This was a nice meal in a small town setting with lots of hospitality. I pulled up across the street and parked (free). Upon entering the restaurant, there is a wall divider on the left that extends about half way back. There is plenty of seating at tables in the dining room and some bar stools at the rear by the counter where you pay after your meal. I wasn't sure if I was to seat myself, but one of the several staff members saw me and directed me to pick a spot. There are menus on each table and the daily specials are listed on a chalkboard in the middle of the dining area. My waitress was friendly and pointed out the specials to make sure I saw them. I decided to go with the fried chicken and ordered cheese potatoes and green beans as sides. I ordered water and forgot to check what other beverages they had. I was brought my ice water promptly (no lemon slices, but they have lemon juice available.) It was no more than three minutes after ordering when my food arrived! Wow! I used to wait in drive thru lines longer than that! My meal arrived with all the ingredients on a single plate though the beans were in a separate dish nestled between the other items. Paper napkins and silverware were provided then too. The beans were really good. Chopped segments fixed cooked (not al dente) with bits of onion and bacon were really tasty. The cheese potatoes were halved and sliced and cooked in a cheese sauce that was good and simple in flavor, i.e. comfort food. The potatoes were piping hot so be careful biting in. The chicken was thoroughly cooked and nearly fell off the bone. I got two thighs and a drumstick for my portion. The chicken was moist and tender. However, the skin which was lightly breaded, needed some seasoning (I added some salt) and had become just a bit soggy. When I bit into the chicken (hand held for me), the skin fell off which left the meat with no seasoning. It was okay, but I would have preferred the skin to be crisper and a bit more tasty. Checking out was easy since the waitress had dropped off my order ticket right after I received my food. I simply paid at the counter at the back of the restaurant. Note that if you want to leave a tip on your credit card, you have to tell them that before they ring it up and you swipe your card. (Look for the small note by the card machine to remind you.) If you like dining with the local folks at a place that is known for its traditional meal options, stop by Faye's just a few blocks north of the courthouse. Review #3600

The Alley is literally a converted alley with artwork painted on the buildings, some tables and then some lights hanging above it, but this humble space creates a great little place for people to gather and create a sense of community.

The Alley is literally that: an alley next to the Subway & Pizza King that has multiple tables with bright red umbrellas for comfort. An arching metal gateway spans the entrance from Main Street. On the north wall, student artists (2018) contributed small murals that fill in where windows used to be found in the wall face. One of the pieces includes local muralist Tanner Fernung's character from the animated movie "Up!". On the south wall are larger murals. There are two historic composites of the downtown area done by a local photographer. There is also a pair of giant angel wings (again by Fernung) that are intended for "selfie" photos. However, Fernung is a big man (plays offensive lineman for Manchester University), so the wings and angelic crown are quite high and may require some trick photography to get the wings to line up with your body. The Alley adds a bright spot for locals and visitors to stop and enjoy the artwork and view of the courthouse. It also is a great way to support the local artistic talent in the community. We enjoyed everything about this place, the feel, the look of the decor, as well as the service. Very very nice and we've eaten at a lot of restaurants all over the continent but this one takes it all. I've found that all states and countries have their own cuisine and way of fixing it but try to find a tenderloin , it doesn't exist in most places, even California doesn't know about it and here I thought they knew about everything. Trust me, if you want the experience we had you need not look any further but be sure to call in a reservation if there are more to your party and double check that you have reserved, that's always a good habit to acquire. As busy as this place gets you have no one to blame but yourself if you drop the ball, after all, what part of the word "Reserve" don't we all understand. Great place to eat and we'll keep coming back when we're here. Thanks Booker.

The dining rooms are filled with an eclectic blend of farmhouse decor. There is a homey Midwest feel with soft country rock playing in the background. The bar is downright cozy and adorable. The menu offers a mix of burgers and sandwiches. There is also a dinner menu. Our server told us that the burgers and tenderloins are fresh and hand prepared. The tenderloins are a favorite. I had the Bbq burger with fries. The burger was thick and topped with bacon, onion rings and bbq sauce on a Brioche bun. The burger was delicious. In addition, the battered fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. They were crispy and not too much salt. The tenderloin was good. The breaded coating was well seasoned and accompaniments were fresh. The staff is welcoming, friendly and attentive. An event room is available for weddings or parties. There is a kids menu. The place is pristine. There is free street parking in front of the restaurant. Bookers is well worth the trip.

The parking lot tailgating before dinner is half the experience. Where else can you sip a drink next to a pickup truck, make friends with complete strangers, and then walk inside to eat a meal that makes you question every life choice that led you to lesser restaurants? The food is absurdly good. The famous Perkinsville Pork deserves its own state holiday. Portions are generous, flavors are bold, and the menu somehow manages to feel both elevated and unapologetically Hoosier. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was chaotic in the best possible way. Everyone having a great time. Come hungry. Come early. Bring a folding chair for the parking lot. Leave wondering why every restaurant isn't this much fun. 10/10. I can definitely understand why people will tailgate just to get in for dinner. We started off with the meatballs, the pork loin, and the pierogies. The pork loin is a must get, and the other others were delicious as well. For my entrée, I got the pork loin as well because it was so good as an appetizer, and before that I started with the tomato soup, which was also excellent. Addison was our waiter and was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We had a party of over 10 people and he handled it flawlessly. If you're in the mood for something out of the city in a little bit of a change of pace, I would highly recommend trying here.
