My experience was excellent from beginning to end. First, when I called to book the appointment, I spoke with Terina who was so sweet. What surprised me most about the call was that she asked multiple questions like what kind of hair I had, what texture my hair was, and if there was anything I wanted my stylist to know about my hair. I thought this was fantastic because in my 25 years of getting haircuts I had never been asked questions about my hair prior to sitting in the chair on the appointment date. As for the appointment, Kimberley was super sweet and was so responsive to my questions, concerns, and desires for my hair. She was super talkative and consistently checked in to make sure what she was doing to my hair was what I had in mind. As someone with curly hair, it was so nice to have someone who had curly hair herself understand where I was coming from and use her expertise to give me a great cut. Highly recommend! read more

Went from a long bob to a pixie cut and while the haircut was cute, it wasn't quite as short as I wanted and I had to touch it up for like a week afterwards (which could be thanks in part to having a mask on and missing the hairs covered by the mask). A week later I went and got it cut shorter at a much cheaper place. The staff are friendly and were very welcoming knowing it was my first time. However, I probably won't go back just because it was very expensive compared to what I'm used to. read more

I got a lousy haircut for a fantastic haircut price. I think the person who gave it might depend on the ability to style rather than cut.

Went for my first haircut of 2020 this month. The Salon did an excellent job making me feel like they take covid really seriously and are prioritizing their own health and safety and their customers. I also ended up with an excellent haircut and color thanks to Delia. I hadn't been to this salon before but I'm so happy I did. The color was exactly what I wanted and the cut was great too. They were very interested in making sure I got exactly what I wanted and took the time to talk me through it. They also asked me to send photos of my hair before my appointment so they could get a sense of what I had in mind. Very professional and caring and really high quality! A good place to go for a something that's a little edgy too. read more

Red Salon Organics - I got a color block of blonde and a cut. I love it! - Hair Salons Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

I love Red Salon Organics! They are so friendly and welcoming. I have been lucky to have Autumn and Ella cut, style and color my hair. I have friends, family and work collogues/clients who also go to all different stylists at Red Salon and are all so happy. I go in looking like a cavewoman and go out like a movie star. I love their products too. read more

I went yesterday to get my hair cut and I could not be happier! Jordan was my stylist, she is so sweet and understood that while my hair is fine it still needs some layers to make it look alive and thank goodness she did! She was even nice enough to put some beach waves in my hair before I left knowing that's how I usually style it. I'll defiantly be back! Would highly recommend this salon. read more

I needed a new hair cut/style before a friends wedding and I was looking around yelp and I found Red Salon Organics. I almost always get my haircut at Hair Cuttery which is your run of the mill/average hair cut places. They don't do a great job and they don't do a terrible job either. But after going to Red Salon Organics, I want to keep going to Salons who actually have Master Stylists and hair cutters who really know their stuff. My stylist was named Wendy. She was awesome! There was a small consultation right before the cut and she seemed to know exactly what I wanted even though my desciption may have been ahem vague. She is only one of two hair stylists where I have actually carried on a lengthy conversation with because I was that confident with her skills. Usually I dont peep a word b/c I don't want to distract them and end up messing my hair. haha. This places has an upstairs and downstairs. Just a SN, this place does cater to primarily women but they do have a couple of stylists that are trained to cut men's hair as well. It was $30 for a mens cut, shampoo and styling which is more than what I normally pay for but I know I got a high quality cut and service. read more

Meredith did a great job on my thick unmanageable hair. My complaint was split ends with very thick hair which tangles quickly and style does not hold. I told her I travel a lot and don't use any product on my hair. I don't wash my hair too often or blow-dry either. She did a great job thinning my hair so it doesn't tangle and when I said I was thinking of bangs, she talked me out of it by telling me that my lifestyle will not fit with taking care of the bangs :) She did give me face trimming layers. Overall, my style didnot change much (which i was a bit bummed about), but I was happy with her consideration of my hair texture and routine. read more

Always great experience there, love their organic use and excellent covid protocols, autumn and meredith rock cant wait to go back!

