They sell things for model trains close to the entryway so i'm not suprised. as far as it being dusty well it might be a little dusty, however its a model shop not a restaurant and i think it gives the store a very underground quality. I did see a large room which was unoccupied when i went in and im assuming that was the track. Didn't take a look in there because i was there to sell my RC cars and not get into it. It took a little while for someone to help me, but that was because they were very busy helping other people. I waited patiently for about 10-15 minutes and then the store owner (while still helping another customer) greeted me and said he would be right with me. Once he was finished with the previous customer he came up to me and we discussed business. I had never met him but his name was George and he said he owned the store. He seemed very laid back and was very matter of fact. He wasn't trying to sell me anything which i liked. He was just trying to help me get what i wanted and cut through all the BS of a normal salesperson which i personally appreciated. He showed me some products gave me a brief overview, offered me (what i considered to be more than a fair trade in value for my RC cars) and told me to think about what he has in the store do some research and get back to him next week. Overall i would give it a 5/5 stars for three main reasons. 1) They are one of the few stores left in this type of business that will do anything with used goods, and thats very good for people like me who did things on a whim and then don't have a use for them anymore. They are like a play it again sports hobby store and i love it. 2) They weren't trying to sell me anything. 3) They were very knowledgable when talking about with all of the products they showed me. Would recommend to anyone interested in R/C Cars, Drones, models, microscopes, or general hobby kits ( i saw some paint by numbers and other random model/art kits). Neat store.

This is the reincarnation of JP Trains and Hobbies formerly located in Latham, NY. I came here on…read morevacation and was pleasantly surprised with the shop. The good: compared to the old store, it is well lit, the aisles are wider, and it is easier to find things. The hours are probably more regular as well. The bad: the inventory is the same as the previous store, but with even less O, S, and G scales. So, if you are an N or HO modeler you will find this store is nearly the same as the previous one. However, if you model in some of the less-popular scales you won't find much here aside from some scratchbuilding supplies. The prices seemed reasonable. Still... the area neads hobby shops, and I will do what I can to support this one. Check it out!

As a forty-year collector of model vehicles, primarily 1/18 scale resin and diecast, numbering into…read morethe thousands, I have had only one other occasion to purchase from Mint Models. The first transaction was totally without drama. My reason for limited patronage is due to the fact that Mint Models carries some of the best, and sometimes expensive, offerings from a variety of manufacturers and unfortunately most are out of my budget. Still, it is fun to visit their beautiful, comprehensive website and dream. On occasion I will treat myself to a model a little more than my usual price range as I like to sample one or two examples from different manufacturers to scrutinize their detail. I have a handful of Exoto, CMC, BBR, MR, etc. but most of my large collection is moderately priced. I was interested in the Mclaren Speedtail as it was featured at Mecum Monterey this year and I had been looking at a future Top Speed release. In my search, I found Mint Models offering a Tecnomodel version, in stock, and in my color preference. This model is normally about twice as much as the Top Speed but Mint Models had it on sale at a HUUUUUGE discount. Almost too good to be true. Having never owned a Tecnomodel, I decided to go ahead and purchase the model. Although I had trouble having my account identified in their system, likely because I hadn't purchased from them in such a long time, once in, my order was received. I placed my order in the midnight hour on the West Coast and Mint Models had it on its way within a few hours of their morning opening on the East Coast. I only paid for standard shipping but the model arrived far earlier than expected. I have to admit to having anxiety about all my model orders arriving safely when coming cross country and have received boxes that looked like they had been dropped from a five story building probably embarrassing the delivery driver who had to deliver them. Not in this case. Mint Models double boxed and double "popcorned" my model and it arrived in absolutely perfect shape. Once I unboxed the model, it did not disappoint as it was beautifully finished, detailed and even came in a display case that I was not aware of. As nice as the model was, Mint Model's service was even better. I have to admit, in my reconnecting with Mint Models, I was a little concerned with some of the negative reviews but took a chance anyway. I am in the habit of never giving bad reviews in favor of giving no review at all. If you have an ugly baby I won't stretch the truth and say it's cute, I'll say nothing. Fortunately, with this purchase I'm not in that position and felt inspired to write this "short novel." I'm sorry some people felt they had a bad experience but I can only speak of mine and in forty years of collecting and sourcing my models from dozens of vendors, this is one of the best if not "the best" transaction I have participated in. If I can find it in my budget, I won't hesitate to purchase from Mint Models again.

I needed to get some electronic components for a circuit project. Radio Shack is one of the few…read moreplaces around you can get that kind of thing. They people that work there are always kind of dorky. Im convinced that too much time with technology saps a man of his testosterone and renders him soft and unlikely to hook up much. In turn that leaves our Radio Shack employee more time to look at computer porn, get softer, and worry about what version of andriod is running on your phone. Needless to say this kid did not know too much about what I was looking for. They had some of the stuff, but they are moving away from that kind of thing to cell phones and cameras. Circuitry is what most of our modern world is made of, and remarkably tons of this stuff to interact with circuits is out there waiting to be discovered.
