I've loved the Max since my 21st birthday. I've gone there frequently since then. I have been kicked out for getting too drunk. They gave me a 90 day ban and when I went back, I slowed my roll. Here's the thing though. You get poured the HEAVIEST drinks there, and the bartenders do not cut you off. I'm not saying that's an excuse, because we are adults, and I am not disregarding my faults but I believe they need to start cutting people off. I went last weekend and didn't drink as much as I normally do until me and my friend completely blacked out at the same time after we took our drinks. They kicked me out for being "too drunk". I went to the ER and tested positive for the date rape drug. Me and my boyfriend went to speak to the bar manager to inform him of what had happened and to provide my proof of being drugged, along with my Ethanol level (which was under the legal driving limit, might I add) he (the bar manager) immediately stopped and said that it's a party drug insinuating that I voluntarily took this drug. Then proceeded to say that maybe my friend (also a regular) drugged not only me, but herself. He then said that I had glass after glass in my hand throughout the night. Not considering the fact that I babied 2 Redbull Vodkas the whole night, and that it wasn't possible they were the same ones. (Oh, the best part is that the main security made me call my boyfriend to come get me that night because I was being harassed by a guy) So while my boyfriend and him had a calm conversation, the F word slipped out and we got banned and barred from The Max. The weird thing is I didn't say a single thing and he wouldn't even look at me while he was talking about me. I even started to walk away and he made me come back to give my ID to the police officer. I do not know this man, and for some reason I have been targeted. I've heard from multiple people that they have been drugged there and they always get kicked out for even mentioning it. Sounds to me like they're trying to protect their name. If anything they're ruining it. You'd think with them having multiple police officers there, and security that they would care more about people's safety. I'm a pretty easy going person, and don't normally post reviews, or even bad reviews but I find this extremely ridiculous by the way I was talked about and treated. It's a fun place, and I can't say I didn't enjoy it but I advise everyone to make sure you don't get drugged there because it's your fault and you will get banned. I used to love the Max, a very fun friendly gay bar. With really good music on the techno floor & its the place to be on saturday. BUT They have a hiphop dance floor which attracts a lot of sketchy, ghetto people who get drunk and get into fights, within the past couple of months there have been MANY fights due to the ghetto people who go to the max. It's mostly black, mexican people on the hiphop side & then on the techno floor its just all the gay people. My friend who is gay was at the wrong place at the wrong time, Him and his friend got jumped right outside the Max but a bunch of black guys. The smashed my friends face in causing his left cheek bone to break into pieces, and his friend got cut above the eye with a broken beer bottle. This last friday there was also a lesbian who got her has banged up against a wall several times by some straight girl, and they also had to close early that day due to ANOTHER bar fight which involved a stabbing of a young man. They closed at midnight, right after it happened. I hate that those ghetto people RUINED the Max experience. I no longer feel safe at all there. After hearing all this, I haven't been back since my friend got into that fight. I would have rated the Max with 5 stars but since they will probably NEVER get rid of the hiphop dance floor it will forever be tainted with ghettoness. NO THANK YOU! read more

I pay the $5 cover for me and 2 others. I hand the doorman $20 and ask for a $5 back. The doorman replies with the rudest, most cruel attitude possible, "I know what you get back, lady, I've been doing this for 20 f---in years." This hostile first encounter summarizes the Max experience in a nutshell. The floors are simply disgusting. Don't wear open-toed shoes. The music hasn't changed in 10 years and it still blows. The DJ transitions are jarring, the songs aren't seamlessly mixed in with each other, and careless key changes between tracks often produce a high-pitched dissonant whine that is literally painful on the ears. The bathrooms are in a perpetual state of disrepair. The stall doors that don't close, toilets that don't flush, sinks that don't turn off. The staggering crowd of drunk people are just awful to be around. I have to be on constant guard from aggressive, gropey men. Some shirtless guy is walking around with unambiguous neo-Nazi tattoos all over his body. I know the Max management reading this right now are saying "we can't control the behavior of a bunch of drunk people in our establishment." Yes you can. Clubs all over the country actively practice crowd control to weed out the bad actors all the time. Figure it out. Everyone else, take your money elsewhere. You're not gonna have a good time at the Max. read more

This club is by far one of the best places to go if you're looking to go out to a safe place where you don't have to worry about the normal issues you will have at most clubs/bars. The staff are very inviting and welcoming and will make sure you end up having a good time everytime you walk through their door. During my time there last Saturday night a girl that was with our group threw up by the bar and the staff/security helped clean her up and get her outside where they made sure she had a ride and would get home safe. It was really cool to see them care more about her safety than just trying to push her outside like I have seen many bars/clubs do in the past. The atmosphere is fun, bar is clean and drinks taste great!!! Would definitely recommend it to any and all looking for a fun night out that you'll be sure to remember!! Only knocks I have on the place is the fact that they are really strict with their ID checks and will turn you away if it is expired or cracked. Also wish they would stay open until 2am as they close early at 1:30am but maybe that's why they don't normally have a lot of issues here due to the early close. read more

