Jo is so EXACTLY the stylist I was looking for - I never know what to do with my super fine, super thin hair so I asked for him to take the lead and I am SO glad I did. Since I'm terrible with keeping regular appointments he gave me a color that will continue to look good as my hair grows. The cut actually gives my hair life and volume, which is typically almost impossible to do. I'm not a verbally expressive person but I may have gasped when he turned the chair around. In other kudos to this salon - it is super easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. They even posted signs warning you NOT to park in the lot next to theirs or you would be towed. ALL of the staff is incredibly friendly and everyone is on point. Jo said to allocated two hours for my first appointment, he had me out of there in less (this is SUPER important to me, also being in an appointment-based industry and scheduling things down to the minute). The entire salon is spic and span clean - something that can be hard to come by in a business that requires so much mess! Honestly I just can't say enough good about Jo and Thairapy, they will certainly being seeing plenty more of me!

I had the Liscio Japanese straightening treatment done on my medium-length coarse, wavy hair. After having had the BioIonic Japanese straightening treatment done 15 years ago, a Brazilian blowout done in '22, & Keratin treatments from '22-24, I decided to go with the Japanese straightening treatment because of the permanency, resistance to humidity, & ease of styling. I literally wash my hair, a quick blow dry & maybe one pass with a flat iron & I'm good for a week. As a mother of a two-year-old, it makes me feel like myself/put together, but does not take time away from my daily routine with my son. I'd rather be spending time with him than standing in front of the mirror running a flat iron through my hair endlessly. I did my research to see who currently offers this treatment here in Richmond. I found three places: Flirt Salon in Cary Town, a salon in the West End that requires a deposit paid at the consultation BEFORE scheduling the actual service (what the heck - they only have one person that does the treatment there, so if that person were to fall ill or get injured on the job, you would've wasted your time and perhaps have to lobby for your deposit back- no thank you!), & then a third place that had very poor reviews. I reached out to Vada, she communicated with me to answer all of my questions and I felt very confident about getting the service done with her. I consider it an investment and wanted to make it worth my while. I have high expectations, I knew exactly what I wanted, and I notice every detail when it comes to my hair. She exceeded my expectations. Vada is not only professional and highly skilled - she's been doing hair for 30 years - but she is also very personable and genuinely cares about her clients. It was a great experience from start to finish. I'm absolutely in love with my hair. Vada is wonderful and I can't recommend her salon enough.

They're finally starting to make some updates, which may be because Tony has retired. I can usually get an appointment easily. It never takes long to get in the chair, or to get the services I need. I made the mistake of getting an appointment for a trim, and was surprised when they didn't wash my hair first and cut it dry. I've never had that happen before. You actually have to ask for a shampoo, cut and blow dry, or they will just give you a cut. Prices are great, and my trims are always done well.

The bad reviewer was banned from the premises after she returned to the salon a couple days after her original appointment (where I have on good authority she said NOTHING about the charge...she did not "leave in tears"), and made a scene in front of other customers and got confrontational and rude with the owner. It's not an "admission of guilt or no community"; there's nothing to be guilty of, and it was protecting those in our community who choose to come into the salon from an unpleasant situation that didn't need to happen in the first place. 4. I sat in her chair and was told bc I didn't disclose psoriasis of scalp which I do not have a diagnosis of and is actually dandruff however I felt was resolved I couldn't be serviced and was charged 85.00 because of this! I know maybe not a relaxer but wash or shampoo. I do use medicated shampoo but whatever to get out of her seat and not feel humiliated. There was nothing just met with cold resistance that I cannot service you and the services cancelled. 2 hour drive back to NC. She did not even read my message on intake just judgement when you cut your own hair bc you want to be free it's all different lengths bc I'm not a professional and I had said I had not had it professionally done in years and some ppl do have buildup on their scalp so my scalp was not red or was it inflamed. I wish her all the best but myself also being a professional as a nurse I couldn't say in 5 minutes no I cannot service you and 85 dollars later. The very thing women fear happened my depression was judged and my migraines that affected my hair was judged at the most sensitive time of my life. I sent pics and she said I didn't see this I pulled up my phone and showed her my pictures and it was the exact same pictures. Pray her business continues to flourish however you don't know the pain or sacrifice or from suffering migraines a woman carries on her head and shoulders.
