Fooled by the ratings. I nearby and chose this spot for a quick ice cream drop it. It was busy. I didn't really see a flavor like cookies n cream but was suggested Cookie Monster. At first taste, I was turnt off. Barely any taste and felt chalky. I went jn a store right after tasting it. Pricey. I could care less if it melted or not. Meh... read more

The Local Scoop - Birthday Cake ice cream in a waffle cone - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

Awesome ice cream, friendly staff and owner came out while they were closed for deep cleaning and gave us ice cream!

I go by this place all the time, and finally was able to go inside to try. It's a small ice cream shop located in a shared shopping center. There is plenty of shared parking. The staff are friendly. They have a whole case of dairy free options, which is amazing. I was able to try the peanut colada and the lemon lime basil ended up getting them in the lime basil which was a nice treat. Some of the toppings you desire may be in the back. The prices are a little bit steep. Will definitely come back and try again another day. Hope you enjoy. read more

It's National Ice Cream Day and they advertised buy one get one free waffle cones. Never been here so we picked them to try. Brought the fam and confirmed the cones were buy one get one. We got a blonde and a sea salted caramel then a scoop of butter pecan in a cup and two scoops of birthday cake in a cup. Our total was $23. I don't think we got our buy one get one. They were packed and just two people working so I didn't sweat it because they were working their tails off with the neverending line. Ice cream is delicious. If only we lived closer but it was a nice trip from Harrisburg. There's seating outside that's spread out. Located in a shopping plaza. Lots of families were out. read more

Looking for a sweet treat? This spot is ideal. And, they are taking COVID-19 very seriously. The staff members were very friendly. So many good flavors to choose from... I landed on sea salted caramel and wasn't disappointed. One scoop tightly packed in a cup was sufficient to end my long day. The ice cream is super rich and very flavorful! read more

Phenomenal reeses peanut butter ice cream!! I found the Local Scoop pop up shop in downtown Matthews (by Moe's and Pizza Peel). The amazing peanut butter goodness was delicious! So creamy pb ice cream and plentiful with reeses peanut butter and chocolate inside!! They did a half scoop of cookie dough in my one scoop also which is a wonderful way to eat two flavors in one serving. The cookie dough was yummy too but reeses peanut butter is my favorite!! Look for the pop up in Matthews and eat some yummy local ice cream!! They have plans to put up sun shades for the summer too. Great service and friendly owner!! Also-- Excellent non-diary ice cream!! I'm a true ice cream lover who's been relegated to non-dairy ice cream by lactose intolerance in adulthood, and I miss the real deal. However the six non-dairy opting at Local Scoop is so exciting! I tried Rocky Road and Cookie Butter (all made with coconut milk) and both flavors were refreshing and tasty! I tried several of the other non-dairy ones--including the I Can't Believe its not Gluten, which was good but not enough chocolate for me. Rocky Road was a blend of chocolate and walnuts and it's creamy chocolate got me! The cookie butter flavor is like the speculous Dutch cookie butter from my favorite grocery. Yum!! They make everything in the store so I imagine the dairy ice cream is also delicious read more

Service was good- workers were very nice. Ice cream was pretty good, but melted quickly.

This was not supposed to be my lunch, but I'm here now. I was in the area conducting a tasting at the local Total Wine in Ballantyne somehow Yelp suggested local ice cream shop to me, and so this was only one minute away from where I was. When I walked in, it smelled so delicious. The decor is very inviting. I told Mary that it was my first time here and she allow me to taste all the flavors that I was interested in but because I'm a overachiever I decided to go with three scoops instead of two and I let Mary, select my third scoop, it is like a peanut butter Oreo flavor. It is absolutely delicious. This place is wonderful. The customer service is by far better than I expected! The cashier educated me that the ice cream is made in house. I was going to use apple pay but they have cash app pay as well so I used it instead! I tried non dairy chocolate coconut, dairy butter pecan and the mystery peanut butter oreo. Can you say yum? read more

