SERVICE: We had a reservation in the Clementine, and our member friend was greeted by name before we even got to the check-in desk. We had friendly, attentive service throughout our meal! FOOD: The Clementine menu offers classics you can expect to see year-round, as well as rotating classics. Of course, the seasonal offerings caught my eye! Tip: You can get some of the items they offer in the more casual bar in the basement up here! We ordered their famous cheese curds from that menu for starter. We split a wedge salad which was delicious and crisp. For dinner, I ordered the Elk Osso Buco and it was divine. Slow roasted to perfection and falling off the bone, unique vanilla parsnip puree, and delicious coffee roasted carrots complimented perfectly. Others in my party ordered the filet steak which was cooked to perfection, and the Apple Cider Glazed Pork Belly - which was maybe our favorite of the night with its bright Asian-inspired flavors and kohlrabi pear slaw. I did the Monona Terrace tour in the middle of a 3 day Frank Lloyd Wright themed trip to Wisconsin…read more While the tour was interesting it was a bit underwhelming compared to my tours of Taliesin, Unitarian Meeting House and SC Johnson administration building and Research Tower. The tour is reasonably priced, although I did end up paying $6 for parking at Monoma Terrace. Check-in for the tour is in the gift shop which is nicely set up with a nice selection of Frank Lloyd Wright items, Madison items and some other items. I ended up as the only one on my tour so I got a very nice one on one experience. My tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and personable. I did get a nice tour through the various parts of the Community and Convention Center; they were setting up for a number of college graduations. The center has a wide variety of rooms and areas, including a great plaza and garden on the roof. The center takes advantage of its lake front location and in true Wright fashion it brings the outside into the building in interesting and effective ways. Monona Terrace went through a number of designs and intended purposes during Frank Lloyd Wright's lifetime, unfortunately it was not built until well after his death so while the outside follows closely to Wright's designs the interior was revised by members of the Taliesin Fellowship, the result is a very nice building and one that seems to work very well, but it seems to be missing a bit of the Frank Lloyd Wright magic and wow factor. There are a couple of places where there is a bit of that sparkle, but as a Frank Lloyd Wright tour it falls a bit short for me. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright completist or have some extra time Monona Terrace is worth a visit, but if you are planning a trip for the Frank Llyod Wright Wisconsin trail and need to prioritize other site might be worth considering.

It is difficult to figure out if it is in the midst of a renovation but it certainly needs a major one. Given this deficit I have downgraded this facility to an overall 4 star rating.

We chose the Uni Club because of its vintage vibe, the price (the rental includes a year membership and was WAY cheaper than any of the places I was looking at in Madison & Milwaukee) and their flexibility. This was especially important for me, as I can be a bit of a snob about food and drinks. And they blew me away with this-- I had requested that they bring in oysters for me and my husband to share, along with a couple of other special food requests. They also let me select the wine I wanted to feature (because I didn't want Canyon Ridge or some other generic wine like that)- we ended up going with their wines they had in house because they were all amazing! They were so good about communicating with us and working to make the day exactly how we wanted it. They set up all of our decorations for us, Kyle stuck around the whole night to ensure everything went really well and everyone was raving about how wonderful the spot was that we chose. The fact that the ceremony AND the reception were in the same building was really neat. The turnaround from "chapel" to "dance floor" was fast, too!