Thank you Jordyn for fulfilling my blonde ambitions! Also appreciate the vegan restaurant recommendations ;) Meredith is also amazing! Great staff and cool environment. Love that all the products they use and recommend are organic. read more

I was open-minded when I arrived at the salon and very satisfied until Megan began discussing my color preferences with another stylist. The senior stylist decided I didn't know what color I REALLY wanted, and that I should probably go lighter because of my complexion. I always trust the opinion of salon professionals (I will sit down and tell them to do what they think will look good!) so I confidently let Megan color my hair a lighter brown than I originally asked for. After the color came the cut, and Megan nailed it...until the styling took a turn for the worst. Megan completely fried my bangs and I could smell the burn and hear the sizzle as it happened...and continued to happen. They are now crunchy and curled on the ends and look completely horrible! It seemed to me that Megan was under pressure from the senior stylists to perform and nervously kept going over and over my bangs with the super hot flatiron. She kept remarking that it was difficult to settle them flat. My hair is very fine, scalp is sensitive and I am unable to use harsh chemicals due to allergies, etc, but I do not believe I will be returning to Red Salon Organics in the future. **************************************************************************** EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!! I decided to keep the original review up here to speak to the unsatisfactory experience I had and attach an amendment. Meredith (the co-owner or Red Salon Organics), after having read my unfavorable review above, contacted me to make amends. She offered product to repair the damage to my bangs, a complimentary cut from herself and any additional consultation I might need to rectify the "hairy situation"! I was quite simply blown away by this level of response and customer service initiative. The management at Red Salon Organics has not only gained my respect but also convinced me to give the salon another shot. I WILL be returning to the salon and Meredith and her commitment to excellent customer service is the reason. My bangs may need some additional convincing, but my cute new haircut and great customer experience are all the convincing I need. Thank you Meredith! XOXOXO read more

I recently moved to Richmond and was in search of a new salon. I am very picky when it comes to my hair and my stylist. After much research, I decided to give Red Salon a visit. I am glad I did. I booked an appointment with Autumn after stopping in to see the place. I was helped immediately. I told them what I was seeking and they recommended her based on her experience. (she is the owner of the salon too!) I was only able to get in 1.5 months away! I guess that speaks to her popularity. However, I was placed on a waiting list and was able to get in earlier than my original appointment because of a cancellation. Autumn was great! She listened, suggested, and really took the time to get to know her client. My color looks great and is exactly what I wanted. My cut is fantastic too. I will become a regular for Autumn. read more

Red Salon is one of those great places that just feels "good" from the minute you walk through the door. Perhaps it is the fact that the owners, Autumn and Meredith have made it a focus to work to preserve our planet through a focus on environmentally friendly products. Vibrant colors and an intimate setting in a small but comfortable antique storefront gives this spot a unique vibe. Walk in and your are in an Aveda-centric salon that envelopes you in a great combination of scents and potions. Aveda salons, as far as I am concerned are all about the fact that they are as green as one can get when it comes to products for hair color, care and skin care. I have never "bitten the Aveda fruit" or "drank the punch" but I find that the natural scents used in Aveda hair products always relax me and put me in a place that somehow makes going to an Aveda salon more relaxing and indulgent. Meredith, who is one of the owners, is an expert who has been in the business for a very long time. The customer service is excellent and they are very considerate about getting you started and making you feel welcome and comfortable. The vibe of good friends working together as a team is very evident here. Meredith's high energy and fun attitude sets the pace for a gossipy and engaging sit in her chair. I came in for a quick cut and she fit me between clients. At $25 it wasn't too high and I think on par with the rest of Richmond. She had me in and out in 20 minutes and my hair smelled and felt great. She had fixed a botched job a local "barber" had done and I am completely satisfied with my experience. The girls at Red are a fun group and the huge and loyal following says it all. Go Meredith! read more

Great products, cute space and great haircuts! My husband has difficult hair (wavy) to cut but Meredith did a wonderful job! Since she impressed me so much with how she cut my husband's hair, I went to her to get my 2 month old haircut fixed (the previous stylist at another salon gave me a very weird, uneven bob). Meredith addressed my concerns and helped shape my hair into a nicer cut for growing out. Meredith, THANK YOU so much for fixing my hair! read more

Found my new stylist! **Andrea is amazing**!!! Recently moved to RVA from DC and was nervous about starting with a new salon. I had a few photos and she asked great questions to clarify what I liked about the color, style, cut etc. I have thin/baby fine hair a little longer then shoulder length.....I asked for a warm up from my natural base and subtle ombre. Andrea delivered! The color is really beautiful with a soft ombre hi-light. She also took extra time to consult and help me understand the different curl types you can achieve with a curling wand. In short: nice cozy salon, very professional, fun----delivered excellent service Thank you so much! read more

