I found this restaurant quite a while ago while out running errands. For some reason, I could not recall the name or location as I was new to the area. I was out again last night and found the restaurant by accident and was so happy to be able to now make note of the name and location. Both times I was greeted by a very friendly host and to follow with the same from my waiter. Food was just as delicious as last time. This is a nice restaurant. We moved back to WI from Indiana after 25 years and ordered take out from Swagat. We had several items we ordered and they were ready on time. The food was delicious and more importantly, the portions were admirably generous. We had chicken biryani that was authentic and with excellent garnishes. The saag paneer (spinach and cheese cubes) was well spiced and apportioned with large amount of cheese cubes. Other items were excellent too. This is an authentic Indian restaurant with well sized servings. Finally someone could best inflammation. More after we eat at the restaurant! read more

No complaints. Inside is fancy. I thought it would be more expensive but the prices were average. The food was top tier. Got samosa (which comes with 2), Goat biryani and lamb curry. Each entree comes with white basmati rice. Ate garlic naan with the curry. The garlic naan was on point. Service was quick and attentive. Staff was great. The food all together was about a 9.2. This place is a gem! I was so happy when they opened this place up in Sun Prairie about a year ago and I had to give it a try. I went to Swagat about a month ago with a coworker and we both enjoyed our meals. The interior is nice and modern and it's honestly one of the nicest and most ambient Indian restaurants I've been to. I had the chicken tikka and the chicken was very tender and the sauce was so decadent. I also had a garlic naan which was perfect for dipping into the rich sauce. My coworker had the lamb shank and she also enjoyed it. I will definitely be back here a lot! read more

Excellent Food by an excellent waiter. The menu had a huge variety that satisfied all for of us. The tandoori chicken was skillfully prepared and very juicy. my Lamb was excellent with just the right amount of spice and the portions were quite large. The cheese naan was delicious. The place when you first walk in feels so elegant. You are greeted with a smile and a "hello". Our server was both funny and fast paced. He got drinks back to our table within 5-10 minutes of ordering and our food within 15-20 minutes. Again service was great. Now to the even better part: the food. We ordered the lamb masala, chicken biryani, garlic and cheese naan, and samosas. We left so full AND had left overs. The food and the waiters were amazing. This was my first experience at Swagat and the environment is relaxing. I stopped in on Sunday evening and enjoyed the following: Samosas, Panpuri, and goat curry. Everything was delicious! Definitely will be back to experience more tasty food. Overall a great experience. The restaurant itself is very nice looking. The staff is nice. The only complaint I have is we were almost done with our food before she came back to check on us. I prefer to be checked on after a few minutes to make sure our food is correct and taste good. Etc. the food did taste wonderful. It could have been spicier. I'm use to ordering medium at Indian restaurants and if being fairly spicy. But here I guess I should have ordered it spicy. Would definitely come back. read more

First, the restaurant decor is beautiful. We had a group of 6 and received great service. We ordered a selection of apps and entrees and then shared them. All were great. Loved the cauliflower, mango spice cocktail and honey chili chicken. If you are not sure you'll like Indian food, then try Swagat. Gave these guys a 2nd chance. Again they skimped on the expensive ingredients. Our one dish literally had 5 shrimp and the other very little fish. Flavor decent but they charge a premium and are clearly intentionally skimping on the most delicious portions. Take out for two was $70. We won't be back unfortunately. read more

I'd honestly give this a 3. It was good, but overly expensive for not that good of food. I mean dont get me wrong, it was great, but the portions of panneer were much smaller portions then I'd like, not enough for each naan in the small portions I like. It was 17$ dollars for each panneer, it was good, but not 17$ for a portion that big good. Almost choked on one of the seed things in the Mango Lasse. Good for the most part! I am really torn on how to review this place since I was really excited Sun Prairie was getting a more upscale Indian restaurant...the restaurant itself is beautiful, but there were some issues we dealt with (keep in mind this was the third day of them being open)... My husband & I made a reservation for 7:45 on Saturday just in case it was busy. When we walked in we were promptly & happily greeted by the host; my eyes were immediately drawn to the swanky decor with velour seating and high ceilings with mellow lighting and mirrors. We were seated at our table right away, and the restaurant was pretty full but there was still empty tables scattered around. We waited a little over 15 minutes before anyone came to our table to take any kind of an order from us...but at least we were served glasses of water right away. We ended up ordering cocktails and Samosa as an appetizer. I loved the lychee martini so much I had two of them. My husband tried their version of an old fashioned and it lived up to its description in the menu - I enjoyed it but not sure if it's for everyone. The samosa were delicious, would definitely recommend. For our dinner, I ordered Dhaniya Chicken Curry because it came with a cilantro sauce, however I couldn't really taste the cilantro. My husband had Chicken Tikka Masala and I enjoyed that more. Both dishes were served with rice, and we also ordered garlic naan which was very good. After dinner we were ready for to-go boxes and our bill...but alas we waited about another 15 minutes until someone realized we were sitting there and were ready to leave (and actually we were the only table left in our area so I'm not sure how we were overlooked). A different server finally noticed and came over to take care of us. So here's where things go south...about half hour after we got home, my stomach felt like I had had third helpings at a thanksgiving dinner (and I literally ate only about 1/3 of my meal). I chalked it up to drinking too much water at the restaurant since we waited so long before and after our meal...but then my husband wasn't feeling too well about 4am (I'm talking major #2 toilet issues)...I knew it obviously was the food. I felt better in the morning but once I started moving and got going, I too felt my demise to the porcelain gods. And I'm talking allllll day for both of us...like I'm afraid to leave the house The issues we both had are not normal and we actually eat Indian food pretty regularly. We both need to take a break from this restaurant (unfortunately....unless it's just for cocktails!) and I'm not sure if you can talk my husband into ever going back anytime soon... read more

