Inside The Little Dipper Cafe in Winthrop, Washington - July 2025

On an early morning drive from Mazama to Chelan, I spotted The Little Dipper Cafe and quickly pulled a U-turn and I'm so glad I did! I was short on time but in desperate need of a caffeine boost and a bite to eat and this charming little spot certainly exceeded my expectations! I cannot remember if I ordered a latte or a matcha latte but I do recall I ordered a quiche and everything was delightful. And I remember the quiche was warm, fresh, and filling! What I got at this small cafe in a remote mountain town rivals big city eats! And, better yet, the service was friendly and welcoming! The wait time was minimal which I definitely appreciated since I was on the road and had a time constraint. Prices were more than reasonable, especially considering the quality and the peaceful ambiance. I loved how the employees were still making pastries for the day in the huge oven of sorts behind the freshly baked pastries. I also loved the community posting on the bulletin board, such small town greatness. This unexpected stop turned out to be exactly what I needed. Even though I didn't have time to explore much of Winthrop, this brief stop in combination with the quick drive through definitely made me want to come back to walk around the town, check out all the adorable shops, soak in the Old West charm, and maybe even stay overnight. All in all, I highly recommend The Little Dipper Cafe if you're passing through or even better - make it a planned stop. It's great!

this was a cute little (emphasis on little) spot open early enough for us to grab a bite to eat before hitting the road for our hike, and it seemed that everyone else in the cafe had the same idea. they had ample yummy breakfast offerings, different from the usual breakfast sandwiches. they had various delicious sounding pastries and even burritos, which we opted for. i got the trailblazer burrito, which was really good. the uncooked black beans provided a nice texture and there was also the addition of some kind of seed- i think sunflower?- and this also added a nice soft crunch. overall, this burrito was a great breakfast option to fuel me for my hike ahead.

Came here for coffee and left with a delicious breakfast sandwich and a sausage quiche. Super friendly service - would highly recommend for anyone looking for a bite. Might be back to try one of the cinnamon rolls. Yum!!!

The salt hit from the ganache is perfection. Extraordinary. And, you will be super full (as in not hungry for about 8 hours) if you share this dessert with someone. Egg whites!! The service I received was top notch! Molly, Vickie, and Jonathan were really cool, friendly, and went above and beyond for me. I fell in love (LOVE!) with their chocolate soda, literally! Hands down, it's absolutely the best chocolate drink I've ever had. I would go in daily to get one order to drink immediately and 1-2 drinks to go (no ice, I would chill it in the hotel fridge). I loved the drink so much, I actually went across the street to Aspens Grove and bought two pitchers, so I could get enough of the drink to share with friends (11 people in total!) And yes, everyone loved it! The chocolate soda was more chocolate milk, since they had a soda water shortage, but if it's as tasty as the chocolate milk - oh my! Other pros- everything they use is either home grown (they have their own organic farm) or sourced locally whenever possible. All ingredients are of high quality and organic (also whenever possible). My first meal was their curry chicken salad which had great flavor and coconut flakes which added a nice texture! Vickie is the master chef and the magician behind their dishes and drinks. She took time to come out and share the chocolate soda recipe with me. I'll tell you this much- she makes an amazing dark chocolate ganache as the base of their chocolate drinks! She not only shared the recipe, but told me where I could go to get the highest quality chocolate and at the best price too! I have 15 bars, so I will make it at home soon! In the group of 11 friends I shared the drink with- a friend's son told her that she needed to get a pitcher and take it over to Oliver's too, to get more chocolate milk! It is so tasty and I'm so thankful that Vickie gave me the recipe and that Molly demonstrated step by step how she makes it! Cons- when it gets busy, it can be slow, but honestly, I felt it was worth the wait. We will be coming back to Winthrop a lot, and I plan to make Oliver's one of my first stops (if not the first!) on all future trips!

I'm so incredibly glad that multiple friends told me to check it out because I listened and not only visited but made a point to stay in Mazama which allowed me to soak in the full experience of this magical remote mountain town. The Mazama Store is located right in the center of town (which feels like something out of a postcard) and offers so much more than I thought. It's a rustic yet curated general store with a mix of groceries, local wines and craft beers, gifts and artisan goods, fresh baked treats, a coffee bar, hot food, outdoor gear, and even gas pumps outside. There's also a trail register for the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) thru-hikers which I could have stood and read for hours. Overall, the Mazama Store is part cafe, part supply stop, part community hub - and 100% worth the visit. I started my experience by snagging one of their famous sea salt baguettes (absolutely live up to the hype and then some) and then wandered outside to place a coffee and lunch order. I was pretty hungry after hiking Maple Pass Loop and driving over to Mazama so I opted for a Caramon latte and a pulled pork sandwich, which much to my delight was served on a heavenly sea salt baguette. Every bite was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Honestly, I can't tell you which part of the meal was my favorite because everything was so good!! We grabbed a table in the shade outside and enjoyed our food while watching hikers, bikers, and families filter in and out of the store and dining area. The vibe was super relaxed and friendly. Whether you're stopping in after a long hike, fueling up for an adventure, or just soaking in the beauty of the North Cascades, the Mazama Store delivers on all fronts. I just wish I was able to hike more in the mountains surrounding Mazama and/or that this place didn't close at 6pm! Overall, it is pretty rare to find a place that blends all that the Mazama Store is so effortlessly. It is a true gem and if you're even thinking about passing through Mazama, make this a non-negotiable stop. And, of course, do yourself a favor - grab an extra sea salt baguette... you'll thank me later!

On day one, my friend and I made a pitstop during a bike ride and split the marionberry pop tart which was huge and as delicious as it sounds - flaky and not overly sweet. The next day, we went back and shared the cinnamon bun (which lives up to the hype) and a slice of quiche that was flavorful, filling, and a great balance of hearty and light. I also ordered a hot latte which gave me the energy I needed for another day of exploring! The service was a little hit or miss - friendly but inconsistent.
