The pizza is exceptional. I read the reviews and came in to try their white. I built my own, so added sausage and mushrooms. The crust is amazing with a hint of sweetness, and the white sauce was very tasty. It accompanied the mushrooms and sausage perfectly. This was my second visit to Need Pizza, and somehow it was even more fabulous than the first. Not only do they create true culinary delights with their pizzas, but the service and friendliness of the staff are truly unmatched. I love that they constantly rotate their pizza of the week. Even when I'm hesitant because it's something I've never tried before, I find myself excited and eager to go for it--because everything here is consistently a 10. After experiences like this, it's hard not to trust every specialty pizza they put out. Our server, Lexi, was absolutely on point--friendly, so personable . They also let you sample any beer you're curious about, which I really appreciate. I tried the Cotton Candy beer, and it was over-the-moon good. I'm not a big beer drinker at all, and I honestly couldn't believe it was beer. I also got to sample the drinks my party ordered--wow. Every visit, there are new beers on tap. You might miss one and wish it was still around, but the ever-rotating selection is just another reason this place is such a delight. My favorite pizza place. As soon as you walk in the door, the roasty tomatoe smell from their sauce hits you. It has a great ambiance, warm and friendly. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of craft beers for those of us beer lovers as well as cocktails. The choices of pizza toppings in amazing and their gluten free crusts are good. Although my gluten free friends tell me you want to request that they be cooked a little longer to crisp them up. I am especially fond of their Caesar salad. It actually has anchovies on it! My first venture into New Haven style pizza and I don't know if I can go back. The restaurant is a dim lit kind of dive pizzeria with several beers on tap. Service was great and the waiter was pretty good at making the rounds, making sure I was attended to. I was going to order the large but he insisted to get the medium knowing the pie was going to be too big. (I should have ordered the large! ). When the pie came out, everything about this pizza was a step above any slice I've ever had. I'm a uge fan , that's right "UGE" fan of Dave Portnoy 1 slice pizza review and have been dying to try the NH style type of pizza. I ordered a medium (which was uge btw) pep pizza and it came out within 10 mins. Each slice had zero flop and a beautiful undercarriage! The dough had that true charcoal oven fired tasted and the pepperoni cups were crisp and spicy! The thing that really elevated this pizza for me was that after taken it back to the hotel and microwaving it, (it lost some of it structure) but the crust was still pretty crispy! How am I'm suppose to go back to Texas now knowing this kind of slice exists!?! The food choices were great. I opted for an appetizer of the bread stick bites which were delicious. The seasoning added to the already delectable dish. My main course was an individual build your own pizza. I opted for pepperoni and mushroom. Thin crust is how they made it and it didn't fail to impress. It was rather tasty and crispy like I would expect thin crust to be. Service was great. My server Kristi, I think I spelled it right, seated me right away and went over how their pizza is build your own and they style which they call NewHaven. Picked out the best pizza place on Yelp in cedar rapids and gave it a try. Ordered online you know how much I love doing that. I ordered large pizza and a salad. The salad was very good. The dressing was delicious and there are plenty of tomatoes croutons cucumbers carrots. The pizza was okay the crust was what I would consider a New York style crust. Just the right amount of chew and char on the crust. Plenty of cheese. A little light on the sausage. I deducted one star from the rating based on the fact that when we picked up the carryout order they did not give us a salad and I had to send my wife back in to get the salad that we ordered. Had heard of "Need Pizza" in June when I went down to Iowa City with my friend for her birthday--we had stopped with the party bus and we were on a time limit so didn't have time to order and wait for a pizza :( Fast forward to a few days ago, we had the chance to stop by as we were on our way home from Wisconsin, and we were so excited as we had heard GREAT things. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype :( The pizza was like something that could be made at home (just not as good) and our cheese sticks were super greasy, I had 1 maybe 2 slices of pizza because I was hungry before my tummy began to hurt. We also waited 10 minutes to get ranch :( I will say, their portions are pretty big and we could've downsized on pizzas. Tonight I ordered a to-go medium pepperoni pizza with half artichoke hearts & half banana peppers. When we got it home and opened the box, we were shocked at the pitiful amount of toppings. I have never seen a pizza with such sparse toppings in all my life. There were 18 small pepperoni slices for 12 slices of pieces. Thats only 1.5 pieces of pepperoni per slice and you had to look closely to see the barely-visible peppers and artichokes. It was more like a cheese pizza with a sprinkle of toppings. Hands down the best pizza in the area! I've been several times now and enjoy their creative menu and toppings. While the toppings are delicious the crust is even better. The New Haven style pizza has everything you want in a crust (think of Goldilocks, not to thick or thin, but just right). It's has a nice crunch and even holds up well to reheating if for some reason you don't finish the whole pizza. In addition to the pizza the beer and cider selection is constantly evolving and has a majority of the local options on tap. Even the taps are cool using old fridges and making them into kegerators! The vibe is low key and could easily bring your family or large group of friends to celebrate. Or the booths offer a bit more privacy if you use stop in for a quieter evening.