I wouldn't give this drug infested dive one star but sadly it's the lowest rating next to zero stars. I was appalled going into the bathroom and seeing people snorting lines of coke off the backs of the toilets. I go upstairs to use the bathroom it's blocked off and I had to go down the creepy hallway and up these steps where I was told I had to strip down to my underwear. I was going upstairs to use the bathroom, not to get naked before going into the bathroom. I walk into the upstairs and see all the guys including the bartender wearing nothing but underwear. I go into the bathroom to use the toilet and what I seen was far worse than seeing people snorting lines of coke off the back of the toilet. I never imagined people would have sex in the bathroom at a bar. I will not go back in there again because of that, and because it is run down, tired, outdated, and in the need of a face lift/make over. The decor/decorations, and all the furniture are out dated as well. Every thing in there is from the 1980's. It's sad how people think that this run place down can be the greatest place in Omaha. read more

Unfortunately, this establishment has a history of racism, transphobia, harassment, and discrimination that has run deep for many years. So called "America's best gay bar", when it is hardly a gay bar at this point with the amount of pandering to straight audiences. Along with this, when it comes to the drag shows they host, they do not adequately pay the entertainment that promotes their establishment and spends countless hours and money preparing what they perform. Typically 20$. With the money they make from the straight audiences that come to dance, you would think they would be able to pay their entertainment that take time out of their schedules to help the bar make money. As for myself, I will not be a patron of the Max until they change their policies with diversity and sensitivity trainings for their staff, and a public statement addressing the things they have allowed to happen in the past. They have failed to listen to their patrons, or their regulars. Some of which called this bar home. Hopefully they can learn and improve on these issues. read more

DO NOT DO NOT GO TO THIS CLUB!!! They will physically remove you and your partner (male or female) as soon as the club closes. They will sell you drinks even when they know they will be removing you within minutes of serving them. I witnessed them physically remove a male (chocking him) and physically removing a female (through force and chocking her) I can very this as I witnessed this recently (photos available). The female and her fingernails were bleeding after she she was removed. Her partner was chocked out fighting to keep her from being physically violated. I know there are few places to enjoy an evening in Omaha but you need to avoid this place. read more

Horrible service! Went there for my birthday and was verbally assaulted by a man who was receiving oral from a woman in the ladies room. He said he was an employee there and it was Nebraska law that I couldn't take my shoes off in the bathroom (I was cleaning a spilled drink off my heels). He then started harassing me on my appearance, like a middle schooler would. I'm not aware of any such law but if you're an employee at this place then you should have more decorum and not get your d**k sucked in the ladies room. Very crass and disgusting. If I could use 0 stars I would. Usually I don't want to complain this much but after tonight I'm done. We were on the bigger dance floor and a WHITE MALE individual had assaulted a POC and then was kept "safe" by the management. I let them know about this individual the day before and they admitted having issues with him and STILL let him in. I'll no longer be supporting this establishment. There is throwback, parliament, and T-hereys right around the corner so don't be afraid to explore more of Omaha that's NOT a bigot. read more

I'm definately not a fan of paying cover by any means. But this might be the exception. I know this place has been around for years and have heard that it can be a bit scary at times so I've stayed away. A few friends decided to go down and I finally made it out. Holy cow its as good as it gets for any city. I believe 4 seperate bars, and 2 dance floors and an amazing outdoor courtyard. Drinks seem a bit weak, but prices weren't unresonable. I've usually had fun there if I'm in the mood for it, but in my experience the bar service is extremely inconsistent. We went to The Max during a bus party for some cause that is lost to memory. The drinks were a little pricey, but the cover was low. The dance floor was awesome, although it was a little crowded. The courtyard is beautiful. I'd agree that if you have a problem with the crowd this bar was built for, stay out! I'm straight and I didn't have a problem with what was going on around me! read more

This is a great place to dance. I even met a very friendly girl that decided to kiss me in the bathroom. You can go for a fun evening and be who you are and nobody judges. (at least not out loud) I have been several times and always had a great time. read more

Each time I visit the Max I have a great time, I can say is my favorite club i visited in Omaha. You have a good time, good service at the bar with almost any drink you can ask for. Overall I highly remand the max on your visits to Omaha! read more

Had the pleasure of attending a super spreader event for Halloween. Staff did not care to enforce a public health mask mandate, but were quick to remind me they're "420 unfriendly". Sadly not as progressive as it claims to be. read more
