--Richelle E. Goodrich, Making Wishes
Our adventures took us walking from Westminster Abby through St. James Park, past Buckingham Palace, down Constitution Hill St, and to the Wellington Arch. All the while, the cold, blustery wind whipped sharp and spiky shrapnel off the trees and into our eyes and noses, irritating everything everything and sending our allergies into high gear.
We needed a reprieve. We needed a snack. We needed to pee.
And there, to our right, shining like a drab white and sandy beige beacon of refuge was The Lodge Cafe. Two small rooms inside housed a grab-and-go snack area for sandwiches, drinks and chips (crisps); and one that housed a self-serve pizza and flatbread station. You could order soups and warm sandwiches from a cashier in the same room.
There was limited seating upstairs in three small rooms that seated about 20 in total, but still cozy and warm.
We shared a vegetable soup there while we nursed our sore eyes, noses and throats. It was good, and hit the spot.
Hubs also purchased a grab-n-go Chicken Peri Peri sandwhich. He inhaled it before I could get a photo.
After a while, it got busy and we freed up our seats for more weary tourists. Onward, to Kensington Palace! read more
