My first experience was horrible. This was recommended to me by a neighbor. My brother and his wife were visiting from Florida, so i invited them and and my elderly parents over for takeout. the menu looks really good and I was happy to note they delivered. I ordered online before 2pm for a 6:15 delivery--I wanted to make sure dinner was here when my family got here. First, the delivery people called saying some orders were not available, then they said i had ordered it for delivery asap when I know I ordered it for 6:15 because thats when my family was coming. Well, long story short, 6:45, we are all still sitting around waiting for the food, I check my phone, no calls. I finally call the delivery people and they said they "emailed me" that the restaurant was not doing delivery after all. WHAT???? First of all, why didnt they tell me the first time, second why would you NOT call when you know the customer is waiting for the food to arrive--do they think we are sitting in from our laptops checking our emails? NO!! I was waiting for a phone call at the least saying they were running late! I have never had such a bad experience and I haven't even tasted the food! My whole family was hungry and I had to quickly make a fast order--went with NEED Pizza--YUM and thank you to the NEED Pizza staff and delivery person--they totally came through and even gave me credit from my order because one of the pizza toppings had slid off the pizza a bit. This MAP room? Nothing, not even a phone call. I order out all the time, and they missed a potential new regular customer, but hey, maybe they are doing so well they dont really care. The Map Room is on the small side but don't let that fool you, they know what they're doing. The campania appetizer is delicious! You can tell that they have thought out their menu. Their drinks are delicious as well. Give them a try if you haven't stopped in yet. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, that feels like a cross between Cheers and an English pub. Plus the food is great I love the veggie burger and fries. Best of all the beer selection is top notch, lots of awesome Iowa brews with some quality IPAs among them. read more

I have been to the map for many times and have absolutely loved it. All of it. Tonight I went and I was super disappointed I brought a friend who was also disappointed. Service drinks food were all very mediocre in fact not very good. I am a foodie and go to places I really enjoy. But I'm not sure I'll be back if this doesn't change. New staff? Good gourmet style burger, patty was hand made and good. The banh mi (Vietnamese) burger was ok, pretty bland though. Did not have a real Vietnamese flavor. Other options looked ok. The real 3 stars is for the beer selection on tap. Pretty mediocre for a beer bar, only about 15 taps and only 1-2 good local beers. Maybe my bar is high but it seemed underwhelming. Another locally owned hidden gem!! Wasn't sure what to expect from a place that is located in one of the oldest dive bar buildings in downtown. WOW!!! They are operating on all levels!! The inside is warm, welcoming and feels like "Norm" could walk through any moment. The menu is limited to burgers done a lot of ways. That is okay. They really know how to be creative ! I had the Santa Fe without the hamburger. It was a bun stuffed with green chili, pulled pork and queso Fresca. Amazing!! The others at our table ordered burgers with everything from a fried egg on it to plan. Decided to check out The Map Room after several friends mentioned the great meals they had there. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and was clean. We ordered the Santa Fe fries and they were delicious. The fries were perfectly crunchy and the green chili and pork were outstanding. I had the Memphis burger with fries. My burger was juicy and the pork was not over sauced. I did substitute cheddar for the American cheese. My daughter had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese was golden, crispy and gooey, everything you want for grilled cheese. The tomato soup was another winner, not salty and tastes homemade. We brought our teen and toddler with us and were very pleased they were so accommodating our picky toddler and did so enthusiastically. We will be back again soon. read more

The hubby and I were celebrating the 24th anniversary of our first date yesterday and wanted to try some place new. I found the Map Room on Yelp and the menu sounded fun. It was pretty empty when I walked in and the bartender indicated I should seat myself. He asked how many and I said two as the hubby was parking the truck. The waitress stopped by a couple of times before the hubby got there to make sure I had everything I needed. Once the hubby got settled the waitress was back to take our drink orders and go over the menu with us. She was very patient and answered all of our questions. I ordered the Memphis burger with the pulled pork on the side because I don't care for pork but the hubby does. I upgraded my fries to Montreal and the gravy of the day was mushroom. The hubby ordered the New Orleans burger and upgraded his fries to Milwaukee. Shortly after we placed our order the place really started to fill up. The waitress never missed a beat. I never saw her write anything down but our order came exactly as we requested. She was extremely attentive and checked on us frequently. The food was delicious. The hubby and I agree the 1/4 burgers are the perfect size. Their Bloody Mary's are very good as well. Loved the atmosphere. Out of 10 the service was a 15. We don't get to CR very often but we are already talking about out next trip to the Map Room. read more

We stopped here for a drink before a concert, and ended up sharing a burger and loaded fry appetizer (the Marrakesh burger and Cusco fries). Well come to find out that this place did an amazing job of delivering fast, and delicious food without breaking the bank. This is an amazing place! My wife and I came in for lunch and ordered the grilled cheese with a house salad, the grilled cheese was perfectly grilled with 3 cheeses and the house salad was an amazing mix of greens and squash(?). Our waitress was great with drink selections and even went beyond to tell us the mixers and amounts they used in one of the house specialty drinks. Unexpectedly nice dining experience. Perhaps the menu attempts to be a little too trendy, but at least it has unusual options. Would appreciate a few normal options appearing on the menu. Beer is slightly high $, but there are some lowbrau options that cost less. Good service when I was there. Too bad they can't both expand their outdoor seating AND isolate it from the noise of third street (I suppose a CR downtown motorcycle muffler noise ordinance is out of their hands at the Map Room). read more

The map room is a great bar and a decent place to eat. The bar has many local and regional microbrew options some of which are on tap. This was a surprise considering the size of the bar which I would estimate seats about 30 patrons comfortably. In addition, they managed to stock an impressive variety of liquors and mixers into a somewhat cramped bar space. The burgers are good and have a lot of innovative topping options for a nice change of pace. I tried the new orleans and it was very tasty. It was twelve dollars with a side of fries. They build the toppings up on a single patty which allows enough room between the buns for a edible sandwich. I still needed several napkins to clean my face off so be prepared. For value I would go with the double patty option and no toppings. The different flavors are nice for a change of pace but don't really change the fact that you are eating a burger. The fries were the right ratio of crispy to soft and the portion size was decent-roughly the same as a large size at a fast food place. If you like your fries I recommend ordering an appetizer portion on the side. read more

This place is outstanding! The bartender Jeff was amazing- super knowledgeable about the history of drinks and able to whip up creative concoctions on a whim that are out of this world delicious! He's probably one of the best bartenders I've come across anywhere in our travels. His passion for food and drink is to the advantage of the guest.