My folks went here once and said the ice cream was good. During the holidays, we kind of went on a mini ice cream spree trying tons of local places to see if they were good. After enjoying Thai food, we decided to stop by and get some ice cream. This is in the same plaza as Starbucks, Stein Mart, The Fresh Market, and Home Depot. You can access a side entrance to Home Depot, which is next to The Local Scoop. There's a good number of parking spots for the plaza, depending on when you go. As we came a little after 5-6 PM, the place wasn't super busy and the two staff members working quickly got our order together. I tried the honey vanilla in a cup, while my dad got strawberry, and my mom got black cherry. Texture is smooth and the flavors were well balanced. It wasn't a cheap option, but the quality of the ice cream was very good. The spoons are a little flimsy if you're eating a pretty packed scoop of ice cream, but you can always bring your own. read more

Accidentally stumbled into this place while doing errands... Noticed that like Jeni's Splendid, this ice cream parlor also served this "Almond Brown Butter" flavor that I'm near addicted to (very similar, but creamier...almost fresher?). This parlor also served a "Flight", a set of 3 scoops, with waffle cones as accompaniments. Hmmm...I began to wonder if all ice cream parlors followed the same trend? Anyway, I tried Vanilla Bean, Almond Brown Butter and Pumpkin Spice...and I liked the Almond Brown Butter the best. Again, I might even say it's JUST as good as Jeni's...in a different way! However, I wasn't too impressed with the Vanilla Bean or the Pumpkin Spice. Same with the Waffles...which, BTW, weren't even close to being as good as Jeni's. The presentation was not great either. I actually expected the "Flight" to look cool, but it turned out looking somewhat sloppy to me...in this cheap looking plastic cup/tray. Disappointing. Also, despite the locally sourced flavors (also like Jeni's), I thought that the ice cream was way overpriced...especially considering all that I just mentioned. The "Trio" at Jeni's was at least $2 less. Sorry for constantly comparing to Jeni's Splendid, but it kept coming to mind...especially once I saw that Almond Brown Butter flavor! Overall, I thought this was a good, solid ice cream parlour...and despite the locally sourced part, I thought the place was somewhat ordinary. Nothing too eye-popping, fun or aesthetically pleasing. Maybe I hit an off day, or picked the wrong ice cream flavors, but I just wasn't impressed at all. read more

Great service wasn't very busy they make a great root beer float and their workers work very hard and stay focused 10/10 would recommend!

We came here when we were looking for dessert in the area. I got a scoop of key lime pie and a scoop of banana pudding in a waffle cone and my husband got a salted caramel ice cream panini with caramel sauce and graham cracker crumbs. The key lime pie was very dry and dense -- the texture seemed off. The banana pudding and panini were both pretty good. Everything is local focused which is cool, but that comes at a hefty price. We paid about $15 for the two things we got and I definitely didn't think it was worth the price. I think the other local shops in Charlotte have ice cream that's better for a cheaper price. If I ignored the price, I'd probably come back again, but with how expensive it was, I'd rather get dessert elsewhere. read more

