Cancer Patient Refused $500 Refund - Poorly Done Microblading. I am a recently diagnosed cancer patient that was seeking to get my eyebrows microbladed. I went to Maria @mariialash for microblading/"nano brows". Her price for this service is $500. I wanted to get this done prior to starting chemo so I could still have natural-looking brows during treatment. Unfortunately, 100% of the pigment that Maria put on my eyebrows fell out, despite following her care instructions. I informed her of this and sent a photo of my plain brows, stating that I am starting treatment any minute and will be unable to do anything that may compromise my immune system such as getting a tattoo, for at least the next year. At this time I requested a refund. She has refused to disperse a refund stating that her disclaimers her clients sign state this could happen. A flimsy "disclaimer" does not excuse a business from providing good service and exercising good judgement. I do not recommend trusting Maria with your money nor your brows. read more

Booking an appointment was super easy and I appreciate that they were able to accommodate adding a service last minute for one of the other bridesmaids that got her hair done with me. Everyone was very friendly and I felt welcomed from the moment I walked into the salon. I was listened to by my hair stylist and makeup artist and they made sure to ask questions to ensure I was getting the look that I wanted. The salon itself is beautiful and for bridal services, parking is included in a nearby parking lot - great news if you are like me and can't parallel park for the life of you! Overall, I was really pleased with my experience and final look. I ended up spending about $200 for an updo and airbrush makeup including gratuity, but I felt so confident and polished all night long at the wedding. I can't say enough good things about the ladies at Avenue 42. From consultation, to booking, to correspondence, to hair & make up trials and finally to wedding day everything was perfect. I worked with Diane a lot while setting up the booking and the timeline and she was always responsive and able to accommodate every request. Even a week before the wedding, my fiancé's grandmother asked if she could get her makeup done and without any hesitation, Diane added her to the roster. Jane, Krista and Allison not only kept us on schedule, but made everyone feel special and comfortable. We had a group of 11, ages 9 to 87 getting hair and makeup done and everyone looked amazing! Everyone was so pleased with how they looked on my wedding day, especially when looking back at the pictures. I worked with Jane for my hair and makeup trials as well. I'm so happy with my hair and really appreciate being able to walk into a salon that isn't unwelcoming/"prissy", which I think a lot of salons can be. Let me START by saying, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I decided to get my hair and makeup done by Avenue 42. Originally I was going to go with another company and someone must have been on my side because that plan didn't work out and I decided to go with Ave42 with a strong recommendation from my Event Planner. From the first communication they were attentive and accommodating. Diane was always quick to respond and answered all of my questions. Not to mention I was paying to have hair and makeup done for 11 including myself! I didn't actually meet the girls until the day before my wedding - which may sound crazy to some brides... but I knew after stalking their instagram accounts (if you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and get on that) that they were going to be able to execute exactly what I wanted. Their salon is in Richmond, VA and I live in Charlotte, NC - so it just was too much for me to spend an entire day driving or flying out their just for a hair and makeup trial. So I decided to go to their salon the day before my wedding and have them do my hair and makeup and then go straight to my Rehearsal Dinner. The day of my rehearsal dinner my best friend and maid of honor and I showed up for the trial appointment and immediately knew we were going to like these girls. Little did I know after spending a day with them I would want to quit my job, go to hair and makeup school and try to work with them (just kidding, but seriously....). You can tell every single one of them LOVES what they do. They are easy going and sweet and generally just fun to be around. The entire time we had FUN. We shared tips and tricks and talked about everything under the sun. By the time we were finished (1pm) we were all excited about the wedding the next day! Also, they were super sweet to actually do two styles on my hair so that I didn't show up to the rehearsal dinner with the same look I was going to wear to my wedding the next day. Fast forward to the next day (WEDDING DAY). All four ladies (Ashlee, Megan, Marcella and Amy) showed up with smiles and ready to get started right on time - and they worked like a well-oiled machine. Literally - they have a process and they know how to get the job done and make sure you're ready on time and looking stunning. I let my bridesmaids choose their own hair and makeup - and every single one of them looked like they could walk a runway when they were finished. It was almost hard to talk to some of them because you were too busy staring at how beautiful they were! They know how to pull out each person's natural beauty and make them feel amazing. I literally cannot say enough good things about Avenue42. