I went in to dye my hair for my birthday and asked Chrissy if she had any ideas about what sort of haircut to do, and she was so kind and told me she actually had a very good idea for shaping my hair! She very expertly used a razor to trim my hair and made it look so stunning. She also was able to get my hair color perfect. I started at a pretty dark color and actually had some dye from a while ago on my tips, and she lifted everything PERFECTLY to make it an even color all around. I've never felt so confident in myself before. Every day I say out loud to the people in my life that I'm in love with my hair. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the New Paltz area and definitely ask for Chrissy! She is so wonderful, patient, kind and truly a visionary. The location itself was also pretty nice! I blurred my pictures for privacy's sake, but featured is a Before, the immediate After when I got home, and then maybe a week later... Yelp won't let me order the pictures correctly for some reason, but the ones with me inside are immediately after I got home, the ones outside are before (dark brown) and about a week out (my dream color!!) I'm so happy with my experience and will definitely go to see Chrissy specifically again! She's just a wonderful human being and legitimately saved me from just shaving my hair completely off. I feel awful leaving a negative review, but I don't think I've ever had a worse haircut in my life. I went to Lemon Tree today with hair that was down to my ribcage. I asked for a short cut, showed reference pictures (about an inch above my shoulders with layers), and explained exactly what I wanted. I've had trims and layers done here before by other stylists, and it was fine, but today was a completely different experience. When I got to my car after the cut and blow-dry, I felt like something was off. Once I got home and straightened the blown-out curls, I realized just how bad it was--my hair was two drastically different lengths. I have no idea how my stylist thought it was okay to let me leave like that. I called the salon right away to request a refund, which they did provide, and they also offered to fix it for free. However, after seeing how uneven the cut was, I didn't feel comfortable going back. I've included photos so you can see for yourself why I was so distraught. I have an appointment at a different salon tomorrow to get it corrected. But I assume I am going to have to wear a very short bob for a while. read more

I went online and made a 10:00am appointment for today. I requested the hairdresser Shirina who had cut my hair before. When I booked the appointment, it took my credit card information to hold the appointment to avoid last minute cancellations/ no shows. No problem with that, but then I certainly expect the person I booked with to be there. I arrived at 10:00am to a closed salon. By 10:04am, two employees were present and let me inside. They said that Shirina was running late. I asked how late, since I had to leave at 11:00am. They said they would check with her. After a few minutes at 10:10am they said that one of them could do my hair and we could see if Shirina was there by the time my hair was done being washed. She wasn't. The employee who had washed my hair, Felix, said that Shirina was running late because it was cold out and her car needed to warm up. Given that it is the dead of winter and the temperature is not a surprise, I didn't find this excuse acceptable. I managed to warm up my car and arrive on time for the appointment for which they had held my credit card. Felix cut and blow dryed my hair, and I must say they were excellent - professional and courteous. Shirina entered the salon at 10:38am - nearly FORTY MINUTES after my scheduled appointment - and did not even say hello or sorry. She simply walked to the back of the salon. It made me wonder, if I hadn't said initially that I needed to know how late she would be, would I have been kept waiting for 40 minutes? It certainly doesn't take a car 40 minutes to heat up, but the lack of respect to not even apologize after entering the salon was the worst part of all. This was grossly unprofessional and quite frankly unacceptable. I won't be back. read more

Honestly the worst haircut my daughter ever got. The length was so uneven in the back and around her face. it was hard to make sense of the choppy layers. some of the back had long layers and some didn't. I had to take her somewhere else to get it re-cut and fixed. unfortunately she lost a lot of length in the process due to the lopsided cut she got a lemon tree. OMG, be careful here unless you're a guy....I sat waiting in line on a Sunday morning awaiting my turn so had an hour to watch other men and women get hair cuts. This beauty parlor/barbershop was the only one open in up state New York on early Sunday so I was anxious to say the least as I had a wedding to attend in several hours. Finally, my turn arrived....instead of just getting my hair washed and blown dry I decided to go for a cut as well...Strangely, my hair looked ok after a style with a long blow dry and I made it to the wedding with no time to spare! But--when I returned home--and, washed my hair the cut was a total disaster. My hair was layered so short on top of my head, so long and jagged at the bottom--my slightly wavy hair insisted upon going in every which direction ... I have thick thick hair and am good and patient at drying my own hair but this cut was totally unmanageable that I just accepted that I would have to live with this disaster for months and months until my hair grew out---so painful, so unnecessary. But, guys, I am happy to say this place was fairly good on mens cuts. No shag cuts there! I will say the two gals worked non stop, customer after customer in line that just got longer as morning grew into afternoon. My family started using Lemon Tree because of its convenient location in New Paltz Plaza. Last summer Cat turned my 14 year old daughter into a "Space Mermaid" with the most gorgeous blue and purple hair. The color was so well done she'd get stopped by strangers. I came here for the first time after seeing the reviewa. I did make the mistake of having a lady named Robin. I asked for a pixie cut and she stared at me like I was crazy and asked if I knew what a pixie cut was. I originally had one but my hair grew out. She ended up cutting my too short and in an odd style...if I can even call it a style... I decided to give the place a second try about a few months later. This is the fatal I made. I had Robin cut my hair again. I asked my hair to be "shorter all around" with bangs that decline ... not a dora haircut. She didn't seem to know much about hairstyles at all. It costed $20 with a wash. Probably won't come back and if I do, I'll know to get another person to cut my hair. read more

