Been to Fallston location and loved it. Tried doing lunch at White marsh but service was horrible. Left after 10 minutes of being ignored. Lunch needs quicker service than dinner so they are no longer a workday option. read more

I think this is my 1st ever 1 one star review. Trouble started from the moment we walked in. My wife made an online reservation and specifically requested a high top table. The hostess told us that was not the case because we needed to call the restaurant to request a high top table because it doesn't do it online. and we would be seated at a standard table. My wife pulled the email with that specifically shows that she requested the table. Hostess did not care and we got seated at a booth. We ordered from the restaurant menu. Wife and I got the beet salad, she only had literally one piece of beet on her beet salad. I had to give her some of mine. Appetizers showed up about 35 minutes later, they were good and tasty. We ordered chicken and waffles, the menu said that it was potato waffles, they were NOT potato waffles, just regular sweet waffles and were not good. Chicken was good but the portion was definitely not worth $29. Oh yeah, we had to wait over an hour for the food to get to us. My buddy and I ordered the Crème Brule for dessert, we did NOT get what we ordered. We insisted got some type of chocolate thing with a burnt crust attempting to mimic a crème brule. It was not good and we sent it back. I went to the bathroom and overheard some of the staff about how the chef/owner was freaking out about something and being rude to other staff. I saw a server trying to ask for help from a supervisor and he just sidestepped and rudely ignored them. The "fun"did not stop there, our server looked spent and was scared to tell the table behind us that the chef freaked out and quit cooking and they were not going to get their food. We spoke to them and they had been waiting for over an hour and a half and did not get their food. They were just offered an apology, no comp for drinks or vouchers for next visit. They were furious and I do not blame them. Our server was very apologetic and was afraid that we were going to take it out on them. We did not and generously tipped her. My wife posted a comment on The Local's Facebook page about the experience and it got deleted. I also posted a non-bashing comment but made my displeasure clear and it was also deleted. All negative postings from other people were promptly deleted as well. The chef/owner did reach out to the both of us with a myriad of excuses and claimed that two ovens broke, ticketing order system went offline and a cook just straight up left and never came back. He was also very standoffish in the facebook comments and accused me of being the type of person that only gave bad reviews. I told him that I've previously given his Fallston location two 5 star reviews, he deleted those comments as well. I was actually open to give them another chance but the wife is adamant about not going there again to include the Fallston location which is. closer to our home and we've spent good money there many times. I am pretty sure that there is a toxic work environment for the employees and we will not support a location that does that. read more

No, no, no. After 2 hours, no food to be seen. They were out of salmon at 7 pm. We ordered sea bass and they were out of that. Total nightmare!!!! Managers were apologetic. read more

Stumbled upon this Gem so the vibe was really home welcoming and great food, our waitress Madison did not miss a beat, the menu was pricey but the plates were fulfilling. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I also wonder if their connected in Canada because I went the Locals out there but a diff menu. read more

Waited almost 2 hrs for dinner after ordering. Reserved a high top online because we wanted to hear the live music. Was told high top need to be reserved by phone even though the option for seating is online. . Crème Brûlée was terrible. Both people at our table sent it back. The owner/chef quit cooking at 9:30 so any other tables could not order food. Server did her best to cope but the issue obviously starts at the top. This is my new favorite restaurant, by far. There are not many restaurants I want to return to, but this will be a definite repeat. We shared all of these dishes, and I'm not sure which dish was our favorite. We also ordered the Charred Octopus and it was absolutely fantastic. I'd like to say which dishes I'd order again, but one dish was better than the next so I will probably have to just keep trying new things each time I go back. Although I think I'd have to order the octopus each time. The staff could not have been more accommodating. We went to celebrate a 30th birthday and the atmosphere was exactly what you want when you go out to a restaurant to spend money for a nice evening out. There was great live music playing at the perfect volume, which just added to the overall enjoyment. If you're a gin drinker, they carry a local gin that's delicious in their Honey-Bee cocktail. Took a friend to Local in White Marsh for her birthday. She had never been. The food is amazing and we had a terrific server. HOWEVER we almost left because of the terrible hostess service. We arrived with no reservations and told it would be a 45 minute wait (although we could see 4 open tables and 3 open booths). We said we'd go shopping and they would text when table ready. 20 minutes later we received a text the table was ready. Headed back to the restaurant and the hostess said the kitchen is actually backed up and it would be another 15 minutes. I asked if we could at least be seated and get a drink. She had to go ask the kitchen. Finally seated us and asst Mgr Justin came by to apologize and offer free dessert. He never returned nor said anything to our waiter although he walked by a dozen times. So no dessert. We did enjoy our meal but I caution anyone going there to expect a long wait. Clearly the hostesses who are customers first impression need training. They should not be stacking customers in the wait area when there are open tables. The restaurant is losing a lot of money by not seating people and having them start with drinks and appetizers. Once they figure out staffing issues, I'm sure it will be a better overall experience. read more

