I visited The Local on the Avenue recently and decided to grab a bite and cocktail. The atmosphere provides an upscale yet industrial feel. I sat at the bar and bartender Ed was working that night and is all about service while being entertaining. The salad was fresh and the steak was tender and tasty. The cocktail was delicious! I asked for a twist on an old fashioned with chocolate and chili bitters and it's a great spicy version of the drink. Value is good, not cheap but worth every penny. The local expanded from its main location in bel air to white march taking up the old spot of wayward. The local has great fresh and locally sourced food and the new space is very spacious but highly recommend making a reservation because it fills up quick. The upstairs is a whiskey bar and the old oyster place next door is fine dining. The bartenders here are absolutely amazing and make awesome drinks. Very attentive. The food is good but on the pricier side. I came here for 2024 NYE event and had a blast. The music from Hero Entertainment was the most engaging, lively, and entertaining band ive seen in awhile. I've been here a few times and every time I've had a great experience. Everything I've ordered has been a hit. For appetizers I've had the Cheesesteak egg rolls which are so good with the spicy ketchup! Then the chargrilled oysters are good as well. Their cornbread with the jalapeño butter is divine! Came here on our anniversary last week during Halloween. We didn't need a reservation. The restaurant was a little on the slow side from the outside but def had a crowd of regulars inside. The outdoor fire pits were on and allowed for a nice backdrop in our anniversary photos. We sat at the bartop and had an excellent barkeep. She brought us waters immediately and some menus to glance at. We had just had dinner. We only wanted a few drinks, but ended up getting dessert as well. We had 2 signature cocktails. Mine was a light and sweet vodka cocktail called the honey bee. Kevin enjoyed a sugar rush espresso martini then switched to a new drink not on the menu yet. The Local has become a regular spot for me and my girls lately. The staff is always friendly and hilarious, always willing to make the experience a great one and can whip up a great drink (or 3!). Not pictured: the beef stroganoff. Oh my, it's absolutely amazing. 10/10 recommend. Great flavor, the beef is always tender and flavorful, and the sauce is really good! I'm not a fan of blue cheese but it adds a flavor I never knew beef stroganoff needed! The meat and cheese board is amazing as well, great assortment of meats and cheeses and olives! My wife and I were nearby and decided to check out The Local due to the good reviews. It was situated behind a Waffle House, in a nondescript building, but was actually decorated very nicely inside. We arrived at around 10 of 3 and were told that the kitchen closed at 3, which we were unaware of. We felt a bit rushed, but they seated us and got our orders in before then. We both started with the cream of crab soup, which was served in cast iron pots. The soup was thick & creamy, and there was a good amount of crab, although no lumps. There was also a touch of sherry, which enhanced the flavor quite a bit. For our entrees, I had the Hot Italian, which was served on some nice crusty bread. The whole sandwich had been toasted in the broiler, so the bread and exposed meats were crispy and sort of bacony. The included shoestring fries were a bit limp, but were well-salted and delicious. My wife had the fried green tomatoes, which was surprisingly flavorless, despite being advertised as having "herb and Old Bay encrusted" corn meal, Sherry cream, and roasted tomato vinaigrette. Neither of us could taste any of those flavors, and the whole thing was kind of "meh". Our server was friendly & generally kept up with us during our visit. During the last half of our meal, we had to contend with several flies, which would not leave us alone, no matter how many times we swatted at them. While they won't serve food, they still serve drinks Also came on Saturday night when a two -piece band was playing and, even sitting somewhat close at the bar, the acoustics were good in that the music was loud enough to enjoy without having to scream and could still carry on a natural conversation. ...also to note: Saturday night: every table was booked, every spot at the bar taken and every customer was happy...it was a good vibe in there! Last thing, promise: we didn't get it but the presentation of the beef wellington was **impressive**. It comes rolled out on a cart, under a smoked dome and that cut of meat is huge. My husband and I are very familiar with restaurant week and we try to go when they pop up as we like to try new foods and new restaurants at what is usually a cheaper than normal cost. So went for restaurant week at The Local this past weekend and were very excited about their 4 course meal options. My husband is a huge fan of lobster and when we saw the lobster pot pie as part of the pri fixe menu, we decided we had to try it! Given that it is restaurant week, one of my red flags is that the restaurant week menu was not readily available for you. You had to specifically ask your waitress for it. While this may not bother others, it bothered me because if you're going to partake in restaurant week, why are you trying to hide it from your guests? That being said, when the waitress showed as the restaurant week menu, we noticed that the lobster pot pie AND the soup options were taken off. The waitress kindly told us that the restaurant decided to change the menu yesterday (literally the day restaurant week promo started) to exclude some items though they were readily available on the regular menu. At this point, we were both pretty disappointed because the menu items we wanted we were no longer a part of restaurant week. We honestly debated leaving the restaurant as well because 1) this place was expensive if you chose items off the regular menu. Entree prices averaged $40. And 2) why would eat at a place that didn't offer us what we were looking for, we came SPECIFICALLY for the lobster pot pie FOR restaurant week prices. However, when I made reservations, the hostess took down my credit card info so that if I cancelled within 24 hours, they would have to charge $25 a person. Therefore, we didn't want to leave without having a meal because we were worried the restaurant would charge us $50 since they had my card on file. We ultimately decided to share a 4 course meal since honestly, our appetite was ruined since we didn't REALLY want anything else on the restaurant week menu. We ended up getting the beef carpaccio, Caesar salad, beef stroganoff and creme brulee. The food was pretty good in my opinion and the waitress was kind enough to bring out both the appetizer and salad at the same time. However, when the bill came, the restaurant also charged us $5 for splitting the 4 course meal!! While the food was pretty good, it was just disappointment after disappointment that we just ended up paying the additional $5 because I didn't want to be a "Karen" over $5. So, we will NOT be going back to The Local as it really felt like they made a very nice restaurant week menu to lure guests in and then decided to change it last minute and trap you into having to stay and eat... I am so disappointed with our carryout meal. One diner enjoyed the lobster fingers. We all enjoyed the beet salads. The crab cakes were good. Fries were a bit doughy and greasy. The big disappointment was the "lobster pot pie". It is described as "butter poached 6oz cold-water lobster tail, poached claw and knuckle meat, mirepoix vegetable medley, farm fresh English peas, lobster tarragon veloute, flaky European puff pastry crust ". Perhaps it's better in the restaurant and not as carry out (but that's generous I think). The "flaky" puff pastry crust was a greasy, flavorless pancake. The small split lobster tail was served in the shell and not loosened at all so I had to dig it out. No sign of the "poached claw and knuckle meat". There was a container of some brownish, gelatinous goo that I suppose was the mirepoix. $44 and I was grossed out and hungry. I'd vote this one as overpriced and snooty. I was hoping for salmon or sea bass but they only serve farmed fish - not wild caught. At those prices I hope the fish got massages and little bathrobes. read more

I was asked to pay a $150 reservation hold fee, which I thought was high, but I was ok with it. We showed up for dinner and two of our party were sick. The 4 of us had dinner, paid over $325 for dinner. Got home and got an email that my card was being charged a $50 "no show" fee.