I love this place! While I do wish they took appointments the stylists here are fantastic. I looked all over the hudson valley for a salon that was comfortable with more alternative styles and I was referred here by a girl who worked in Wal Mart who was sporting a perfect mohawk. My son had made my three year old daughter totally bald in in front so I took her in to see if we could make it look intentional by doing something a little rock n roll :) Stephanie was SO FANTASTIC, she was super sweet to my little girl and found her a cut that looked GREAt on her and hid her bald spot 99%! I have been trying to decide between growing my hair long, and cutting it short for a while, finally got sick of it and made a last minute decision to get a few inches off in the meantime. Came here knowing it wasn't a top quality salon, but I was desperate at 7pm. I'm the girl didn't cut as much off as I wanted, but I got what I expected for a $20 cut. My hair is normally pretty wavy and I wear it up a lot so I didn't really notice anything wrong. However, today I straightened it and noticed that not only are the layers crooked and chunky, but my left side is at least an inch longer than the right. I know it was only $20, but it should at least be cut straight. I did not go to beauty school, but I imagine that cutting hair evenly would be one of the first things you learn. read more

First time: mediocre cut, but nothing upsetting. A little overpriced for what it is. Second time: I brought numerous pictures of myself with a haircut I had a couple years ago. She didn't even clearly look at the pictures because she didn't realize that it was me in the pictures and tried to tell me I have a different face shape than the woman in the pictures so I should do a different cut. I told her it was me and I want to the same cut. She then gave me a layered cut and when I said it doesn't look like the pictures she said well that's a short to long cut and I gave you layers, so I said well that's what I wanted that's what I showed you in the pictures. So I asked if she could fix it and she shrugged her shoulders and said it was closing time. She offered me no refund she did not offer to come back to fix it and she cut off more than I wanted so now I can't even do the cut I wanted exactly because I don't have the length anymore. This was the most disappointing haircut experience I can remember. They're supposed to be inexpensive but they really aren't and it's not worth it to get a cut you don't want. Unfortunately, a few months back, that wasn't the case, as I received a haircut that lasted no more than 5 minutes (I opted for a dry cut/no shampoo), by a woman named Cat. Perhaps, if I didn't have extremely thick, wavy hair, extending to my shoulders, I wouldn't have felt as neglected. I just got back from getting my haircut at Lemon Tree and it looks great! I was very happy with the service and the atmosphere, and especially the price, because I like a bargain. I showed up at 4:30, when they close at 5pm, and all the ladies there stuck around helping me get my cut just right and didn't rush me out at all. The stylish Danielle was really friendly and took her time, and when I was thinking over the way the front was hanging and trying to figure out what I wanted, one of the other stylists came over and helped her out with a technique that really works on me. I liked that they worked together and were really friendly. The manager mentioned she had been working there as the manager for the last 6-8 months, so I think that she's doing a good job getting upbeat and helpful stylists to work there. I was greeted by the manager and did not wait long before she called my name. I was very impressed with her service. She took the time to ask me about my hair, what I liked and didn't like, before washing and trimming it. I've always wondered about this place, as I've walked past on my way to Health & Nutrition. Today, with 2 kids in tow, I decided to give it a try as my 3 year old son needed a haircut- badly. We walked in and were told it would be a 30 minute wait... As I tried to get my little guy excited for his haircut- which he was adamantly against, promising a lollipop, I was told they were out of lollipops... No big deal- we had 30 minutes to fill... So off to Health & Nutrition for lollies (and a few other groceries). Back in Lemon Tree, after entertaining & keeping my 8 year old & 3 year old busy & happy for another 15 minutes (it should be our turn now), I am told it will be at least another 20 minutes. Annoying- but we're already here & now the little guy is excited for his haircut- so I'm thinking "ok- I'll grab the kids a quick junky dinner while we wait"... As I am debating with them about whether they want diner grilled cheese or a slice of pizza, I am now told that my son can NOT get his hair cut- there's no time....after the people ahead of us, they have to clean up & close... So I now leave with a toddler crying that he wants his hair cut! (All after having spent over 30 minutes waiting!) Went in today and got my first hair cut in months. I went in early (9:30) and got taken care of immediately. Marcy was very patient in helping me get the look I wanted as we worked our way from a short cut to a long buzz cut with more length on top. She even took the time to make sure I knew what kind of products would work best to style my hair (which doesn't like to do anything). I recently went in for a trim. I usually go to a nicer salon in New Paltz, but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a simple trim. I waited 40 minutes (no big deal- it happens)... when it was finally my turn, the hairdresser, Divet, brought me to the chair. When I asked if I could get my hair washed first, her response was "oh, you want me to wash it?" When she took my hair out of the bun I walked in with, she said "yikes, looks like you haven't gotten a trim in years." After she washed my hair, she basically insulted how fine/thin my hair was and told me it looked like I was losing hair. To top it all off, after my five-minute hair cut she said "you don't need it dried, right?" Although I did in fact want it dried, I more so wanted to get out of there. I felt so insulted by Divet's rude comments and clear desire to rush me out; I ended up in tears because of how horrible the experience was. I know the Lemon Tree offers cheap haircuts, but the service is HORRIBLE. I certainly will not be returning. read more

It was Presidents Day so I was super happy they were open to begin with because it was urgent. ;) They don't take reservations so you may have to wait. I'm giving it three dollar signs as I had to pay for someone else to fix their mistake and, therefore, it wound up being expensive! P.S. I am having my hair redone at Studio One. Much better and kinder; when I showed the hairdresser what they did to me at Lemon Tree she was genuinely sympathetic. On a challenge from my niece and my new husband, I grew out what hair I had, and carved it into a Mohawk. When I was in my teens, I had a blue Mohawk, and it was time to try again. Remembering the harsh bleaching and coloring process, I decided to let a professional do it. I COULDN'T BE MORE PLEASED!! Robin did an amazing job, taking her time and explaining everything. She worked swiftly, and the pricing was fantastic. Everyone in the salon was super-friendly, and I felt accepted. They also had some kick-ass acoustic ballads playing in the background.
