I had a terrible experience 2 or 5 times with Cody the Pixie Expert? He was very nice in the beginning because I was a new client? But he became very hostile when the Photos and Color I showed him from day 1 ~ didn't get anywhere near looking like these photos ~ even the Color! I really don't know how this Salon gets the stars they've gotten in the past and have noticed in the last 2 years there has been a great decline ~ as is more the truth! The Reviews would start out with "How the Salon was/is Decorated"? I saw nothing about the Decorating that was the cutest ever I would mention in a Review and that would Not have me go back to experience the ambiance Of the Salon and experience a hairdresser's hostile attitude when you questioned the haircut or color not working towards the photos you first brought in. Not only that ~ trying to discuss with The Nice Receptionist ~ in a quiet tone~ because the Loitering Area for Stylist's that had no Clients was THE Receptionist Corner up front and I thought by talking to the Receptionist in a quiet tone ~ these Nosy Stylist's would 1. Recognize I was taking to Receptionist on the DOWN LOW and known of your business mode 2. When I directed to the Receptionist by looking at her eye to eye a question meant for them ~ the Receptionist couldn't answer the question before the Loitering Stylist's broke in and answered for before the Receptionist could even open her mouth! I could have perhaps overlooked their Nosy Manners ~ if Cody had the decency (as his Station was right next to and up against the Receptionist Area) to use his manners to help me out instead of aiming his hostility onto me because I had the guts to question his plan going further ~ AS IT IS CERTAINLY THE CUSTOMER'S RIGHTS TO BE ABLE TO DO SO ~ IF THEY HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR A SERVICE THAT HAVE NOT RECEIVED. 5 stars for my stylist; 1 star for the salon's front desk / customer service. I am admittedly not one of those girls that is religious about getting their hair done so perhaps my LTV wasn't enough to put me on the map, but I have been going to my stylist for 5 years. He's always done an amazing job. I had an appointment in Sept., two days before my wedding to get a cut and color. I got a call the morning of the appt to let me know that my stylist had tested positive for COVID and they needed to cancel my appt. When I explained that my wedding was that weekend, the woman who called asked if she could reschedule me that day with someone else (which was obvs the right thing to do given how important a weekend it was). In the moment, I was so upset that I said no, but within 5 minutes of hanging up the phone, I realized I should have said yes and I called back. No one answered, so I left a message explaining I had misspoke and could someone please call me back. It's been over two weeks, and no one ever called. So, if you want to support the business of people who care about their customers and behave in what's feels appropriate to describe as a morally decent manner, this probably isn't where you want to go. Had the best experience here today with Melanie! I am always a nervous wreck when I get my haircut and haven't been able to find someone I can fully trust going to. Today Melanie changed all of that! This used to be a really lovely salon, but it went downhill after all the good stylists left. What happened?

Mad props to KB Salon for the precautions they are taking to protect not only their customers, but also their employees! One thing I can say with confidence is that the customer service here is top notch. During COVID, I felt safe while getting my haircut done. Lots of hand sanitizer as needed all throughout the salon (which smelled so good, omg I need it). Communication was great. There was a hiccup about receiving a return to my phone call for scheduling my appt, but I think I might've said my phone number a little too fast when I left a VM (was at work at the time). Epiphany is a BOSS. I got asked what I wanted and said I just needed to feel human again. I needed to have a cut that I could pull back since I work in a hospital and the ICU I cover has COVID patients. The magic was worked. We joked the whole time, talking about shows we were watching, and by the time I got my hair washed, I almost shouted THANK YOU UNIVERSE because it felt like the best thing EVER. No joke. Wearing masks is the worst, especially when you're hot and sweaty. That hair wash was a treat. More importantly, this cut is something that is cute and manageable from a work-standpoint. LOVE YOU, EPIPHANY! Keep being your badass, sweet self. Only suggestion would be to give the option for scheduling appointments online? Even during a pandemic, this place has stellar customer service. I felt both safe (from COVID) and respected 100% of the time I was inside the salon. Hi! I am not really a Yelp person, but I wanted to share my experience with Katie Blue Salon. The environment is very friendly, and there was excellent service; I was offered a drink as I waited, and was promptly seen by my hairdresser. I am originally from New York and have had a lot of trouble here finding the right fit for my hair stylist, as I had the same one for six years before she moved back home to Japan. It has been tough to find a place, and a hairdresser, where I felt like I was comfortable to do exactly what I wanted and needed. I am also half-Korean, so it's been even more challenging to find someone who "gets" how my hair can be. I also am someone who prefers a more sleek, clean haircut -- I love all the trends here for great coloring styles and 70's looks, but really needed help to find someone who wanted to cut my hair in the way