    Homemade pies!

On a recent trip, a couple seated next to us on our flight recommended One Eye Jack's, so we decided to make a special trip to try it out. They are well-known for their breaded pork tenderloin, so my husband and I went for lunch and ordered the "Deuce." It was a large, thick tenderloin that came with two buns, so we were able to cut it in half and share. The flavors were absolutely delicious; it was a little too thick for my personal preference, but overall it was very good. The service was also great--both our waitress and the gentleman at the counter were very friendly.

This one is tough to review. We drove about 25 miles out of our way just to go here for the tenderloin. The place had a nice decor and comfortable atmosphere, fabulous menu. Lots of options, good selection of draft beers, great sounding and looking foods and deserts. We got the special which was the original tenderloin sandwich with fries or tots. Good price, beautiful, giant, thick tenderloin. When it first came out, I said, "Now this is the real deal!" Not some paper-thin oversized breading disc. This was a real pork tenderloin battered beautifully and mammoth in size. It took a little long to get there, but not a big deal. Unfortunately, the flavor was not great. Without the toppings, the beautiful tenderloin was basically flavorless. The fries were ok, but not great and the tots were bordering on bad tasting. The only way I can really describe the flavor is bland and disappointing. They had some of our favorite pies for dessert. But don't waste your money on those. The crust was that horrible white dry crap you get at the grocery. The slices were extremely small, and the flavor and texture was terrible. My teenage daughter makes a great sugar cream pie and we all love it, but this was no comparison (in a bad way). It was pasty and flavorless. The strawberry rhubarb was just plain bad. Overall, it really wasn't worth going an hour out of our way for dinner. The service was fine, although it was hard to tell who our server was since it was someone different each time something came out. If you want to post an amazing picture of a tenderloin sandwich on your social media, this is the place for you. If you want something good to eat, go elsewhere.

Best Pork tenderloin in the land! Fresh lettuce and pickle, bun perfectly toasted! Worth the trip! The double sandwich will give you a run for your money!

On a road trip we decided to stop in here. Totally worth it. Seated immediately, everyone was nice. Place was clean. Not real busy as it was early dinner on a Monday. Let me tell you it was huge! It was crispy! It was juicy! It wasn't paper thin. It was perfect! And the fries were bomb too! Hot and fresh. If you're in the area, this is a must have

I'm so glad we came here. I mean, we were visiting family in Winimac so we had to go check out One Eyed Jacks. Epically ginormous tenderloin! I have to say that this was the best and biggest fried tenderloin that I have ever consumed! You cannot go wrong with this sandwich. I got a side of the Boom sauce with it. It was good but nothing to write home about. I'll try a different sauce next time. All end by saying, If you stop by, you better come hungry.

We drove 90 minute north for the breaded pork tenderloin and it did not disappoint. My wife and I opted for The Deuce, since one is way too large. Basically, you're getting an extra bun and toppings. Perfect for sharing. The tenderloin was thick and tender. The tempura batter was super crunchy and seasoned well. If I could nit pick, my mouth was a bit raw afterwards. It's like eating Cap'n Crunch cereal. (If you know, you know.). I have no idea how the competitive eaters can handle the 7 pound challenge. Our waitress was phenomenal. I wish I caught her name. She was very patient and very helpful. The breaded pork tenderloin has its own page on the menu. She walked me through the differences between them all. She highly recommended the Tenderloin Bits, which someone in our group ordered. The menu makes the serving look small. It is not! It's a 12 oz tenderloin cut up and then fried. The serve Coke products and have a long beer list.

The entire reason I visited One-eyed Jacks was because I heard so much about their breaded pork tenderloin and it did not disappoint. The tenderloin was thicker than you find in most places, which means it was also moister. The breading was perfection. I ordered mine with lettuce, mayo, onion, and mayo. I just took the bun off because it was pointless. I think this will be four meals out of one sandwich. It's excellent value. Service was spot on. This place really should be a pilgrimage for anyone who craves Hoosier Breaded Pork Tenderloin sandwiches. I will visit again.

I was traveling through Winamac and I found this "looks like a dive, but actually a really nice diner inside." The state delicacy of Indiana is the pork tenderloin sandwich and supposedly a key part is to make the tenderloin at least twice the size of the bun. One-Eyed Jack's excelled at this part. This sandwich was mammoth! Another key part is the tenderloin being battered in-house ... in more ways than one. The batter on the tenderloin was crisp but not too greasy. It reminded me of a terrific batter you would find at fairs. And the other way I mean battered is that this tenderloin was tenderized so well...I almost thought I was eating chicken instead of basically a pork chop. The mayo, red onion, tomato, and pickle ...and a little bit of ketchup I added made this a legendary sandwich! I am from Alabama and a difficulty I have had living in Indiana is finding sweet tea. Surprisingly, One-Eyed Jack's brews their tea in-house which is more important than the amount of sugar. The sweet tea had enough sweetness to it to make it delicious though it would probably be considered half and half in my native Alabama. Roll Tide! But I was satisfied with their sweet tea and would order it again. There are weekly specials like I could have had wings if I had arrived an hour later. They also do BBQ on the weekends. I will be making more visits to One-Eyed Jack's in the future.

