I went to the Brook Rd location as a walk-in for a wash and curl with Jasmine. I left with a $165 bill after being told I was charged $95 for the wash service plus $55 to detangle my hair. I have never paid this much to get hair washed/curled. The additional cost should have been provided ahead of time. My hair is clean and that's about the extent with respect to the overall finish. 5 STARS ALL AROUND!!!!! When I arrived I was immediately greeted and the energy was great! The salon was clean and COVID friendly. There were seperated stations, everyone wore a mask and the shampoo bowl and other areas were sanitized after each use. The music was also soothing but something you could sing to and enjoy. I was serviced by Monica and she was amazing! I have been natural for 8 years and in that time I have not allowed anyone to do my hair other than to trim my ends. Which has not been done since about May of last year. Monica was punctual, professional, and friendly. She also treated my hair with care and didn't just go in cutting without first asking. I got passion twists done by Monica Jones. She did a great job!! Very professional and even provided feedback on my hair. I will go to her again!! The shop itself is a good vibe. All the stylists are courteous and the music is bomb!! This was my first time getting a weave installation with a frontal and I booked my appointment online with Krystal L. My favorite thing about the site is that it shows all of the prices of every style and there are no surprises when you get to the shop. You also have the option of choosing your stylist. Anyway, back to my stylist Krystal - she is a literal magician and so knowledgeable. She told me everything she was doing every step of the way and never got annoyed with my million questions. Very unprofessional service. The stylist Naimah stopped doing my hair to take another client which resulted in a wait over 30 minutes for her to restart her service on my hair. The installation (sew in) was poorly done that the band and closure were slipping the day of 2/3/22. I reached out to the stylist to fix the error; however, due to phone issues on her part she did not reconnect with me until after almost 2 weeks post installation after an initial agreed date where she wanted to fix my hair while she worked on another client yet again showing poor client and time management. Her message asked first if I still had the sew in which was telling that the installation was poorly done as a sew in should have lasted more than 2 weeks and the fact she figured I had taken it out shows her shoddy workmanship. I was never offered a refund of any kind to compensate for the cost of the poor install. Also, the service was incredibly slow. I arrived at 12:00pm and did not leave until close to 5pm. Almost 5 hours for a sew in is unacceptable. In addition, the stylist pulled the old trick of starting my hair enough that I couldn't leave without looking crazy and unfinished. A complete waste of money as I had to wear a headband or hat to hide the poorly installed closure and slipping band. I would not recommend Naimah for a sew in and she needs to address her time management and professionalism when dealing with clients. I wanted to have my hair braided with short notice. I had a photo of a hairstyle I wanted, and it seemed like every place I looked up either didn't have openings or couldn't recreate the style. I looked up the Image Enhancement Center and saw that you can book appointments online. I like the online booking option, but to be on the safe side I called to book instead and I'm glad I did. The options online were not accurate with the appointment openings they actually had. When I called the shop, I told the woman that I had a photo of the style I wanted. She said photos are helpful and gave me the number to one of the braiders because she was not in the shop at the moment. She said I could text her the photo and ask her any questions. I sent a message to the braider (Monica) who told me she could recreate the style. I told her the girl at the shop already told me an opening Monica had that worked for me, so I was just going to call the shop back and reserve that appointment. Communicating through the text messages and phone calls were quick, professional, and helpful. I even received a reminder text message the day before my hair appointment with my appointment time, the stylist name, and the name of the style I was having done. If you are not use to the area I would recommend getting there a little early to find parking. I found street parking that I did not have to pay for two blocks away that was not far to me. My appointment was on a Thursday evening, and when I walked in, Monica was actually waiting for me. There were no other people having their hair done. Definitely a plot twist, walking into a hair salon and the stylist is not styling someone else's hair when you get there, instead the stylist is waiting for you to arrive. I loved it lol. She said Thursday's are usually not busy. Like I previously stated I was short on time so I actually arrived with my hair washed and detangled. She told me I didn't have to do that because the wash was included with the $55 style charge. She took about 40 minutes to braid and style my hair. Even though I came with my hair