One of the things that has been hard for me when visiting most salons- I have moderate hearing loss and the stylists have always been super chatty and ask tons of open ended questions. I usually can't understand 70% of what they say after Ive removed my hearing devices. That always takes makes me feel embarrassed when I keep asking them to repeat themselves or answer something they didnt ask. After showing my stylist my desired cut, she saw me remove my hearing aids. She did not make me feel pressured to make small talk. The head massage she gave me while shampooing my hair was wonderful and relaxing. She was gentle with my hair and took great care with cutting the layers. The front door was propped open and there was a nice breeze coming in. She made me feel happy, relaxed and at ease. I have never had such a quiet and relaxing salon experience. I look forward to visiting her again when I need my hair cut in the future.

Charleen Haynes is a fantastic stylist! She is a master stylist who specializes in cuts and colors. I attempted to be an at home stylist and damaged my hair. Charleen conditioned it and brought it back to life! Her suite is very warm and has a very nice view. She also offers products that are custom for your hair type. Her prices are very reasonable, but just know if you are looking for a master colorist you will pay for just that. But your results will be amazing! I sport a very short hair style. Like I said in the email, if a customer asks you for a hair color you should be aiming to deliver that. If a customers hair is too damaged according to you, you can't just decide to do your own color without telling the customer. I'm not sure why you are claiming this was discussed during my consultation with Jade, you were not even present during that time. Again she showed me blonde hair and if she was honest with the color SHE (not me) decided looked best she should have showed me photos of the dark brown hair she was planning. I would have said no and left the salon. If you see her phone history for December 31, 2025 at 4:20pm you will see for yourself what I was shown, and it is nowhere near what she did to my hair. I hope your salon does not continue to do the same for new customers like I was and practices honesty. It seems someone else also had a similar experience to me in the reviews here...

FIRST OF ALL....The terrible review written 6 months ago simply isn't true. Here are the facts:…read more1.That woman was just big mad that she didn't know about the service charge for paying by card. It's not a "hidden fee'; there is a sign on the checkout counter that explains the charge. Come on, hun...put on your glasses. 2. It had NOTHING to do with race or anything of the sort. No racial remarks were made, it wasn't a BLM issue, nothing like that. There were absolutely NO "black mom on Rugrats jokes" made, or anything else derogatory, racial, etc., for that matter! 3. The bad reviewer was banned from the premises after she returned to the salon a couple days after her original appointment (where I have on good authority she said NOTHING about the charge...she did not "leave in tears"), and made a scene in front of other customers and got confrontational and rude with the owner. It's not an "admission of guilt or no community"; there's nothing to be guilty of, and it was protecting those in our community who choose to come into the salon from an unpleasant situation that didn't need to happen in the first place. 4. When masks were mandated, EVERYONE wore one; I would know, I'm in the multiple times a month, have been since everything opened back up! NOTE: She's reviewed 7 places on Yelp. Only ONE "positive" review(for another hair salon), where she even references her "last review on "terrible treacherous shear design in chesterfield across from the police station""! She sees herself as some sort of hero and leader of a "positive movement"...she's not. NOW FOR AN ACTUAL, TRUE REVIEW: I've been going to Shear Design for 2 years now, and bring my family here as well. Nothing but love and kindness from ALL of the staff! Mellone does my hair; cut, dye, undercut, everything. She cuts my fiancé's hair. She braids my sister's hair. There's nothing that girl can't do when it comes to hair! Everyone at the salon is awesome, I've had my hair done by everyone at least once when Mellone wasn't available...I trust them all! Are you ready to try that colorful hair you saw on Pinterest? They can handle it. Need your eyebrows done? They got you. Wanna get eyelash tinting or extensions? Well you're in luck, they offer that too! Already emotional about my hair and its state I wanted to look my best for my father's upcoming anniversary of death and just for me finally. I sat in her chair and was told bc I didn't disclose psoriasis of scalp which I do not have a diagnosis of and is actually dandruff however I felt was resolved I couldn't be serviced and was charged 85.00 because of this! I know maybe not a relaxer but wash or shampoo. I do use medicated shampoo but whatever to get out of her seat and not feel humiliated. There was nothing just met with cold resistance that I cannot service you and the services cancelled. 2 hour drive back to NC. She did not even read my message on intake just judgement when you cut your own hair bc you want to be free it's all different lengths bc I'm not a professional and I had said I had not had it professionally done in years and some ppl do have buildup on their scalp so my scalp was not red or was it inflamed. I wish her all the best but myself also being a professional as a nurse I couldn't say in 5 minutes no I cannot service you and 85 dollars later. The very thing women fear happened my depression was judged and my migraines that affected my hair was judged at the most sensitive time of my life. I sent pics and she said I didn't see this I pulled up my phone and showed her my pictures and it was the exact same pictures. Pray her business continues to flourish however you don't know the pain or sacrifice or from suffering migraines a woman carries on her head and shoulders. Show empathy bc after my heart broken of not having this change I shall go on to take care of my patients later today and go look at my husband for a change that didn't come.