I just had my first appointment for cut and color with Autumn. Now, I do understand that this salon is not cheap, but there's something to be said about charging what you are worth... I have never gotten my hair lightened and was curious about exploring ombre options for my extremely dark brown hair. Autumn is very realistic in how she consults with you and will let you know if something really just isn't possible or how to expect your results. In any case, I was really happy with the results and even happier after my follow up appointment for toner and now I'm overjoyed! My hair is so cute it's actually a bit of a distraction. The cut looks super cute now, but I can tell it will still look cute as it is growing longer in a couple months. I appreciate this b/c it shows Autumn was listening when I said I tend to be lazy about making regular appointments and am somewhat fickle about hair length. All in all, I'd say if you want fabulous, daring color, this salon is so far the best I've seen in town. read more

Love, love Red Salon! Autumn is the best. I just moved to Richmond from D.C. and was worried about finding a good salon since I am one of those gals that takes several tries to find the right stylist. A co-worker recommended Autumn and I couldn't have been happier. She gives a great cut and doesn't let you get stuck in a rut with the same style. She also offers a complementary bang trim in between cuts...perfect for people like me who sometimes try to cut their own bangs, yes, i know...bad bad! Give them a try! read more

I rarely write reviews , but I saw Andrea today and she did such an outstanding job on my hair I had to write this review. She pretty much had to do " reconstructive surgery " on my badly colored and cut blonde hair, she literally brought my hair back to life! I finally found a stylist I can count on!! Worth every penny! read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored here for ages. They're damn decent at coloring my hair red, which I know is tough to do. They're very friendly and lovely ladies there. They always answer the phone and when you show up they have shirts to wear so you don't get hair or dye on your own clothes and they offer you something to drink as soon as you step in. If you pay by anything other than credit card you'll have to ask for a receipt. The only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is that every time I get my hair colored I've asked them to dye my eyebrows a little lighter so that they look light enough for me to have naturally red hair. A few times they've refused, saying that it wouldn't look good. Once they did it and it looked GREAT, I got TONS of compliments on it. Then, every time I've asked after that they said they'd do it but the dye didn't take at all and my eyebrows looked just like they naturally do. My only other complaint is that my hair color has not continuity. It's always some shade of red and it always looks very nice, but it's never been really the same shade of red. It's always within a few shades of itself, but if you pay attention to my hair (like I do, since I live here) you notice it's never the same. I've mentioned it and they tell me that it's because red doesn't hold up to repeated colorings. I don't know if that's true or not, I'm inclined to believe them but...that doesn't seem right. read more

Found my salon! Meredith is amahzing (requires spoken pronunciation for the full effect). She really KNOWS hair. For example, I came in to Red Salon with over-processed (read: bleached highlights from another salon), dry and brittle hair. After one consultation, a cut, and a take-home Aveda deep conditioning treatment (she never pushes product; I asked, she answered, and I followed), my hair is noticeably softer, fuller, and healthier. I go on the regular now...first time in my life that I routinely I set-up my next appointments when I leave. She's a busy lady and my hair needs its fix. They're fun, cool women, too. Never exorbitant prices. Always fantastic results. read more

I've had my hair cut at Red Salon twice so far and both times I've had the best experience! First of all, you know a good salon when you walk in and everyone has really great hair. The second time Wendy, the newest stylist, cut and styled my hair. I have long wavy/curly hair and I am always very nervous to get my hair cut, but Wendy did a fabulous/artful job and I have been getting compliments on the layers for weeks afterward! She also was awesome about making my hair look natural--not over straightened/over producted--and working with the curl. I loved the whole experience and I recommend this perky, pleasant, cozy salon to everyone now! P.S. It is just so great to be able to make an appointment via email! The customer service is the best I've ever experienced. read more

5 stars, no hesitation!!! Autumn is the best!! I started seeing Autumn over a year ago after another hairdresser totally botched my color. I had recently had a surgery which caused my body to react differently to the color, which my previous hairdresser did not take the possibility of these hormonal changes into account. After a horrifying attempt at color correction by my previous hairdresser, I searched and searched for the right person to fix the issue. In my research, I found Autumn, who cared about the environment, was privy to how health issues can impact hair/hormones and is specially trained in color correction. She did not disappoint!!! From my first appointment with her, I loved her vibe. She is hilarious, positive and in tune with what is important to each person. She listened to my concerns about my color issues following my recent surgery and she knew exactly how to get my desired result. From my first color treatment with her - my hair has been completely PERFECT!!! I have received oodles of compliments on my hair since she started coloring and trimming it. Oh and have I mentioned that she is the bang queen?!! She can give you the most killer bangs imaginable, no matter what style.... The salon is modern, environmentally friendly, chic, fun and the perfect size (think boutique salon, not a crazy circus). They also carry a wide range of Aveda products (as well as a small selection of locally handmade jewelry). Prices are in line with excellent services received. Highly recommend!!!! read more

