Upon arriving at Anderson University for my freshman year, I searched the best cuisine in Anderson. This was the number one rated restaurant so of course it was my first stop. I certainly understand why it is the number one rated restaurant in Anderson and it isn't just because of the wonderfully greasy onion burger (which is off the charts btw). The vibe in this place is awesome! Super old school and incredibly friendly. The ranch is some of the best I have ever had and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't pair it with a big ole' plate of fries. 5/5, 10/10. read more

Small but amazing place to eat!! I've been eating here since I was a kid. I remember walking here just to eat a cheeseburger and get a shake when I was 11 years old (and to hit in all the cute girls). I'm now 30 almost 31 and this place is still just as good!! Probably my FAVORITE place to eat anywhere and I travel ALOT!! I have live in 9 different states in the last 5 years!! I came here in the Spring of 2007...or was it 2006? Doesn't matter, what I do remember was that it was fantastic. Your classic diner in the middle of a town of a bygone era. The burgers, fries, onion rings, etc. They do all the classics well. The most memorable part was the toy train running around the top of the walls. Brings back great memories. Like others mentioned, it's a cute little diner that is a throwback to the 50's, with an old fashioned neon lit sign out front, and booths and counterspace that reminded me of something from Happy Days. There's a toy train that runs on elevated tracks which was fun to watch too. We ordered the onion rings, burger, and got a chili to go. The onion rings were delicious and the burger was solid--thin patties with grilled onions on top. Fast, friendly service. Overall, a fun place with a good vibe and good service. Avoid all the corporate crap (McDs, BK, Olive Garden, and so forth) and try out the Lemon Drop for decent diner food and a nice hit of nostalgia. read more

We were running errands in the area (up from Indy) and wanted a quick spot of lunch. Yelp led us to the Lemon Drop and we were not disappointed!! The place was lively and busy, but we were able to snag seats at the counter. We were immediately greeted by all three gals working, and water was put in front of us before our butts hit the seats! We saw a note on Yelp about the onionburgers, so we ordered three, plus a side of fries to share. Service was quick, prices were beyond reasonable, and the choo-choo train was a fun distraction. We are big fans of Route 66, and the Lemon Drop reminded us of so many places we have stopped along that historic road... we'll gladly drop in again next time we're in Anderson. :) read more

Great onionburgers! We lucked out and got a table as soon as we walked in. The server was friendly and fast. You can watch the guy at the grill making food to order. It was clean inside. The décor is a bit dated which probably adds to the charm a bit. My onionburger was cooked nicely with the right proportions of toppings. The onion rings were hot and crisp. The food came out quickly considering it was crowded. I appreciate they don't try to do anything fancy, sticking to what they know. The small menu makes it affordable and consistent. And they definitely know how to cook a burger! I will definitely go back and would like to try a milkshake next time. read more

What a HUGE disappointment! I've got to say that the owners of this establishment must have a large extended family or lots of people owe them money! We were returning from a day trip to Michigan and we like to try and patronize local "mom and pop" establishments whenever possible. After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews we thought we'd found a new hidden gem. We definitely like the fact they are keeping an old diner in operation and the unrestored interior harkened back to days of people moving a lot slower and taking time to actually know their neighbors. The original condition sign out front was definitely a winner in my book. The staff on hand was very coordinated in their efforts which given the cramped quarters is essential to making it work. They were also quick in filling our order with our whole time spent on site was less than 30 minutes. Our order was taken quickly and placed in front of us quickly but unfortunately that's where the positive aspects of this visit end. We were shorted an order of their "awesomest" (in their words) onion rings which upon visual inspection we quickly determined that no, a single order will be just fine. One of the burgers was served completely contrary to what was asked for which was met with "at least it's easy to take off what you don't want". On an aside, the lady sitting next to me was asked 5 times how she wanted her burger prepped and it still came out wrong. As to the food itself I strongly recommend that even the lightest eater needs to order the double burger as I have never seen a more thinly compressed piece of meat on a bun. Ever! I'm guessing that the patties were each about 1 ounce of meet and almost literally paper thin. Two of these patties on a bun just starts to hint that there is meat on the bun when you bite into it but honestly I didn't understand why the prices were so low relatively speaking until I saw the meal. They were VERY generous with the string french fries though. Overall I'd say that the location is a great photo op for the classic car buff but if I had the choice between the Lemon Drop and walking down the street to Mickey D's I'm sad to say that I'd be eating with the clown. If you happen by it and just have to try it then by all means visit them once but I doubt you'll bother with a second visit even if you're right across the street. read more

Quite simply one of the greatest little places I've ever found. The Lemon Drop is a true old fashioned diner. The entire menu (ONIONBURGERS!!) is contained in a board on the side wall-- because that's all it needs. Less is more here, SIMPLE. This is a sandwich-and-a-cup-of-coffee kind of place, and I'm glad that's what it is. If 1940s pop music had been playing on the radio, I would've believed I had stepped back in time. Stopped here on the way to Cedar Point. Great service, great food and a good dose of nostalgia. Highly recommend the onion burger. It's a longer drive off the exit than all the chains off the highway but it's worth it. We need to keep places like this going for the next generation. read more

This is the worst burger joint I've ever been to. If the staff weren't so kind and speedy, it would have received zero stars. The food was cold, mushy, and tasteless. There was absolutely no seasoning on ANYTHING. It was like having meat flavored oatmeal. My fiancé and I are both new to the Pendleton area, so when we drove to Anderson to go grocery shopping, I wanted to stop at a "hot, local favorite." The Lemon Drop was the first thing to pop up, of course, and coincidentally, my man had mentioned how he wanted a big cheeseburger for lunch. Honestly, it was so disappointing and underwhelming. The food was awful. I recommend you spend half the money and grab something from McDonald's. And if it's an onionburger you want, go to Steak N Shake. I swear you'll be more pleased. read more

I've been coming here as long as I can remember with my family, and I can easily say it is the best place for burgers in central Indiana. There may not be much else in Anderson any more (besides the empty Wigwam, Gene's, and Art's Pizza), but The Lemon Drop makes the trip worth it. The menu is nearly as small as the diner itself, and everything is worth a try, but my favorite thing has to be the onionburger. The Lemon Drop is a holdover from the days when Anderson actually had employment thanks to all the plants and factories in the area. It's a tiny little diner next to Mounds Mall, painted bright yellow and decorated with a 50's (and lemons) theme. The menu is limited--burgers, fries, shakes, a few fried things--but it's perfect when you want some old-fashioned diner food. Fries are plentiful and crispy, the fried fish is pretty damn good for a land-locked state, and the buns are toasted wonderfully on the griddle. Yum! read more

It's a cute little old diner with loads of nostalgia going on. They have a toy train running all the time around the perimeter above your head and sitting at the counter is pretty fun. The grill is out in the open so you watch them cook your food. If you like onions (and who doesn't??) definitely order an onion burger. It's two thin burgers stuffed with cooked onions. I also like fresh raw onion on top of mine, because the more onion the merrier. The hubby loves a legit Vanilla Coke, and this is about the only place in town to get one made with axial syrup.