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the products and the outcome. The girls are amazing and so much fun. And most importantly - we all felt and looked extraordinary. A+++++++ for Ave42. Love you ladies! Thank you so much for making my day that much more perfect. P.S. Brides - make sure to feed your vendors! Especially if they are going to be working with you for more than a few hours. It's tough and grueling work. My makeup artist Emili did a freaking fantastic job getting my makeup done (and super quickly too because I was the worst and showed up late). She was so much fun to be around, I'd pay just to get to hangout with her in her salon!!! But I absolutely love how my makeup turned out and was thoroughly impressed with her knowledge and skill in applying makeup. I got a hair cut with Jesika today and I cannot get over how amazing my hair looks. I have curly hair and I could definitely tell Jesika really knew how to cut curly hair. Most hair cuts I've gotten in the past, the stylist just treated my hair the same as straight hair, but Jesika definitely took an approach unique to my hair. I have been a social media follower of Avenue 42 Salon for awhile now, especially since I had seen what an amazing job these ladies had done for a girlfriend's wedding. After a horrendous haircut back in April, which left me literally crying as I walked out, I knew I had to find a better salon to start going to. Then, I remembered about Avenue 42, and quickly booked my November hair appointment online. I immediate received a confirmation e-mail that day and a follow-up email a couple of days prior to my appointment as a reminder. Walking into the salon, I was so very impressed; not only were all the ladies professional but very welcoming as well. Compared to my previous salon, where the women were less than thrilled to even be working that day, I could tell these ladies really enjoyed what they do. I met Katie and as I sat down in her chair, I explained to her what I was looking for. After providing a few pictures for reference, and sharing my previous experience, I knew Katie would take care of me. I was taken in the back for shampoo and conditioning, then Katie brought me back to the chair for my haircut and styling. Katie was a joy to work with. She was talking with me about my hair - as she shared the same type as I do - and even helped walk me through ways to help me style my hair easier. Watching Katie work was like watching an artist- she is quite skilled at her craft and it shows. My hair looked stunning. My curls were soft and my hair felt so healthy. I was especially impressed with all the knowledge these ladies know as well as the great product lines they use. My hair has never looked better and I felt so very confident with my new hairstyle. I am in love with my new look. After my appointment, I had so many comments on my hair and how amazing it looked- what a boost of confidence! I cannot thank these ladies enough for not only a great experience but removing the fear of the salon after a previously bad experience. Scheduled for lash extensions with Natalie two days before my wedding. I asked if I needed to do a test spot beforehand, but they stated that it wasn't necessary. I received the lashes, but noted that both my eyes were a red and irritated afterwards. Natalie mentioned that this was common and to not worry about it. By the next morning my right eye was red, tearing, and almost swollen shut from the lashes being so close to the lash line. I called Avenue 42 and scheduled a lash removal in a panic. Avenue 42 stated they would offer a refund/credit, but when I followed up they stated that they changed their minds. Disappointed about the service and the results. Brighton has been doing my hair for a little over a year and every time she has been so awesome. She took me to blonde from red and then back to black and killed it at every appointment along the way. Every cut has been really flattering. I also got a Brazilian blowout with her and loved the results from that. I used to hate getting my hair done because I would be so anxious about making small talk. Not only is Avenue 42 my regular hair salon, but they also did hair and makeup for myself and 8 bridesmaids for my wedding. Noelle and Sonya did an amazing job on my hair and makeup. The photo I'm posting is from 11 pm - a solid 12 hours after my makeup was applied, and it still