washed it was still $55 for the style, but I didn't have time to have my hair washed at the salon which is why I did it before my appointment. I had a great experience at the salon and if I ever want my hair styled in a way I can't do myself, I will definitely schedule another appointment at this salon. Monica did a great job with her braiding skills. I received compliments as soon as I walked onto the streets outside of the salon. In addition to braids, they also specialize in natural hair, sew ins, protective styles, and probably more. Just moved to Richmond and was in desperate need of a stylist. They came up instantly. I loved the fact that I could book online. The styles and prices were given along with different spots available for each stylist. I was so glad I got to see Rachel. She was very welcoming and warm and was attentive not only to my hair but to what I was talking about as well. I discovered Wendy at Image Enhancement Center over a year ago, and was so pleased to find someone who understood my mixed-race, mixed textures hair. Wendy advised me against relaxing, and gave me pointers on how to care my hair between my (too infrequent) visits. My last visit was on Tuesday, it was super easy to set up an appointment. I got there a bit early, was seated and generally looked after by a lively young lady who engaged me in pleasant conversation,. Wendy arrived on the dot, and I placed myself in her hands. The result? A beautifully colored and highlighted head, and an easily managed, stylish cut. It took time-around 3 hours because of all the steps that had to be done, but it was well worth it: I love Wendy, she is friendly and attentive. I live in Chester now, so going back to Richmond city is tedious, but she is my go-to-girl for all my hair needs. Let me just mention that the salon is beautiful, with an eclectic vintage feel and a nice restroom! The other ladies are polite and very sweet, and skilled as well. He gave me a great trim and confirmed the length I wanted cut before he started. We went through a lot of options for color and highlights in the future and I appreciate that he is honest. I had a wonderful experience at IEC last week! My stylist was Dionne and she was very professional and seemed like a genuinely kind person. She was quick and kept me in the loop about everything that was happening with my hair. I had some damaged sections and she made a point to show me the damage and explain why it was healthiest to cut off more than I wanted cut off when I went in so I wasn't shocked by the length when she finished. I'm so happy with how my hair turned out! I also really appreciated that the stylists were very professional when they were speaking to each other and the atmosphere was overall incredibly positive. I traveled to Richmond from NYC for a wedding. I took a chance on the Image Enhancement Center (having no friends who lived in the area to recommend a hairstylist). After reading a few positive reviews, I called and spoke to Monica. I described my hair type (curly). She asked questions and was professional and gave me an appointment and a time. I was hesitant (what black woman isn't when it comes to new stylists and her hair)?!?! But I booked the appointment. I arrived at 1 in Richmond and though Monica was running late, she told me to have a seat and let me know she would be right with me. I felt comfortable, the setting seemed really personable and professional. Monica asked me what my style preferences were and how sensitive I was. She gave me a great wash and made easy, friendly conversation. I was offered drinks and snacks. Now, let me tell you that I was NOT ready for how amazing my hair turned out. Her blow drying and flat iron and curling skills are on point. I didn't even show her a picture! I only gave her a description. Monica is efficient and works magic. Do not have Krystal Lee install your weave if you have alopecia. She lacks the talent, the technique and the vision to install a weave that looks natural. When she finished and I was not satisfied, she became testy with me and proceeded to rush as she made a poor attempt to fix the things I was telling her was not right. The finished look was so bad I had to have it redone by a stylist at another shop the next morning. She also told me it would cost $150.00 but charged me $157.00. When I finally contacted her about refunding half my money since I had to pay someone else to fix the mess I walked out with she flat out refused. Her reasoning was I should have come back for her to make another attempt. I say fool me once shame on you...hopefully you know the rest. I refuse to be a live manikin; learn on someone else. When asked why she charged me the extra $7.00 her response "you used a card; there is a sign posted " I feel she should have at least given me the option by just telling me that. Some people can be so nice when they want your business; than turn very nasty once they get your money. So don't pay if you are not satisfied!!! Bad enough she was 30min late getting me in the chair; I also left with what I thought were two cuts on my neck from her clippers, but the other stylist said they were only abrasions. I am almost 70 years old and have never taken time to give a review; that's how strongly I feel about how I was treated. read more
