go wrong with melted chocolate :) The ambiance: this place was an experience as you cook your own food and dip all the goods, would know that you are spending 2-3 hours there depending on how many people! Fair warning this place is pricey but you are paying for the experience and food. Great place for a date night! The Melting Pot is in the basement of another company but they are easy to spot and have plenty of parking around the area. The service is always great the staff is very informative of the menu and process so don't be afraid to ask. This is the second time here and to be honest it's always fun. Wow! This place is one of the best restaurants I have ever been too! We tried the fiesta cheese this time around. It was amazing (very light on spice) but WOW was it good! I tried the melting pot salad again. It was fantastic, fresh and the honey mustard dressing is amazing! We tried the Coq au Vin with various meats. We like the caribbean-like broth better because this one was a bit winey-with a different after taste. It was still good but the other one is better. Lastly, the dark chocolate is simply divine. It was restaurant week and I decided to try something new. The Melting Pot was definitely a unique experience. We started out with the spinach and artichoke dip which was some of the best I have ever had. It was creamy and the fresh spinach blended well. The second course we had chicken, salmon, steak, and shrimp. Let me say this You cook the food yourself. Now I was nervous that I wouldn't know if the meat was cooked to temperature but I struck up courage and listened to the recommended times they gave. I picked grilled because that was my comfort. This is a special occasion restaurant since it is pricey. My husband and I got the 4 courses for $115 total. We got a lot of food so come hungry. We got the fiesta cheese, salad, and I got the land & sea. And then my husband got the Pacific Rim. You each get your own entree. Well the crowd is right on this one. We just had a 20 year anniversary dinner here because I proposed to my wife at the Columbus melting pot over 20 years ago and were looking for an amazing repeat dinner. The filet tastes like a cheap sirloin, literally not edible. The shrimp is tiny and our waitress must have been too busy to make our experience any better. The highlights were the cheese and chocolate, those would be reasons to come and have a snack and a drink but we probably won't be back for dinner. PS. Parking is horrible. My first impression as I stood in front of the hostess stand was that this place is in need of a face lift. It's a bit rundown and dirty. It appeared that some fire doors were removed. The handrail needed a repaint. There's not much care to detail. There was a bin of napkins, an empty wheelchair, a dishwasher basket of silverware all just sitting around the hostess area. All seem like necessary items that could probably live in the back of house somewhere. The waitress did a nice job of explaining the menu. It's a required two-person four course meal with some options for each course. Menu seems pricy, but you're really paying for the table time because this is an hours long affair. But again the area around the table had dusty artwork and wall with some splatter, some ceiling tiles that needed to be replaced. The food was pretty good. The first course was bread and vegetable fondue. We had a guyere that was tasty. The veggies and apple slices seemed fresh. Next course, salad. Not necessary, but there were four salad options all seemed pretty good. I had the house salad and it was nothing special, but I have no complaints. The entree options were pretty good. I got "the classic" a variety of meats and shrimp and complimentary veggies. This we boiled in a wine broth. For boiled meat it was ok. But it is was a bit distracting in a party of four to cook a dozen different things at different times. They give suggested cook times that are way too long. If you ignore them you can cook a decent meal. Final course: fondue chocolate. It was delicious because it's impossible for fondue chocolate to be anything else. Not bad. I've seen some not so great reviews of this specific location - but I have no complaints! We made a reservation online for a Saturday and we were seated within 5 minutes or so after checking in. There are stairs going down to the restaurant but I was told they do have an elevator as well if stairs aren't for you! The weekends are of course the busiest time so making a reservation is a good idea. From what I could see it looked like they were well staffed and knew what they were doing for being so busy! Everyone was very friendly. We did the four course dinner for two. We ordered the bourbon bacon cheddar cheese, house salads, the Pacific Rim + Steak lovers for the entree, and s'mores chocolate for our dessert. I should have taken more pictures but I was too busy! I think our total was around $115 which is what the website