looked flawless. Noelle worked with me for 10 months before the wedding to shape and color my hair so it would work for the style I wanted. I came in with faded highlights, just thinking they'd get touched up and I'd be on my way. As someone who is extremely picky with their hair, I did some thorough research (Thanks Yelp!) before I committed to choosing a place. With not only the sheer quantity of sheer reviews, but the kind and positive words said in each review convinced me that this was the place I had to go. First of all, what a cutie, trendy salon. I felt like I had stepped onto a real-life Pinterest board. It is comfy and homey as well, with a fireplace, and vintage-inspired rooms. My haircut was great! Katie did a great job! She made my bridesmaids and myself look stunning, fresh faced, and luminous. She even took the time to make a big deal of my sister with special needs - making her feel special and beautiful and just like "one of the girls". This was my first time at Avenue 42 and long story short - Chloe is a magician!! I came in with just an idea about the length of hair that I wanted to walk out with and Chloe did the rest! First of all, she squeezed me in within one hour of my call to the salon for an appointment which I really appreciated! Second - its such a nice environment at Avenue 42, everybody is super nice and friendly. Last and obviously not the least, Chloe is an excellent hair stylist. She stopped and asked for how things were looking and if I was liking the outcome multiple times during the process (spoiler alert: I was loving it). I have a large volume of hair so I am always a little hesitant to go to new people since they dont always know what to do with my texture but Chloe knew exactly what she needed to do to get the final outcome I wanted. I cannot say enough good things about my experience at this salon! I made an appointment online and got a confirmation email the next day. My stylist was Ashley, and she was amazing! She patiently listened to me try to describe what I wanted(which was not easy because I made no sense!) and talked me through my options. My hair was previously bleached and she really didn't want to damage it further by bleaching it again. I was a little bit apprehensive but I ended up with stunning, HEALTHY hair that I love so much! She could have said sure I'll bleach it and damage it more and charge you more, but she genuinely wanted what was best for my hair and I just love her for that. I hired Ave42 for my wedding day. It was a horrific experience. We had 2 make artists and two hairstylist. A hair stylist was 20 minutes late, then left the front door open almost causing my dog to escape on my wedding day. They also were unorganized at the end, rushing to finish my hair because they were running out of time. In the end, they overcharged us 400 dollars that was later refunded to us but it was very stressful causing my mother and father to miss my first look photos. After the wedding, I emailed the manager with my complaints but nothing came of it and the owner brushed us off. Avenue 42 is simply the best! We used the gorgeous bridal suite for hair and makeup the morning of my wedding on August 6. It was the perfect setting for us to relax and hang out while getting our hair and makeup done. Their Pandora playlist was on point, the suite was comfortable and cool (it was a VERY hot August day), and we were able to bring our own food and drinks in to enjoy. There was plenty of space and comfy chairs for people to sit when they weren't getting hair or makeup done. We had four stylists, Ashlee and Marcella for hair and Krista and Amy for makeup, for my seven bridesmaids, two mothers, and myself. All were extremely talented, fun to be around, and kept things moving while ensuring each person's hair and makeup was done to their liking. They listened to what each girl wanted, offered ideas and suggestions, and executed each style so perfectly. Ashlee did my hair and did a phenomenal job. I had planned to wear my hair half up and that was the style we went with at my trial, but I decided a week or two before that due to the heat factor I would go completely up. I showed Ashlee some pictures of ideas, and she took it from there. I put my complete trust in her and she didn't disappoint. The style even held up through the heat and humidity of August, an outdoor trolley ride from the ceremony to the reception site, and lots of dancing throughout the evening. Ashlee's work speaks for itself and I would highly recommend her for bridal hair. Krista did my bridal makeup, and I would also highly recommend her. I don't typically wear much makeup, and Krista helped me to get a very natural, polished look. Booking manager, Diane, was extremely helpful and responsive with any questions I had leading up to the big day. I found pricing very reasonable, and everyone couldn't have been nicer. Avenue 42's bridal suite is the perfect place to start your wedding morning.