First time here yesterday! Wendy did my hair and it turned out great!! She was absolutely wonderful on giving me recommendations and listened to what I wanted. I'm mostly blonde all over but am a natural dark brown haired girl, so it's always tricky finding a salon that can match it well. Wendy took the time to do highlights, wash, tone etc. and did everything herself, which I was really impressed because usually someone else washes your hair etc. She took the time to really massage my hair while washing it (this is always the best part of getting my hair done), it literally felt like a 20min head massage, it was the best!!! My hair color turned out great and she cut it well too! The only thing is that they are kinda pricey but its totally worth every penny! They do complimentary bang trim which is nice because I have bangs that grow pretty fast. I recently just moved here and I think I may have found my go to Salon and hair stylist! read more

Red Salon Organics - Upstairs! I didn't even know they had an upstairs, very quiet and cozy! - Hair Salons Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

I have to give it to these ladies on their customer service! After my posted review, the owner contacted me and wanted to make up my last experience. I personally can't afford to go here any longer (you know the economy and all...) Keep up the awesome customer relations girls and I won't be able to get an appointment when I can return! read more

I had went to another salon for years till my hairdresser moved. I read the great reviews for Red on here. I called and they gave me an appt the next week. I have almost waist length hair. I went in and saw Wendy. She listened to me and I must have talked about what to do for my new sprout of gray hair. For my long hair full foil highlights, cut, blow dry, and style was $175. Can I even tell you how much money I saved???? I have paid over 200 for the past 5 years. My hair looks great and the other women I saw walking out looked great too! read more

I'm new to the Richmond area, and after reading the great reviews on Red Salon, I decided to book an appointment for an all-over color. My only piece of advice is to make sure to book in advance! This wasn't a problem for me and honestly only made me feel better about the salon. I figured full popularity means high quality! I was not disappointed by Red Salon. While small, this salon is amazing. From the moment I stepped in, I was treated wonderfully by the entire staff. I had my hair colored by Wendy and she gave me exactly what I wanted. After being blonde for quite a while I wanted to go back to a dark auburn shade and it came out amazing. I'm definitely going to book another appointment with Wendy soon for a pretty drastic hair cut! Once again, I cannot recommend this salon enough! read more

Red Salon Organics, and specifically Andrea, worked some magic on my hair! I had an emergency color correction. Everyone who I interacted with was so kind and professional. read more

I love this place. I live near DC, but stumbled across Red Salon last summer. I have been there twice, and the drive is worth it! I recently got a haircut and partial highlights with Wendy. I've been apprehensive to drastic change ever since growing out my super-short hair. Wendy understood, made suggestions, and gave lovely layers and natural-looking highlights. I felt completely refreshed and excited about my new look. The staff is very friendly, and make every effort to make you comfortable. They also have great style ;) I know if I want to ever make a dramatic change in cut or color, I can count on Red Salon. I also know that if I want to keep it simple, but beautiful, I can count on Red Salon. I very much recommend this salon, and have been raving to many friends. read more

This is a wonderful salon with an ambience full of personality and professionalism. My appointment was with Jordan. We conversed shortly about my hair in general and then about what I was expecting out of my service. She listened to, respected, and did exactly what I said. I have really fine hair and expressed my concerns regarding chemicals in hair color. Jordan was very knowledgeable about the products that they use. She gave me some highlights and a toner. It looked, this was a week ago, and still looks amazing!! I 100% love it and will be scheduling with Jordan again when the time comes! read more

The first time I visited this salon was in 2000. I've only seen it improve over the years, and it was already great. The talent here is amazing, and you won't have to spend a fortune. Alison is my hairdresser and it is very easy to talk to her about what I want, and get her feedback. She has been cutting hair for at least 10 years. I was also her customer when she was at Austin's Aveda salon. She really knows her Aveda products and products in general. I've loved every haircut and product recommendation she has made for me. It isn't easy finding a good hairdresser that can do a fantastic haircut, and also has a friendly attitude and witty banter. I've seen her work on Belle Magazine covers several times--impressive! I like knowing that my stylist has also cut hair for Fashion Week in NYC. That makes me feel like I've made the right choice--heck, there are so many hairdressers in Richmond--but very few have made the fashion circuits she has. It's worth mentioning that this salon promotes organics. And not just all the wonderful hair products, but I've seen it in the cleaning supplies they use also. That's a noble lifestyle hard to integrate into a business, but they have done it well! I heard they were mentioned in Elle magazine in Sept. 2010. read more