says as well for the four course for two. I would give yourself 2 - 2.5 hours to be there - so don't go if you're in a rush because that's just not the way it works. Checking out the menu before you go to have an idea on what they have is definitely a good idea and makes the decision making easy once you're there. It is a bit of a darker restaurant but the lighting is just right above your table I would say. I didn't go to the bar myself but they do have cute bar area that you can go to and the drink menu looked good as well. I did see quite a few tables with younger kids but personally I would not take kids myself as it could probably end up messy with everything you get. I do recommend this place and will go back! - Always be considerate of restaurant staff as many places are very busy and very understaffed these days. I had not been to a Melting Pot in like 15 years, and my wife had never been, so decided to go on a long weekend in Columbus, on March 24, 2023. We took the earliest reservation available....8:45 pm. Ok...last minute reservation, weekend evening, no big deal. We get there a bit early and finally get seated...and then wait another 25 minutes before anyone will even take our order. Literally had to chase down our waiter just to put an order in. All of the parking I the area is Metered parking for like 1 hour max. So about 9:30, before our Main dish comes out, I go to feed the meter, leaving my cell phone at the table with my wife...I'm going to be gone like 3 min max. I come back to the restaurant, and the doors are locked....I can't get back in. I knock. I bang. I literally pick up some rocks by the front door and start banging on the doors and windows, trying to get someone to let me in. No response at all. Finally, 15 min later, another Patron leaving the restaurant let's me in. I get back to the table, and the Main dish has been sitting there for 10 min, with my wife bewildered on what took so long. So I ask to speak to the Manager....and out comes this condescending little pr*ck, who looks to be all of 25, who basically tells me that he has to lock the door, and I should have taken my cell phone. And proceeded to shake his sweaty dreadlocks over all of our food. His response...."I have to lock the doors sometime". Here's an idea, how about not 15 minutes after you take a reservation, with no one watching the door to let Patrons back in. I don't think it's too much to ask that if you are going to lock out patrons who are paying $170 for a meal, how about having someone up front to let them in? Or a $15 Camera? Or a freaking sign saying "doors are locked at 9....please bring your phone to call this number if you need to get back in." Overall an interesting experience! Something fun to try once.. and only once. We were sat in a corner in the back of the restaurant. At first it seemed nice for privacy, but I feel like they forgot about us .. Our server really struggled the entire time wether it was forgetting to bring the food to dip in the fondue, or leaving things at our table and forgetting to grab them, or most importantly never refilling our drinks even after being asked. I have to admit the food is interesting... I really enjoyed the cheese we got the spinach artichoke and chocolate (yin & yang) portions. I wouldn't mind coming back for that. The meat was interesting .. you boil your meat in a pot of broth. Imagine eating boiled chicken ... And for the salad ... you can't really mess up a salad, it was good! I know a lot of people didn't know you have to cook the entrée yourself, I felt it was intended in the name. Just as a heads up, you do have to cook your own meats! They bring over a selection of raw meat and there is a book with cooking times at the table! Overall if you want to spend the money for the experience I wouldn't steer you away however I guarantee you will only be satisfied with half your meal. Ok let's start off with I'm not a fondue guy at all. Did I say I don't like dipping stuff in cheese or chocolate and eating it? However, my wife loves it and it's our anniversary so i went for her (no I didn't kick and scream). Usually she comes with friends because she knows I don't like it at all. With that said I'm her husband so I went with a smile. We sat in our cubby corner and I ordered a long island ice tea to help me get past this. She ordered and told her get what you want don't worry about me. She did so with a huge smile. I watched her light up so I said to myself "cool everything will be alright" and I took a sip of my beverage closed my eyes and asked God to help me. The server was very kind and helpful. The place was very clean and low light. It was extremely quite. On to the food... The cheese was very good. For me when you add bacon to anything it greatly improved it. The veggie tray was just what it is... VEGGIES! The steam blew in my face the entire time. So I told myself when we leave my skin is going to be radiant. So I leaned