For date night, for rewarding kids for getting good grades or completing chores with no encouragement...this spot hits all the high notes. Staff is great and the ice-cream is well made. This could be the fat cat inside of me, but I think ice cream is perfect year round! Just saying! Who could pass up a generous scoop size of Pumpkin Spice or Caramel Apple Pie ice cream? Not I! What I love about this shop is knowing everything is made on-site using fresh ingredients from regional small farms. Staple flavors like the "Honey Vanilla" are made with local honey! The Local Scoop is dedicated to providing homemade ice cream everyone can enjoy. Options like Non-dairy vanilla coconut are among one of the many allergy-friendly flavors. Even the highly educated staff will insist on scooping with a clean scoop to prevent any cross-contamination of food allergies. Genius Right? The owners deserve a gold medal for this! If you want homemade ice cream with amazing flavor this is it! Just a heads up the ice cream flavors change often. There's a recommendation board available for customers to suggest new flavors. Aside from the awesome ice cream, The Local Scoop also offers Holiday Pies, flavors include: Pumpkin Pie Key Lime Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Cookie Monster I look forward to visiting this shop again soon. I LOVE THE LOCAL SCOOP. We moved to Providence a few months ago and this is the only place we come for ice cream. It's in a great location with a bunch of other stores and restaurants so it's very easy to go, grab your ice cream, and walk around to different places or relax nearby in the sun. All local ingredients, allergen information clearly labeled for each flavor of ice cream and they have several non-dairy options as well. Also. Soft serve gelato makes all my dreams come true. Homemade chocolate waffle cones, ice cream flights with 3 flavors and toppings. What more do you need in an ice cream spot? Highly highly recommend it. Everything is delicious. I love supporting local and nothing could be more local than an ice cream shop called The Local Scoop. I read reviews ahead of time and it sounded like this was THE place to get ice cream. We were having dinner nearby and was super excited to see that The Local Scoop was in the same parking lot and they were open late. Since it was late we were the only customers. We tried a few flavors and each got a scoop. I got a dairy free option because the small taste I had was good (which totally surprised me) but after a few bites of the regular size the taste was no longer that great. My husband got a regular scoop and said it was average. read more

Paid $6.99 a cup of two embarrassingly small scoops--they weren't even child size! This was my forth visit and the other times the scoops were MUCH larger. Feel totally ripped off. Ordered two non-dairy flavors (one was chocolate coconut) and we both were very disappointed in the flavor and texture--tasted like ice milk. I've been a vegan for periods of my life and I know how satisfying non-dairy ice cream *can* be. I took my girlfriend here today to celebrate a life event today but ended up being a bummer. Gave two stars because the young lady behind the counter was friendly. read more

TLDR: The ice cream is made fresh daily and the dairy is locally sourced from Jackson Farms and Homeland Creamery. Their flavors are rotating often so it's difficult to provide recommendations. That being said, I recommend you try their ice cream panini--a sweet Hawaiian roll filled with your choice of ice cream, your choice of syrup, and your choice of toppings pressed with waffle iron. I tried mine with sea salted caramel ice cream, caramel syrup and graham cracker topping. While it was not the best ice cream treat I've had it was certainly a unique experience that was worth trying. read more

Huge portions. Dairy, vegan, and gluten free options. Super friendly people. Delicious, storemade ice cream sourced from local farms. What more can you ask for? I was warmly welcomed, given an introduction to the shop, and offered samples. I tried the peanut butter cup and the key lime pie, liked both, and got one scoop (half of each flavor) in a sugar cone. It was more like regular scoops. Generous mix-ins. I didn't try the non-dairy flavors, but there were many options. This place is a hidden ice cream gem!!! If you are considering stopping in you will not be disappointed. All of the ice cream is made with fresh locally sourced ingredients and the staff is super helpful and friendly. They have some really unique flavor combinations that change seasonally. My two current favorites are blondie and peanut butter cup. The blondie has chocolate chip cookie and brownie chunks and the peanut butter cup is made with vanilla ice cream which makes me SO HAPPY. I don't love chocolate ice cream and it's hard to find a peanut butter ice cream that is vanilla based. They also have an entire freezer of dairy free flavors! In addition to hard scoop ice cream they also sell ice cream cakes, ice cream pies, and pints and quarts to go. This place is very high on my list of best ice cream shops in Charlotte. Definitely a must try! read more

I came here to take a break from a family photo session up the street(not my family but was visiting a friend!). All the kids were restless, so we came here for a snack. Upon entering, I was offered a sample of any flavor I wanted. I appreciated opportunity to try the ice cream before buying!! They suggested several flavors as well, so I could make an informed decision. They have a one scoop cup that is a generous serving and allows you to have two flavors. I tried many flavors but the one that stuck out the most was French Toast. I have never had an ice cream flavored like that. In addition, I added the blondie in my one scoop cup.
