    Empty no one dancing

Getting racist vibes from this place now. Used to be a great place to come and dance on a Saturday night the DJ tonight lied and claimed "Omaha" put a ban on hip hop music in clubs. So he can play his music no one can dance to. If he didn't want to play music to dance to he could have just said that. To say they don't want to play hip hop music to avoid "attracting a certain type" doesn't seem very inclusive for a gay nightclub.

The Max never disappoints! This club has been a must go to in Omaha for almost 40 years. Clean, modern, hi tech lighting and sound! FIVE STARS!

The only true club in Omaha, with multiple dance floors you can have truly let loose after a long week here and know you're gonna have fun.

Stopped in on the 21st. Bartenders were rude. Drinks overpriced. I though most of the reviews were wrong. But they are 100% correct

It's part of the background noise of mundane forces at work to undermine quality adult entertainment everywhere like bad lighting, corn syrup and YA literature. Then there are also gay bars like The Omaha Mining Company where that hostile background buzz evaporates like someone turned off the fluorescents at the office. Located on Leavenworth in the sweet spot between Douglas County Jail and urban blight, The Omaha Mining Company has been a home to the local gay community, in one form or another, since the late-60s. It was on the fringe and still is. Thankfully, it's a much safer fringe now than it once was because street parking gets tight on the weekends. Use a spotter or carpool because many of the spaces across Leavenworth are reserved for law enforcement. Inside, The Mining Company has a fun, inclusive, working-class dive bar feel. Of course there is the humor one hopes to find at their friendly, all-inclusive, neighborhood: street signs that read as double entendres in their current context: Elevated manhole, 69th Street, Rainbow Boulevard. It's PFLAG-family friendly bar fun for all. If you've never been or just haven't been in awhile, it's worth checking out. My first trip back to The Mining Company since 2013 was inspired by an invitation to a Youth Emergency Services charity event by Drew Dietz, president of Big O! Bears and featuring celebrity guest Mr. North American Bear 2017, A.J. Perdew. The place was packed with people and positive vibes. The staff was hustling and harried, but never rude. The clientele, many sporting harnesses, could not have no been more welcoming.   One of the best features of The Omaha Mining Company came about six years ago when a rear storage area was converted into a most impressive dance floor. Encompassing three stories and the width of the building, this beautiful, mirrored space is large enough to work as an entirely separate venue for shows.    Knowing people has its privileges. To wit, President Dietz gave me a tour of The Mineshaft, The Omaha Mining Company's basement sanctum. The Mineshaft is not for everyday use. It's a special events/party room just this side of a speakeasy. It resembles nothing so much as a 70s era rumpus room for swingers, perfect for gear night, club meeting, socials or just hanging with the fellas. Besides the bears at the bar were beers on tap: Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top, Stella Artois, Stella Artois Cidre, Michelob Ultra, Goose Island IPA and Woodchuck. Pitchers are only $7.75. Bottles of Bud, Bud Light, Brunette Nut Brown and Summit Seasonal are $4. Corona, Modelo, Best Damn Root Beer, Oskar Blues Old Chubb, Heineken and Sam Adams are $4.75. Happy hours are Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays free pool, Wednesday's karaoke is from 8 to 12. Second Saturdays are Gear Night and every 4th Saturday is Bear Bar in The Mineshaft.

It's a very old school, western, and rustic type of vibe. There's a sense of rugged individualism, resilience, and Western identity. Cowboys are a big part of the theme here, hence the brand name, The Drover. Various murals of impersonations of these vaqueros plaster the walls. The lounge area gives off old mafia movie feels, as you can picture how it could be filled with clouds of cigar smoke as mafioso Capos & soldiers belly-up to the dark bar sipping on their Scotch. Once the drinks start flowing and you get relaxed then the magic starts! You won't be disappointed in the Old Fashioned, or any other type of cocktail for that matter. The fresh baked bread comes out first with a significant portion of spread butter, which is absolutely delicious! Then you realize, that this place actually still has an old school salad bar. Like as soon as I seen the salad bar with all the fixings and the homemade Thousand Island dressing, I was hooked! Finding an open buffet style salad bar these days is as rare as finding a good woman who cooks and cleans. They're like unicorns. The Drover has several cuts of meat to select from. You honestly can't go wrong with the cut that you choose. They have seafood selections as well, just in case you want to get your Surf 'N Turf on. There's one thing that you can definitely say about this place, and that's the fact that it's a no-frills type of joint. They don't waste any time with any fluff. It's strictly meat & potatoes...literally. You won't find any bartenders here doing stupid bottle tricks and begging for clicks like they do out in Vegas. Instead you'll find Tony, who just keeps the glasses full with the concoctions that you wish to imbibe on. One of the female bartenders would fit right in at home in NYC as she drops an F-bomb or two. But, I'm no Karen, so I welcome the realness. She stated, "it's so fucking hot in here", as the bar fills up and the workers get slammed! Now onto the main course: I went with the 8oz Filet and the loaded baked potato. It was delicious! Simple, tasty, and loaded with flavor. They're famous for their secret "whiskey marinade" recipe. The baked potato comes out still wrapped in its foil, which will bring back memories of when your dad would cook them on an open flame charcoal grill. Did I mention the butter? I think I ate enough butter to kill a baby cow! And, I still couldn't get enough. Overall, this place is the epitome of Midwest Steakhouses. It gets right to the point and its customers will appreciate that! One guest told the bartender that he's not from Omaha, but every time he comes into town he comes directly to The Drover to eat dinner. He stated, "I've been coming here for 28 years". Later adding, "except for the years it was burnt down". Another female bartender quickly corrected him, "it was only shutdown for 9 months". Well, when your favorite restaurant is closed for any amount of time, "it felt like years", I added, as we all got a good laugh. As one old timer who came to sit at the bar said, "this is our favorite place". Well...old cowboy, I can see why. And, just like any Old Western movie, The Drover packs a serious punch. Pro tip: they open for dinner at 5:00pm, so get here early, unless you have Reservations of course. I got there at 4:55pm, no reservation, sat at the open bar, which is first come first serve and by 5:40 the place was packed! And, this was on a Wednesday.