in closer. The salad came next and the house dressing is a honey mustard base. I looked at my wife and the smile was still there so I smiled while I added the garlic wine seasoning and ate the salad. Next the broth came with the meat. I ordered another long island and smiled. Salmon shrimp chicken and steak. She stuck it and placed it in the boiling broth and the smell lite up our cubby whole. My stomach started to grawl and mouth started to water. I took a large pull on my long island and waited for the protein to finishing cooking. While it was cooking i sampled each of the sauces. The teriyaki sauce was the best for me. The salmon was ready first. It's was very juicy and melted when I placed it in my mouth. I added a little teriyaki to it and my smile looked like my wife's. The chicken was next. The broth kept it moist and the garlic kick was right on time. I take another pull of my long island and my smile continues. The steak was next. Pulling it out if the broth the smell was amazing. Took a small bite and it was a little chewy but had good flavor. I dipped the remaining in the blue cheese sauce and it made it come alive. Now I'm happy bouncing at the table like a toddler in a kids chair. Now it was time to dip the potato in the broth and then quickly get it in my belly. Splash it was very good. The shrimp was average. The salmon and chicken were the star of the night along with the teriyaki sauce and my beverage. Desert... It was the best part. If you ask for more they will keep bringing. The Belgian waffles were my fav. After the 3rd time he just brought out of bowl of them for me. If you don't like rich chocolate try the bananas fosters it's not as rich. In closing is this a place I would bring a friend from out of town? If they like small portion and have never had the experience I would. If not you will leave hungry. I talked with the manager and they told me this melting pot is a training one. They experiment with different flavors to get feed back and then send it out to the rest of the locations. The Melting Pot is my favorite and it's a great venue to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, a promotion or just a random Tuesday date night! I always try and get in during a Restaurant Week as it's a little cheaper and you have the same experience except with a set menu, which is fine for me because their event menus always offer a little bit of their best selling options. My boyfriend & I were unable to get in during RW, but being on their email list I got word that they were having a $30/person event on April 30. I immediately made a reservation for us to go after work on the Open Table app. The cheese fondue and dippers make me happy. The dipping sauces including--green goddess, ginger plum sauce, curry, gorgonzola port & teriyaki--make me happy. Adding a lobster tail to my entree for $12.95 makes me happy. I love The Melting Pot and I always have a great experience. Yes, it's pricey and it takes about 2 hours for the cheese, salad, entree & dessert fondue to go down, but it's so much fun. Then we got salads which were like your typical salad. Next we had the big night out in the coq au vin. This was absolutely terrible. The seasoned meat lost its seasoning when you put it in the cooking pot. The coq au vin did not give it any good flavor. This was by far the most disappointing part. The sauces were all bad-average. Next we got the pure chocolate fondue. This was just like a pot of chocolate I could melt at home but what did I expect. It was decent. Overall, probably would never come back here. We had a great time last night at The Melting Pot. We had a late reservation for 2, and the hostess was able to get us a corner booth a little bit away from the main area and felt private, which was nice. We ended up getting the experience for 2, which includes cheese fondue, 2 entrees in fondue, salads and chocolate fondue dessert. My favorite was the classic alpine cheese, which was infused with white wine. I also ended up getting a local flight sampler of wine, which was a terrific deal. We tried to go as traditional in our fondue ordering as possible this time (ex getting coq au vin, strictly dark chocolate) and next time we'll likely try to mix things up a bit. Extra points to our server Katie, who was super friendly, welcoming and on top of our order. Also the staff was kind enough not to rush us out at the end of the night, even though we overstayed closing time by a bit. My friends and I have come to this spot since we were in HS and we have always had a great time. The whole experience of dipping and cooking the food at your table is so fun and the food was delicious! This time we went we did the four course meal starting off with the Fiesta cheese fondue. It had been off the menu for several years so we were so happy to see its return! It is a super flavorful cheese with a nice kick from the jalapeño. My friends love dipping the breads, while my