I'd give this salon 6 stars if I could. The fact that they actually care about how ethical the brands that they use are is amazing in itself, but the benefits of choosing them just kept coming! Went in looking to cut 10 inches and make my wave-curls less maintenance-- a pretty tall request. After talking on the phone, I was paired with Jordan, and I couldn't have been happier. She asked plenty of questions, and really took her time. Cut it dry first, then shampooed, cut it wet, then, the best part, she set my curls *the way I wear them every day* and cut again to make sure they sat perfectly. Amazing experience from beginning to end. Will be recommending to everyone I know. I think I might be the only curly haired person I know who has ever cut 10 inches and not had any second thoughts afterwards. read more

I had wanted to cut my hair off for a long time now and I am very pleased I chose Red salon. I set up my appointment with Alison and she was very attentive, friendly, and personable. When I got to the salon, Alison helped me pick out the best color combination for my hair and we set out on picking out a flattering cut. I wanted to go Winona Ryder short and Alison delivered the exact cut I asked for. Besides the excellent service from Alison, the other staff members were friendly and fun; I could tell they all enjoyed being there. I am so pleased with the color, cut, and the atmosphere of the salon, I will definitely be going back and seeing Alison. Great job, Red salon! read more

My first review update. Having been in the salon now every month since I moved here 10 months ago (darn short hair and its high maintenance), this place really is amazing. I have now grown to appreciate the small space. Alison listens to me and is game when I say I want to take my hair from DARK to platinum blonde. She does it, everyone loves it (even the skeptics who are anti-blonde), and I'm happy to receive the compliments on her behalf. read more

I had a horrible haircut at this salon. I visited the salon due to the positive yelp reviews but was very disappointed with the results. I have very fine, medium length hair. The stylist, Andrea, used a razor on my hair, cutting layers as short as one inch. For almost 3 months, I had 1/3rd of my hair sticking straight up and had to get a keratin treatment as well as another haircut to fix the mess. I do not recommend Andrea for hair cuts. read more

This place is Red for many reasons. 1. Im gonna cut to the chase here and just say it, they died my hair RED! I asked for a "trim around the ears" they did absolutely no trimming or cutting and "accidentally" washed my hair with red dye. I have red hair now and they said they it was already red when I came in. Are they serious? 2. They cut off my ear. My ear began to bleed. Blood is Red. Maybe thats why its called RED Salon. It was an obvious novice as when I asked about my new and "improved" haid color and told her i wanted a trim, she immediately took out her scissors and took a stab at my ear. I was bleeding profusely. 3. Also, it has to do with Red, sorry, this is a bit off topic. The Movie Red sucks, it is simply awful. 4. When the salon receptionist asked for my money, instead of saying greenbacks, she said, "That'll be 25 redbacks?" I simply said, "No, I will not give you, Redbacks, or what you call them. I refuse to pay." Then I walked out and never went back there again. read more

After a bad haircut at another salon (that was mostly my fault - she gave me what I asked for, I just didn't like what I wanted) I was terrified to get it cut again. I waited a few months before finally breaking down and looking for a place to get it cut again. Based on other good reviews and a decent price ($30 for Megan) I called Red Salon Organics. Megan did an AWESOME job. She listened to my complaints with my old haircut and desires and managed to give me exactly what I wanted. And it's fantastic. It looked as good when I washed and styled it myself as it did when she did it for me. That almost never happens. I was so happy with the cut that I scheduled an appointment for a color while I was in the salon. I 100% recommend Red Salon Organics to anyone and will be a frequent client now. read more

I have been going there for two years and the cuts I have gotten have all been first class. I love my stylist. Over the past 6-8 months they have been so busy that my stylist has seemed rushed and I have had a hard time getting an appointment. I had to cancel my regular appointment yesterday and was told that the next appointment I could get was a month away. I hate to go somewhere else to get a haircut however, I am a professional who needs regular haircuts and don't want me or my stylist to be rushed. A month is too long to schedule a regular customer for service. read more
