This was a great little stop while we were in the neighborhood. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall charm of the place and the staff. We devoured the break sticks, which were basically a crispy-yet-chewy use of their dough. With slightly more Parmesan on/in the bread, they could hit a whole other level, but they were already really good as is. The crust on the medium Chicago style pizza we ordered was to die for. It was perfectly cooked, crisp and flaky along the outside and more than capable of holding its own with all the toppings. We had pepperoni, sausage, green olives, and basil for toppings, but they seemed a bit light - especially the meats. A little more flavor and spice from the meat would have helped pierce through an otherwise pretty average sweet marinara sauce, creating a nicer balance. We almost ate the whole pie, but we were able to get the last piece wrapped in foil to take home with us along with a couple pieces of bubble gum (their fun take on an after-dinner mint/snack). Considering I enjoyed the crust so much, I would be curious to try their NY style the next time we visit. read more

Went to cabbies pizzeria last night looking at the leftover pizzas in the refrigerator. Pizza was great we got the Chicago pizza. I wore my girl up and reheat the pizza Cappy's second time nothing better. Peggy and I are planning to go back again for the Greek salad Yum Yum. Cappy's Pizzeria makes fantastic homemade Italian pizza. They're venue is small but I usually make pickup orders and the service is always very quick. The staff were very kind. Practically sharing the same building as Scooter's Coffee, this venue is small but nice. Their pizza is pricey but well worth the price. I felt like I was eating pizza straight out of Italy. Man, this is some good pizza!!! So fresh and tasty. The cheesy bread was delicious. Loads of cheese with the perfect amount of garlic and crust. Cooked to perfection. The sauce was the perfect compliment to the cheesy bread. We ordered a large Nee York style pizza half pepperoni and half Cappy's. The Cappy's has pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and prolly some other stuff that I'm forgetting. This was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. The ingredients were fresh, the dough was perfect, just the right amount of sauce. The service was good and personable. Cool atmosphere. The menus are made out of old album covers. Was in the mood for pizza on a recent business trip to Cedar Rapids so a quick Google search brought me here. I am a "pizza snob" and always looking for a good local pie - Cappy's hit it out of the park! I got the NY style and the balance between the crunchy crust, tangy sauce and toppings was perfect! What a jip, pizza was the worst ever. Ordered a large $$ Cappy and it hardly had any toppings on it. Litterally only had 4 small sausage chunks and was thin on every other topping. Cappy's opened a few months ago in the former Emil's Deli location on C St NE and Boysen Rd. This a family owned business where everyone helps out. The people are the best part, they put their hearts into this little business! The first thing you'll notice is how well they transformed a strip mall location into a cozy, 60's retro pizzeria. The tall dark wood booths were hand made by the father and they provide plenty of privacy. The lighting, floors, nostalgic signs, pop bottles, pennants and art on the wall were all done by the family. The menus are pasted over old vinyl album covers. Tiny lamps at each booth emits a warm glow and the Trivial Pursuit cards on the table keep you entertained while waiting for your order to arrive. Don't leave without trying the Greek salad. The sweet and lightly seasoned dressing is the best I've had. It comes with a couple scoops of potato salad in the bowl. I know that sounds weird but it really works. Then comes the star of the show, the deep dish Chicago pizza with an awesome buttery crust that doesn't overpower the toppings. You won't find a better deep dish outside the Windy City! We like the thin crust too. Tip: If you don't mind saving a few bucks be sure to like their Facebook page. They do special offers all the time, when you know the "secret word." I am so disappointed. When I first had cappy's pizza, I was so happy. The Cappy beat out even Tomaso's Mombo Combo, which is quite a feat in my eyes. Unfortunately, as the months went by, I feel like the quality of this pizza place has gone down. The first offense was takeout where the crust was black, and I mean burnt to a crisp and tasted bad. I've had takeout where I got home and the pizza had been hilariously tipped to the side so all the ingredients were only baked on maybe a fourth of the pizza (the cheese was still there so I know they saw it and it didn't move in the car) and the last time I was there, we waited quite awhile for a pizza that was soggy. The server said that there was something wrong with the new baker and a lot of dough had just been turning out that way. Yuck. I would have had to eat it with a spoon; I am not exaggerating. If Cappy's can get back on the level they were when they opened, I would go back, but honestly there's enough good pizza places in Cedar Rapids unless someone else buys it for me, I'm probably not going to try it again. My wife and I each have one thing that's incredibly important to us in a pizza. For her it's the crust. For me it's the sauce. She loved the crust, and I loved the sauce. I can't decide whether I would rate Cappy's Detroit pizza as just above, or just below, my previous favorite in Iowa. It's too close to call. Cappy's is a little bit cheaper, and a good amount closer to my house. So I have a feeling that Cappy's will become our regular pizza spot. They seem to have a standard pizza place menu, with standard toppings, calzones, and sodas. It's also a pretty nice place inside. So, if you're shooting for the whole "I'm not trying too hard" date, Cappy's would probably be a fit. read more

We were in town visiting family and called to order a pizza for pickup. They were out of deep dish pizza so we ordered a thin crust with sausage & green peppers. This was probably the worst pizza we've ever had. It was cold, weirdly shaped, hardly cut. Burnt crust on the bottom and maybe three little pieces of sausage. Terrible! Cappy's has a cool laid back vibe. You can help yourself to their beer fridge and they will charge to whatever you pick out. The staff was very nice and provided excellent service. The Chicago style pizza was exactly what I was looking for. It took a while to prepare, but that's to be expected from the style. The pizza was tasty and very filling. It was a little on the expensive side. $18.25 for a small Cappy's (think a supreme pizza). But they were generous with the toppings and was a good enough value. I am in town on business and this place was recommended/popped up on Yelp, and my gawd, it might be THE BEST Pizza place in Iowa!