favorites are the apples and broccoli. Next, we each ordered salads. I got the California Salad, while my friends got Caesar Salads. We all enjoyed them a lot! We particularly liked the nuts on each of them. For our meat course we ordered the classic and the steak lovers. The classic comes with chicken, shrimp, pork, and steak; while the steak lovers comes with a lot of steak. You skewer the meats yourself and they provide a sheet with cooking times so you know how long to leave them in there. I loved how the meats came out and really enjoyed several of the dipping sauces. My two favorites were the Green Goddess and the Curry-type sauce. We got the standard Court Bouillon veggie broth to cook and it was good. Lastly, we finished with the Yin Yang chocolate for dessert, and the staff was nice enough to put candles in our pound cake to celebrate some recent accomplishments of my group. Tonight was my first visit to Melting Pot and it was underwhelming to say the least. It was during restaurant week so was busy, but the service was somewhat slow and the food was mediocre. I could tell the biggest selling point is the unique fondu experience that people come here and pay for. Let me first start by complimenting the lady at the front of the house handling reservations. There was a very rude couple who didn't have reservations, but claims they did. The young lady working the desk was extremely polite and handled the situation the best she could with a very difficult man who didn't understand his reservations worked. They typically say the experience takes around 2 hours max. For us, it took a little over an hour and a half. Part of that I know was restaurant week, but the other part was just the waitress going MIA for sometimes 15-20 minutes. The first course, cheese fondue, was ok. The bread, veggies, and other items we were do dunk it were basically all piled together in a small plate. The 2nd course, was basically where you cook your own meets. While the experience was neat, Not sure it fit the mold of what should be an entree course. Finally, the dessert course is what lead propping this review up. It was very good with a very nice selection of small desserts to dip. Overall, we paid $35 per person because of restaurant week and I felt that to be a little high for what we got. Last night I went to the Melting Pot and it was absolutely delicious. I have been once before it was also amazing then too. When we arrived we didn't have a reservation and we got sat down in 2-3 minutes, didn't wait long at all. Our server was fantastic. He was professional, helpful and positive the whole time, he brought all our dishes out on time and at a good pace along with our drinks. You get so much for you money. There is no doubt you'll leave feeling so full and like it was well worth it. I got a "love martini" and I highly recommend, I've had a few not so great ones but I'm happy to say if you like martinis and strawberry's this is the drink to get, it was $9. We also got a pitcher of the strawberry sunshine and it was so well made, I love it, it was $10 a glass or $32 a pitcher. I couldn't believe when our chocolate fondue came out it actually looked like yin & yang. Just a great experience all the way around. You select your courses in order, at your pace -either all at once or as you move through the courses. First, the cheese course. Served with apples, blanched broccoli, raw baby carrots, and chunks of bread. Second, a salad course; affectionately considered the only course you don't dunk into a hot vat of scalding substance. Third, your entree cooking liquid and protein of choice. Essentially a boiling broth laced with oil, wine, and/or seasonings to cook the protein(s) and assorted vegetables for your main course. Fourth and finally, the type of chocolate you wish to dip oddly diced processed desserts and fruit into for dessert. The quality of food is above average but the price does not reflect the quality. You are paying for an exceptional experience with moderately good ingredients which also involves a lot of orchestration - I'm just not dazzled by the experience. Once a decade is about right for me. Very disappointed. The prices are extremely high and the food was so-so. The spinach artichoke cheese had very little flavor, who dips raw carrots in hot cheese? The yin yang drink was bland and flavorless. The hostess wasn't friendly, waiter was good as was the manager. The were very considerate of my celiac which was appreciated. Attempted to make reservations online, however the online system tells you to call the location. Ok no biggie, phone number provided goes straight to a full voicemail without ringing during their posted business hours. Tried at different times, same results. When you can't even reach an employee much less a manager how truly horrible of a first impression much less how could we trust your ability to deliver safe food in a timely manner with good customer service?