that works best for me. This is where Melissa comes in! I am so lucky to have had her. I don't mean to gush, but Melissa is also half-Korean with training in DC doing simple and polished looks (although I'm sure she could give anyone a great cut anywhere). I needed to go from America to Japan, and was going to meet with my hairstylist/close friend while there for a shorter bob, but I still needed my dead ends cut and cleaned up in preparation for my original stylist, and for meeting with clients and networking for my job. So, I was very nervous to go here, but took the plunge! I'm so glad I did. Melissa was highly attentive, extremely friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. She knew just what happened with my original haircut before her, and understood and listened to my needs. I felt very listened to, and was incredibly confident as I left. I knew she cut just the right amount off, and actually am looking forward to keeping my maintenance haircuts with her now. She is caring and a great listener, while also providing her professional opinions. Please, I encourage everyone to go and see Melissa! Had been going here for city and blow dry a couple years ago. Chic combined with earthy cowboy, it was a cool hip place where up and coming stylists worked their magic. It still is except for one thing. They seem to have lost their touch for customer service. My cut is eat for a hairdresser - layered, textured Ann's short. There were some final adjustments to the cut after the blow drying, I left, and when I got home I realized those last few corrections made uneven and thicker on one side. My bangs were chopped short instead off how I requested too. Okay so stuff happens right? I was on the phone the second after I realized the final cuts weren't applied evenly. It was within 45 min of leaving the salon. I asked if I could come back so (she) could apply the changes to the other half of my head which would take maybe five minutes Tops. Uh n no. Uh, yeah, no but I can make you an appointment. I proceeded to tell her it's like, I left with crooked bangs- it will only take a split second to even out!!! Back and forth we went, put on hold and told I couldn't swing by Saturday, Sunday, OR Monday. This response came from the styles because I was put on hold while she asked. To end this review quickly, when I received a request for feedback, I gave it. To date, the best I can tell, is the owner no longer cares. This is why I give one star: 1. It should have been done right in the first place. 2. Stopping by after the last client before closing should have been the answer 3. Never received a call from the hairdresser at all. 4. The survey fore feedback came via email Ana I wrote out my issue and sent. It's almost two weeks later and still no call from the Salon owner.? 5. if I hear nothing from a company that claims prestige, then I should be treated like a client who has contributed to that prestige through patronage. Maybe the optics weren't ideal for the salon, to have the customer come back to fix a mistake but I should not be the one that had to drum up the excuses. That's #6. read more

My hair can shrink up quite a bit when cut wet. It is expensive, but better than looking like a mushroom. I think this will keep well for me just doing maintenance cuts. TLDR: Researched balayage and this place came highly recommended online and by my Junior League gfs. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right color the first try so, 5 hours later, I walked out with a color but not a balayage. The owner, Katie, was willing to help make it more balayage but I have to pay for another full price session because she insisted it was not a fix. It is true.. just like they said on their website: Our gang writes the hair laws in town. And we break 'em whenever we feel like it. So, if you do your research on balayage, don't come here expecting that! Below for entire experience encounter: Scheduled a balayage from 9am-12pm with Anna Showed her exactly what I wanted & stressed 3 things: 1. My hair takes color really well, so please do not lift it too light (didn't want blonde/bleach) 2. I wanted that was multicolored look in the picture - dark brown to medium brown to maybe ashy 3. Not sure I wanted the ashy tips like the photo because I didn't want to fry my hair. Anna consulted with Katie, the owner who explained that the ashy tips would take two coloring sessions. We agreed to the rest of the look on this photo minus the ashy tip Anna used foil on my hair and I asked her if she's doing highlights or balayage which is free painting. She assured me that her technique is balayage. Also asked if she's going to achieve multicolored because it looks like she was just putting in one color from the middle section to the end and then covering my hair with foil. she explained that the ends will come out naturally lighter and the middle piece will be darker with the top part of my head the natural color. So, I took her answer to heart and just let her work. Coloring done, and when Anna was washing my h joair, Katie walked by and said that the color is too light and not what was shown in the picture. It turned out like bleached blonde and it was already 11:40am. Anna said that I should be able to get out by 1230pm. So I rescheduled lunch with my friend to 1230pm. Anna was super nice and tried again. She assured me it is normal to use a toner to darken. The first toner made it darker but not enough so I had to cancel lunch plans. Also, unfortunately, Anna had another client at noon, so the apprentice (I totally forgot her name but she was super nice) came to help out. Tiffani, stylist working with a client next to me, recommended a mix