This is our second visit. Just as amazing as the first. Drinks are well poured and they have quite a selection too. We got tenderloins. It is big enough for two servings at least. It is thick, delicious and crispy. This time we tried the portabella fries. It was huge portabella caps split into sections, battered and fried. I got sweet potato fries and husband got normal fries. Both were crispy and good. This place is now in our rotation of good meal spots.

After living in northern Indiana 8 years, I finally made the 40 minute drive down to One Eyed Jack's for their famous pork tenderloin sandwich. We arrived at 7p on a Friday evening. The restaurant was pretty full, but we were quickly seated. Servers were quick and attentive. Our starter was the Boom boom shrimp. After reviewing the menu, and looking over the plates of the customers near us, I quickly decided on the Queen pork tenderloin sandwich with tater tots. My wife chose the Ribeye sandwich, and my daughter chose the Italian sandwich. The boob boom shrimp was served sizzling hot, in the spicy boom boom sauce. We all agreed it was very good appetizer. Our entrees soon arrived. My pork tenderloin sandwich was very good. To manhandle the bun, I had to cut off the excess pork tenderloin. It was a great sandwich. My wife and daughter both very much enjoyed their sandwiches as well. It was an all around very good Friday night meal. I am already looking forward to our next visit to One Eyed Jack's.

Crazy Giant Tenderloin and fries or tots for $10 on Tuesdays! Very cool place and well worth a drive!

Ordered The Deuce for two of us to share and we still had some to take home. The pork tenderloin was delicious and the tots were nice and crispy. Wish we had a sandwich this good back home in Texas.

You see, a large group of us college friends living in the city, and some new friends we've picked up along the way, enjoy visiting our friend from college working her dream job in the dreamy Hoosier State. Our plan is simple: travel by car to the land of "two-bedrooms with parking, a yard, in-unit washer/dryer, and a dishwasher for $400 a month", load up on sustenance, cruise on the boat in Lake Shafer all day, get silly, take over a bar, and make decisions that should only be made by freshman college girls. Our usual poor decision spot closed a few months ago and, this time around, Sayler's became our latest watering hole debacle. And so begins my open letter to Sayler's. Dear Sayler's, Thanks for gracefully dealing with the presence of by 6 FIPS and our 4 local friends this past weekend. From the moment we hit the boat at 11AM Saturday morning we knew that any establishment in the Monticello area would be "happy" to have us as patrons. Your close proximity to our home base made you an easy target for our debauchery and fun that we surely brought. Your $12 beer buckets and less than $3 shots insured that we would be even more fun than we already were by giving us crazy amounts of liquid courage. This helped us negotiate with the DJ when choosing songs for the bar (we were sad to find out he did not have "Midnight Train to Georgia"), populate what was a vacant dance floor, and demonstrate to the rest of the bar patrons how to do planking exercises in multiple places throughout the bar. I can only hope that we were not only a fun presence to be around, but that we also taught your customers important fitness techniques. Although we felt we may have overstayed our welcome by the end of the night (thanks to the girl who tried to "start something" in the bathroom with a friend), thankfully we had one friend who was able to keep us in check, offer a shield or protection, and help us get on our merry way. We still hope you welcome us back the next time you are in town. Signed, Me PS Terri, I hope you had a great 50th birthday party. We sure had fun!

Nothing overly extraordinary but for sure a strong local favorite here. I ordered the salmon special, and it was really good. The menu here also had a lot of good options to choose from, so definitely a great place to get a meal while you're in the area. We came in on a Friday night, and I am not sure if it was a particularly busy day, but our service was pretty slow. The woman who I assume is the owner filled in the gaps when our waitress was slow though. Maybe just our waitress. Our food also took awhile to get to us, but when it did finally come out it was pretty good. It's a great spot to come in for dinner if you are visiting the area. The dining room was full, so we opted for the patio. They were missing two chairs from the table of 4 and couldn't locate more, so they seated us in the bar. The bar was dark, noisy, and had a dank mildewy smell. We placed our orders, and after about 15 minutes someone turned up the jukebox music, and it got LOUD. We had to shout to converse. Around 7:45pm, our food finally arrived. As to the food: The complimentary bread was GREAT! The minestrone was pretty good. The walleye was prepared elsewhere, in the judgement of the eater of the walleye. The ribs were overly peppered. The fried chicken was fine (the menu warns that fried chicken takes 14 minutes {an oddly specific number} to prepare, not an hour). The mashed potatoes were pasty and bland, served without gravy. Not even salt and butter could make them worth shoveling into my mouth. The rice pilaf was okay, pretty similar to Uncle Ben's instant. The baked potato was too hard to eat. The fries were so-so. The cobb salad wasn't worth ordering again. I wouldn't go back for that food, even on a slow day when we can eat in the dining room or on the patio and the kitchen is faster. And I think we will remember why, for many more years. But hey: if you want to go drink beer and watch minor league baseball and indoor field hockey and go home with a headache, the Lakehouse is your spot!
