I was not prepared for the choices and quality so now I'm on the couch thinking about restraint and my lack of will power! I heard about this place from a friend who goes there frequently. The hours are limited and I really think that is what makes the quality so high. They cook food fresh and it doesn't sit long because the place is always packed. They had fried and BBQ chicken, pork cops and shrimp along with a ton of vegatables and sides, all freshly cooked. There is nothing fancy about this place, just a plain decor with more great food than most people are able to even sample in 1 sitting. This is good place for old style family southern food. A very hearty selection of meats, vegetables, breads, pancakes and fruits. Not to mention the delicious cobbler. Don't forget to ask your server for a scoop of ice cream to enjoy with your cobbler or alone. The buffet was well stocked and the staff were kind and attentive. I have been seeing others rave about this buffet in St. Mays. It looked good from their pictures. I finally went at closing time (3 minutes until 2:00pm). Not only did they welcome me in, the food was excellent, especially for a buffet. Everything was seasoned so well! The restaurant was so clean, many buffets are not, & the service was exceptional. I cannot brag enough about this place. Regular buffet price is $16.00, while the senior discount price I received was $15.00. Extremely well worth the money & time to try here even if you don't go for buffets! Will be back that's for sure. read more

As a visiting Californian who heavily favors Fred's Soul Food buffet in Brandon, FL ... this place was pretty ok. Large dining room, small buffet spread but some good options. Fried chicken was good, my preference would be to have more seasoned salt in the batter and a bit more juicy but overall good. Greens were a little too salty but still good. Mac & cheese lacked creaminess so not my favorite...yams and potato salad were delicious! Bread rolls reminded me of the frozen yeast rolls you buy from Sam's club. My overall take - not bad but not the greatest. Kingsland is a small town with all the fast food options you can think of so nice to visit a home made place even though it's not the best I'v had. Salads, probably at least a dozen vegetables, beans, rice, usually at least five different meats (including fish and shrimp) to choose from. Pudding, pies and cake for dessert as well. Our senior citizens wanted to go, party or 11 went on Tues. And everyone was very pleased. Our waitress served us promptly and was very courteous. We order our drinks and everyone headed to the food. Nobody was disappointed. After we ate, we were not rushed to leave, so we had a little time to socialize and drink our last iced tea. It was all very good. read more

Traveling through the area, we turned to Yelp for somewhere local for lunch. Thus, we ended up at the Lunchbox. Apparently they relocated from a previous location & we got rerouted. Eventually we found it. The decor is simple with lots of lunch boxes set around the room. You walk in & pay first. A waitress stopped us after we paid & asked what we wanted to drink. We proceeded to the buffet to get food & went to find a seat. We saw the waitress take drinks to an empty table on the other side of the restaurant. We didn't know if we were supposed to get up & move or stay where we were. So we stayed & another server came up & asked what we wanted to drink, so we stayed where we were. The process was just kinda confusing. The food: overall it wasn't bad. There were several things that were yummy, others that were not. The mashed potatoes were almost black because they had so much pepper in them - I couldn't eat it. My hubby got what he though was beef/gravy - it was liver. He basically threw up when he took a bite. So keep in mind that the daily meats are listed behind the register & the items are not labeled on the buffet. All I need to say is FABULOUSLY FABULOUS HOME Cooking. This little place was found on a recommendation and wow they were right. There was 6 of us and 1 child and the cost was $60 for the all you could eat buffet. Everyone tried a little of all of the items on the buffet. There was baked and fried chicken, pork chops, fall off the bone ribs and the sides of veggies was endless. The restaurant also had 7up biscuits which were very good. There was also a salad bar and a dessert bar. Our waitress was very good about keeping all of the drinks refilled. The restaurant even gave us a cup of water for the dog. The decor is rustic with different lunch boxes all over the walls. I give this place 5 stars for the amazing home cooked food. No frozen stuff here. Okay...it's been a few days since our first visit and I wasn't sure how I wanted to rate this place, especially after seeing the current rating and all of the raves, but for me it's a 2 star (I've had better). A wide open room with the buffet setup near the back and the cashier in the back right. Pay her and off you go, then find a seat...pretty simple. The first thing that caught my eye was the oily (buttery?) sheen in the vegetable liquids and then the, no kidding, fry oil running off of the freshly, deep fried pork chops that came out from the kitchen. We went for a pork chop, a piece of fried chicken and some veggies. While the actual taste wasn't bad, the salt level in everything got our attention. Secondly, the chops had been cooked a tad too long and were tough to cut and chew. The employees we encountered were friendly enough. A group of friends came here for lunch and then to ride the St. Mary's Express Train next. We came from Jacksonville. We had a reserved table ready for us when we got there. It was only something like $10.45 for my drink and buffet lunch. I tried almost all of the wonderful veggies and a pork chop and one rib. I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was so tasty. Then, I went back to get a salad and an Oreo desert. I also tried a small bite of the peach cobbler. Kudos to the Chef! The sweet tea was perfect. The second room we were in did get a little bit warm. We talked with, I believe she was the Owner-but I could be wrong, for a few minutes before we left. She was very nice. The Waitresses kept checking on us. I left a nice tip, because they were good. I will have to bring my family and make a day trip out of this, She also told me they are about to expand more. Way to go! I highly recommend the place. Great Southern food. I hear it can get a bit crowded on Sunday's, so I say go on another day. Went here for Thanksgiving holiday buffet. They reserved a table for us, greeted us on arrival, and were super friendly during the duration of the meal. All the food is home-cooked southern goodies like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, awesome mac n cheese, green beans, etc... like if you have a grandmother who's lived in Georgia her life would make. We went for breakfast on Saturday was well worth it, 9 dollars each for breakfast buffet. Everything was great and we had a little and more than a little of everything. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The biscuits and sausage gravy were great. The bacon was good The scrambled eggs were real eggs and done just right. Great table service as well. This place is great!! I usually don't like Southern food, but this was great! It was super flavourful endless buffet. The peach cobbler was delicious and so was everything else. The fish was delicious (I usually hate fish) and so were their potatoes. Everything tasted homemade, nothing from a box. There were healthy options like soup and a variety of veggies to choose from. The waitress was also very nice. Just to warn you, there is a long line when the shop first opens. I was surprised at how popular it was and how many people were waiting at the door. Although there was a giant rush, the cashier was super quick but nice! We probably waited for like 5 minutes tops. The only minor problem was the exiting and entering. We were completely new so we had no idea where to exit so we walked out the front door... it wasn't bad it was just confusing. We went on a Monday so I can't imagine how it was on a Friday. read more
