Took my daughter out for her birthday dinner. We walk in at 5:30pm, dinner time. She orders pretzel bites WITH CHEESE. I order totchos and was told they were out so I asked for fries with all the same toppings. I'm told oh weren't not out but we need to warm the cheese. No problem. We sit and wait maybe 10 minutes and the very nice waitress tells us it's taking longer than expected for the cheese to warm and ask my daughter if she wants another dipping sauce. I asked why it wasn't warm because it is dinner time, almost 6pm at this point. She said they ran out and the cheese sauce is frozen. Excellent stop on our way to Michigan. Just off 31 yet right on the water, we enjoyed an excellent late lunch at this fun "beach vibe" spot. With a terrific variety of food, there was something tasty for everyone! And the prices were great! $6 margarita! What? My son and I loaded up on a variety of tasy street tacos with interesting flavor combinations. I loved the shrimp taco and his favorite was the pb&j. Sounds weird but it worked. Our friends both had the burgers and were quite satisfied. The brussel sprouts as a side were out of this world. Yum! In addition to delicious food, we really loved the view. My wife and I came here almost by accident. We were looking for a quick place to grab drinks and some food after doing some shopping with friends in the area, so we dropped in. This is not fine dining, of course, but I think you'll be pleased. The locals started filling-up the indoor seating area shortly after we arrived, so it's obviously a popular place. The floors are worn and the decor reminiscent of a family lake house. There's a big picture window over looking over the lake; can't beat it view! Staff is super warm and friendly like they are saying hey to a regular. Food: kids had some pretzel bites, slathered in cheese, they mowed down with a swiftness. I had the PBJ burger- burger was perfectly cooked and juicy. The bacon jam against the crispy jalapeños was a delightful texture that added an experience to each bite. Hubs had the smoked wings. Wow, wasn't expecting such an amazing spot on our way north to Michigan. This placed is tucked away on a slice of heaven, with food that'll blow your mind. Sam, the GM, was our bartender and she was awesome. Hit the nail on the head with all recommendations and clearly knows good beer based on the tap list. My husband and I split wings, tacos and chips/salsa. Everything was insanely good and inventive. Bonus, they have several Burn Em beers on tap. I love the dam landing I especially love that they make it so that when you're having a nice summer day, you can just come over park your boat and get out and get some food. I love that about this because me myself I ride a boat and I can just easily get some food. But if we're talking about the food, it's not really your typical food they serve waffles and chicken tenders, which is a little bit weird but I've tried it before and I like it so that's why I've decided to give this a four-star, and the food is great though, I love the chicken tenders and fries. The service is also great as well. I haven't been here in a while, so I don't know if the ambience is good or not. It would be practically impossible to not fall in love with The Dam Landing, an indoor/outdoor bar and grill located on Lake Manitou in Rochester, Indiana. In full disclosure, I was in town for a fundraising event and The Dam Landing had donated my meal for the evening and, in fact, ended up offering up a surprise donation to the cause. However, there's no question that neither fact influences my review. I loved this place. The Dam Landing has the look and feel of an old beach house, adjacent boat docks offering the option for local boating residents to float their way into The Dam Landing for one of many of The Dam Landing's special events. The setting itself is rustic, yet stunningly beautiful. There's limited options for accessible parking, yet between their own private spots and an adjacent lot it was never an issue. They have a ramp into their restaurant, most likely not quite ADA compliant yet I had no difficulty with it at all. We arrived on trivia night - the place was bustling and loud and chaotic, yet it was also surprisingly organized and immensely friendly. They offer 16 beers on tap - alternating between micro-brews and domestic favorites, while the menu also tends to be changed up to keep things fresh. The owner, Brett, was clearly familiar to those present and owns other businesses within the Rochester area. I arrived with my support crew for the day being that I was on a trip up the Nickel Plate Trail by wheelchair. We'd given them an idea of when we'd likely arrive and we were seated quite quickly upon our arrival. When a wooden booth opened up closer to the water, there was no hesitation in allowing us to move to enjoy the scenery. The menu consists of shareables, salads, epic burgers, a variety of sandwiches, street tacos, pizzas (after 4pm), and a handful of entrees. I decided to try out their tenderloin sandwich, which is hand-breaded and was incredibly good. The sandwiches come with fries or tots, I chose tots, and I was incredibly happy with the entire meal. Of course, I picked my usual unsweetened iced tea and was pleased to get my always desired refill. Among the meals I enjoyed while on my Tenderness Tour last week, my visit to The Dam Landing was a true highlight. With terrific food, an amazing setting, a terrific crew, and fair pricing this is easily a Rochester, Indiana establishment worth checking out if you're in the area. If you get a chance, sit outside and check out the lovely Lake Manitou. read more

I let our waitress know I wasn't in the mood for anything overly sweet - and she had the perfect suggestion. It was a great mix of flavor with a lemon twist. Perfect. Next we tried the tacos - The CBT & The Dope Chick. I preferred the Dope Chick. Reminded me of authentic chicken tacos from TX with a corn tortilla. The CBT had a bit of spice with the roja sauce and equally tasty. Next was the Bacon Gouda Tenderloin. Hand breaded fried to perfection with melted Gouda and crispy thick bacon. With a great view of Lake Manitou, The Dam Landing is a perfect name for this restaurant/bar located next to the dam that was built to flood the area. The outside is a little dingy, but inside, there has been remodeling and it is much nicer there. There is also an outdoor patio for nicer weather days. Parking is on a small gravel area next to the street. There is a hostess stand at the entrance with restrooms to the right and the bar to the left. I was surprised at how large the bar area was. Plenty of room between tables and lots of beer on tap. The inside dining area is rather small and is "L-shaped". We sat at one of the small 2-top tables with a view of the lake. It took awhile for the waitress to arrive, but once she did, the service was more regular. There is a small menu, but it lists items on both sides. I went with the Dam Burger (grilled onions, Pepper Jack and American cheeses) and the Power Slaw side which was surprisingly good with the addition of broccoli and Brussels Sprouts (shaved) and topped with an apple vinaigrette. The burger was quite tasty as the onions became sweet from the grilling. My wife ordered the fish basket (cod) and though the flavor of the breading was good, the breading was a little bit undercooked/soggy. My wife likes her fish sticks with a crisper outside, so she only ate some of the breading. The food had arrived fairly quickly after placing our order and we asked for the check at that time so that we could get back on the road. The food was amazing, especially the Bacon Burger with onion rings. The tacos and jerk chicken sandwich are excellent as well. The Bloody Mary, not so much.
