On June 5th around 11am I went to the Anchorbox store located at 5889 Gessner in Houston, TX…read more Prior to my visit to the store to purchase a strapping kit, my wife researched the price of the kit from their website to be $44.42 excluding taxes for 3,000 ft 1/2 inch strap. The store charged me $85.42 excluding taxes. I was a bit taken back by the extreme price difference and quoted the online price of $44.42. The young man stated that he has to charge the store price, will notify the owner and apologized. I bought it and left the store. Upon my return to the office, I looked up the price once again and the price of new elevated price. Pretty quick to make that change. Unfortunately for me I have no proof other than when I called spoke to whom I presumed to be a manager he, acknowledge that he adjusted the price within 30 minutes of me leaving the store and returning at my office. For clarity of my issue I have included my paid receipt and screen print of their website with the "updated" price. This is NOT a 10,20, or 30% difference. This is in excess of 50% and that price was still effective on their website when I arrived for my purchase. The change was made after I paid their "store" price. I find this highly deceptive and flat out wrong. I realize all costs are up. They knew there was discrepancy, and I am confident that many other brick and mortar shops would honor the price as stated on-line.

Seriously, who buys boxes when they are looking to move? Honestly, I've never had to buy boxes,…read moreusually, I get my cardboard boxes from dollar stores. However, this time I really didn't want to beg for no boxes. I said, let me do it the right way like every other person in life. I walked into a place that you would think would have roaches everywhere because everybody knows cockroaches love cardboard boxes, but hey, they are nowhere to be found. Surprisingly. The owner and his wife run the Anchor Box Company on Fuqua and they were the nicest individuals I met that day. The owner he explained to me how buying boxes were since I was curious if I could buy a bundle like 5 for $10 or so. Although, he told me that it is priced individually. I wasn't interested in buying boxes anymore since I wasn't sure what estimated of boxes I needed instead, I bought a roll of clear tape. The tape was $1.87; I figured a decent price for tape and such good quality. Also, the owner printed out me some informational forms about the prices, what size box is needed for what task. Free of charge. Such a great neighborhood guy. From the outside, you would think this place hardly gets service, but the day I came everybody came in and it got crowded real quick. The store is set up like a backward L. Spacious in the back and cramped in the front, but cardboard boxes everywhere. No issues because everyone got serviced really quick.

UPDATE: Since my initial review, in which I wrote of the insults from the manager of West Fuqua for…read morepayment issues beyond my control, my wish to disassociate from having to do further business with them, her refusal to honor my request to offer a new contract in my relative's name (the true owner of the property for whom I'd co-signed long ago), and who said that we'd have to arrive in person to do that, even though the contract was mailed to me for MY signature, my dealings with West Fuqua only got much worse (with the exceptions noted below) before this ordeal finally came to an end. On November 27 I'd filed a complaint with the Better Business and made the Dec. payment, AFTER which I received a notice of lease termination and request to vacate from Linda Nunn. No reason was ever disclosed. Subsequently the BBB having received no response from West Fuqua told me I might have better luck on my own. So I found the name of someone listed online as co-owner of the facility, sent her a letter, and contacted her via Linkedin. She said she was no longer involved in day to day management and said it was owned by a corporation but couldn't tell me the name. She didn't acknowledge receipt of my letter. I made the January payment, and the due date to vacate came and went, as I did not wish to chance the multiple contacts, during the height of a pandemic, that going there to vacate the unit would've surely entailed. And in February I received no late rental notice. But to my complete surprise, On Feb 17, I received an email from a Norman Samuel who said he was the owner of the facility. He said the person I'd contacted via Linkedin had forwarded my letter to him. He offered to do what Ms. Nunn said couldn't be done, send a contract for my relative to sign, then later wrote that wouldn't occur because my relative has a mental disability. Not wishing any further involvement with them, I told him to dispose of the property. Then in a Mar. 8 email I learned that charges for rent plus late fees were still being assessed. When I asked why hadn't I received late notices, Mr. Samuel said because he told them not to send it. Objecting to those charges I asked that they not be assessed. That request was ignored. On Mar. 10 he did however offer to send my relative's personal items at his expense and did so. When I inquired about the accruing charges he suggested any charges above what the auction brought would be written off as a "bad debt." Not wanting to have "bad debt" or any other obligations to West Fuqua after auction, I sent a check to cover all charges even though I questioned some of them. He arranged to hold the auction in 2 weeks, and immediately sent me the proceeds from the auction (minus 10%). In closing, Mr. Samuel had asked that I consider adding a positive comment to my initial review, and so I have. I've added a star because, though my relative wasn't offered a contract due to his mental disability, and my requests to not be charged rental and late fees after the end date of the notice to vacate were ignored, he did send back personal items at his expense and arranged a timely auction and payment of the proceeds. However, overall, my ordeal with West Fuqua Self Storage has been such that I've come to deeply regret having ever gotten involved with them. As a whole, it clearly ranks among the worst decisions I've ever made.

I called UHAUL on Louisiana on a Friday, assuming that I could just pick up a van on Saturday morning. Chris answered my call, and then gave me the bad news ... Lots of people are moving on the weekends, and so all the vans and trucks were taken. He suggested I contact the UHAUL location on South Main. Then, to make sure that a vehicle was available for me, he offered to reserve a van for me, at the other location. How amazing is that?! His store wouldn't get the business, but he wanted to help me! Chris is personable, knowledgeable, upbeat, and eager to help. I could tell he was swamped (I had the feeling he was the only one working in the office), yet he spent plenty of time with me, ensuring that I would get a van and could go to work. Kudos to Chris and the Louisiana UHAUL! (Unfortunately, my experience at the South Main location was NOT positive at all. See separate review.)

Two units, and the original truck as well. The truck we got out of the downtown location as they were out at the moment on Louisiana St. NO PROBLEM! They helped us get the truck to Midtown, set us up with 1 unit and when we realized that we couldn't get everything done in 1, they were there for us and had the 2nd one ready (right next door to the original) in 15 minutes. The security is awesome, the cleanliness is amazing, I cannot speak more highly of Jennifer and her ENTIRE staff. There is obviously a great amount of care and training for them as the culture of the store is refreshing for any self storage place we have EVER used. Ask anyone in the shop, and they are most accommodating, friendly, efficient, and above all respectful. As most times you're using self storage, it's not just because you have a surplus of items and want to store them (yes that does happen, but not the norm, as I have noticed) it's because you are in a stressful situation (moving top 5 most stressful events in life). Jennifer and her team are there to help in any possible way to help with your move, storage, and payments (online, over the phone, or in person). Truly she's a class act, and get staff follow suit as she is obviously one heck of a leader. Promotion is DEFINITELY needed for her and her entire staff as she moves up the ladder. I will not go anywhere else to have my storage needs met moving forward.