two different toner numbers to get it right. Katie, the owner, said it looks like my picture so I showed her the three pictures stitched together (which is attached here) and said that the toner isn't getting to this picture shown, which she agreed to. And so, Tiffani helped with the color. The apprentice is now the one applying the toner. This time, they fixed the color. Anna mentioned that since my hair lifted so much, I would need to come back in for a toner redo within 4-6 weeks to keep it the color I want. But at this point, I was exhausted, hungry and needing to leave, so I settled the bill and left around 2pm. I called Tuesday morning to schedule a fix because it is not balayage. Haley on the phone was super nice and said, yes she remembered me and was happy to schedule another appointment at no charge so we can achieve the look I wanted. Later in the day, Katie, called and said that they can do the balayage, but at a full charge price since they are doing my hair again. She insisted: 1. It wasn't a fix because she watched Anna did my hair and she applied the right technique (but, Highlights are applied using a method called "foiling". Balayage is a free-hand technique of applying highlights and does not usually use foil) 2. Balayage isn't multicolored and can be just one color (but, Balayage should create soft and natural gradations of lightness along the hair strand - usually slightly deeper closer to the scalp and lighter towards the end.) 3. She felt that we accomplished the one color look because she clarified with me that we couldn't do the ashy tip. But when I challenge her over the phone that she never said it was one color, she agreed but insisted that balayage could be gradient or one color, and that most people have a misunderstanding of it and that most of the time balayage is a gradient of colors but can be one color. Katie was very cordial over the phone. I explained that I wasn't happy with the service and don't feel that I should pay for another round of balayage since they need to fix the color and she insisted that they did nothing wrong. So, I thanked her for the call and asked to cancel my follow up appointment to fix my hair since she made it clear that it would cost me the full price to do my hair again. read more

Melanie gave me the best cut of my life. This place exceeded every expectation. Atmosphere is relaxed and clean, lady at the front desk is very friendly and accommodating. They offered me something to drink and had free snacks while you wait. Melanie asked what I wanted and seemed to follow my train of thought even though I didn't really know how to articulate it. She checked in at all the right times to make sure I liked what she was doing without being overwhelming. After the cut she asked how I wanted it styled and I told her to style it however she wanted. Epiphany is AMAZING! I have a wavy hair pattern that I have been straightening since middle school (I'm now 28). I fell into that whole tik tok trap of "I didn't know my hair was curly!" but didn't really know how to take care of it and amplify my natural wave pattern. Epiphany gave me an amazing cut and color, and I truly feel more like myself than I have ever felt in years. She is super personable and down to earth and we had a great conversation throughout the five hours I spent in the salon (that's saying a lot from a huge introvert). COVID measures are outstanding. This place is great! I actually live in Charlottesville but after having not one, but TWO traumatic experiences with two different salons I was done with the Charlottesville hair scene. I researched and yelped and came across this gem. I scheduled an appointment and was recommended Nadia for my hair type which is thick, long, and wavy. She did a great job of asking what style I wanted and what outcome I was expecting! The cut turned out amazing (we took like 6-7" off at least) The aesthetic was also very cool and they played really good music. In love with this salon! My first time here and the experience was 120% satisfactory! I found Hannah through Instagram and loved the hair styles she'd given others. She is also giving all new clients 20% only for January. I've tried so hard to find someone who knew how to cut the style I've wanted and never had luck. She sees things through a different perspective and it's the perspective I've been looking for! I showed her photos and she was so excited! Her face lit up with a big cheesy grin. My hair was a 1920's inspo with a touch from Bettie Page. She made my hair sleek and my baby bangs were perfect. She uses a Dyson hair dryer which was super fast at drying! She's super sweet and definitely worth the drive from Midlothian to Carytown. One of the stylists brings her tin chihuahua when she works. She will say in the back or walk through the salon greeting everyone and enjoys sitting in the window on all the pillows. They have chocolate chip cookies too! Melanie at Katie Blue Salon did an incredible job with my hair! I haven't gotten my hair cut professionally in over three years and came in with a very detailed and specific request. She stopped at every step to explain what she was doing and why, and gave me options throughout the process. Asking where I wanted my layers to fall, whether I wanted them to be the same length throughout, what texture I was hoping to achieve and she even gave me an idea of how my hair would fall given its length. My hair came out looking exactly like my reference photos and is far better than I could have hoped for! I wanted a natural yet a hint-of-allison so she extracted all my copper reds in my hair a previous salon messed up and gave me a shiny chocolate brown root that she pulled down.