Had a wonderful time at The Local on the Ave. After shopping, stopped in for a few drinks and apps on Friday night. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service and conversations with Chrissy, Kate, and Gabby. They were so personal and welcoming, and made our night so enjoyable. Our apps were delicious, and we ordered Tuna Tostada, Chicken Chowder, and a Beet Salad. It was a crowded night and the young staff member named Cam, worked so diligently behind the bar organizing and cleaning the glassware for the bartenders. We had been to The Locals other location and knew the food, atmosphere and service would be top notch. We visited this location with a family member with special needs, this can sometimes be difficult. Our server went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and make sure that everyone had a wonderful experience. She was kind, compassionate, professional and knowledgeable about menu. I visited this past weekend on a Saturday 11/4/2023 around 9:30 PM & overall my experience was pretty nice. This was my first time coming to this restaurant, also I never heard of it or anything about it so I didn't know what to expect. Initially Upon entering I felt like maybe I was out of place because the 3 host at the desk didn't seem very welcoming towards me, however they was more welcoming to the couple who came in afterwards; that was weird however I stayed and waited for an open seat. I was seated at a high top table and quickly approached by a friendly & welcoming waitress. She was really nice & helpful with the menu. Having her as my waitress made me feel more comfortable, because I did think about leaving for some where else. I preceded to order the Chicken Fried Deviled Eggs (rating 10 perfect/delicious). The entree I ordered was Crab Cakes, Smashed Red Potatoes, & Asparagus ( rating 10 amazing). Seriously the food was so good. I was happy & satisfied. I usually don't get crab cakes from places that don't specialize in seafood, however i was not disappointed. It tasted exactly like a Maryland crab cake supposed to taste. Side note.. They did bring out some corn bread before the food came but I didn't love it, however my date loved it. My date ordered a alcoholic beverage and he said it was well crafted and good. He also ordered the same entree as me but with fries and he had no complaints. We both felt like we made a good choice by coming to The Local for date night & we were glad that we didn't let those 3 hostesses weird vibes ruin our experience. The ambiance was really nice, chill and lightly dim. I felt like it was giving cozy & romantic but still chill & relax with the sport's playing on the TV. Over all experience is that it was a good restaurant with an atmosphere trying to be a blend of upscale and trendy at the same time. Great idea with locally sourced food but I'm wondering exactly where it is coming from, I could have missed that but it might be a good idea to state the sources like Ravage Deli does. It was loud but that is expected for a Saturday night. The service was interesting, the waiter took our order but everyone else on the wait staff brought our drinks and food over. The food was good, above average ( never eat fast food or at chain restaurants), ordered salads, scallop dinner and chicken with waffles. The charcuterie boards were impressive looking but we didn't order one. We were not a fan of the oversized plates, they looked ridiculous and, odd comment, the chairs were too low for the table (average height female) so that was uncomfortable. Last comment is that it is expensive but that doesn't seem to deter people from coming! It could be a potential date night spot but not a once a week visit. read more

Sunday, October 22, my husband and I were originally going to another restaurant, but wanted to try The Local at Avenue Whitemarsh. The inside is still set up as former restaurant, which was nice. However, once seated at the high top table near bar, we were never acknowledged by our waitress. We sat for 15 minutes before heading out. The waitress seemed to cater only to the other high top table. No other high top tables were occupied. She had several chances to acknowledge us, but never glanced our way. The general manager also passed by several times and also never acknowledged us sitting at our table. Upon leaving, the general manager, Mr Brown, asked what was wrong and offered to get us a server if we stayed. My mood was already tense and no way was going to go back to my table and now become center of attention. I told him we were done and we left. Went to my original first choice restaurant that was very crowded, but was acknowledged and gave our drink order within first minute of being seated.