I was really disappointed in my latest visit to Swagat in Sun Prairie. I ordered the lamb Biryani and the meat was either fatty or tough in the same bowl. I was also tasting chunks of spices, whether it be star of anise, cardamom or bay leaf. The waitstaff was slow and unmotivated proving poor service. Dreadful service experience. Food was average! But We were lately refused separate checks.We figured out all of our tickets individually and then were also refused To do individual payments. In addition to the 18% gratuity which I don't mind being added to my check as I feel that more restaurants should do that, although Not for a party as small as 6, which ours was. We were also charged a 7% surcharge and a 3% processing fee. So. On top of our Semi reasonable food price,. We were charged an additional 28%? And our waiter was just simply Unpleasant. We had multiple servers at our table multiple times. So I guess I'm not even sure which person was actually getting the 18% tip? Maybe that's why they add the extra 10%? read more

This is elevated Indian fare--not your typical American-style buffet Indian food. Each dish I've had at this location of Swagat has been exquisite in both presentation and flavor. The ambiance of their space is beautiful; it makes me feel like I've been transported overseas. It pains me to write this, but if you love the West Madison Swagat location, this is not the restaurant for you. At first, I thought the only difference was a condensed menu, which I thought would be fine; I figured it was simpler, to make it easier in the kitchen while maintaining the quality that Swagat is known for. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. The restaurant is so different in so many ways, it should not even share the name. I've ordered a few times from this location, but for purposes of the majority of this review, I'm going to focus on our most recent dine-in experience. I will say I was pleasantly surprised when we called ahead for a party of 6 and they were able to seat us immediately. This was drastically improved from when I ordered carryout on opening day, two hours in advance, and I left the restaurant with my food an hour or so after the scheduled time. My wife ordered paneer tikka masala. The paneer itself continues to be quite good, very fresh and large pieces. You get three pieces in the dish here, which are larger than the four you get at the west location (which used to be five), so it evens out. The sauce, however, is quite different between locations, and it is not really the creamy orange sauce one comes to expect with a "tikka masala" dish. It had a lot more texture to it, and it differed from the chicken tikka masala ordered during the same visit. It was fine, but it's not at at all the same sauce or experience as you get at the west location, which is far superior in texture and flavor (and for $2 cheaper!). Two of my friends ordered chicken tikka masala. The sauce with this is better than the paneer, but it still doesn't live up to the Swagat name. An odd thing here is the use of dark meat in the dish. Ordinarily, chicken tikka masala is chunks of white meat only. I thought it was perfectly edible, actually, but for someone else who doesn't care for dark meat and orders a dish that you would expect anywhere else to be prepared a certain way, it was a bit disappointing for the change here. Again, the sauce isn't quite the same as at the other location, and again, the price here is $2 more. Next is the cheese naan. My favorite kind of naan anywhere I go, this again just doesn't meet the expectations set by the west location, where the naan is quite thick and fluffy and stuffed with crumbled paneer. In Sun Prairie, the naan is thinner, not as soft, and I'm not sure what they're doing for cheese, but it's different. It's got a yellow hue to it, and it's meltier, as thought they're just melting some shredded American cheese inside or something. Admittedly, it's a step up from that, but that's the best way I can describe it. The food all around is *okay*, but it's overall just a different experience from the west location, and not for the better. The prices are higher and the food is not as good. I feel they are more concerned with aesthetics than the food. What do I mean? Well, the building is beautiful -- I love the location itself. It's very nice and modern, quite different from the feel of a typical Indian restaurant. But when it comes time to the food, like the mango shrimp I ordered, the value is in the presentation of the food, like the mango drizzle and side salad, not in the quality itself, which was skimpy for the price and also unfortunately not very hot (temperature) even -- and another case of expectations not matching reality, since ordinarily a "mango ___" is a dish with plenty of sauce. I guess this one was my bad, since it is listed under "tandoori specials" but regardless it's confusing to have dish not be like it would be elsewhere, much like the chicken in the CTM differed. Drink-wise, I tried their non-alcoholic jungle juice, which on paper sounded quite good but to me was just very salty and undrinkable. I did ask for a mango lassi instead, which the waiter swapped out for me, which was a nice gesture. I did really appreciate that. And the lassi was good! The dried mango bits on top was a nice little touch and something I'd rather see than whipped cream on top, so that's a change for the better from what one often sees. Overall, I'm just disappointed. I had been looking forward to this restaurant opening for months. Swagat (west) and Amber are my favorite in the area, but with living in Sun Prairie, I don't get to those very often. I've given this one a go a handful of times, and something disappoints each time. I hope things change with time, and I'll likely give them another go months down the line, but for the time being I'm going to have to go back to Maharana. It's not the best in Madison, but it's more traditional and for a fairer price, and you get what you expect when ordering from or dining there. read more

Delicious food and nice and spicy...there's a rating system (1-5) for how much spice you want which we liked. The 3 was plenty spicy for me but my husband got a 4 and liked that. Very friendly staff also. I think the atmosphere is nice but could maybe use a bit more Indian looking decor I guess, it's a bit modern looking for me. The drink menu is fun as well! read more
