Arrived with a group of 8 at 7:15 on a Wednesday. The restaurant was empty with only one other table of two. The staff barely greeted us when we walked in and then took 5 minutes to figure out what to do with us. The person who seemed to be in charge sat at a bar seat and ate while telling them what to do. Once sat, the server took our drink and food order but never came back. I had to go to the counter to ask for refills. The food was "decent" but not great. We stopped in today from out of town. The sign said wait to be seated. There were only two tables with two people each. Being as empty and quiet as it was, we thought there would be no problem getting a table. The entire time we stood there waiting for someone to seat us, there was a young female standing not five feet away from us. We were never greeted, never acknowledged in any way. After a few minutes we left. Maybe they're closing soon? No it's only around 1:00 or so. What's the story? If you don't recognize me as being a regular I don't get to eat there? We were seated quickly but waited for about 5 minutes or more before a waitress came to the table. By then we were ready to order as well as order drinks. She was pleasant. Our salads came out and in about a minute later our food came out. My fries were lukewarm. I had the prime rib sandwich with au jus. The sandwich was tasty enough but the au jus was cold. We stopped here on our way through town. The wait to be seated wasn't terrible, but the young hostess wasn't welcoming. She brought us to a table, set the menus down, and just left. 1) The table was dirty. It had been cleared of dishes, but not cleaned. This was clearly visible, but she either didn't care or wasn't observant when she sat us anyway. Either way her service was poor. I had to ask for the table to be cleaned. 2) She left the placemats right how she placed them. I would think she would take a few seconds to arrange them neatly in front of our seats. Nope. (Maybe this is me being picky) We waited for the server to arrive. She passed by once and said she'd be right back. No one stopped by to take a beverage order. We waited more. She serviced other tables. We waited. We finally had enough and left. She said, "I was just on my way", though she wasn't heading in our direction. I said, "it's ok". She replied with an apathetic OK. We didn't get a chance to eat. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. We won't ever return. One star is generous. read more

DOV - 8/2018 -We were returning from a wedding and stopped in for a bite to eat on our way home. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. We were greeted nicely and seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and the food came fairly quickly. My husband, son and myself all had the bacon burger supreme. Very tasty burger. My son had the platter and was given lots of fries. My daughter had the kids cheeseburger and fries. All of the food was good. My only complaint would be that it is a little pricey on the platters. I love this place it is very nice. I love their clams and their chicken tenders and fries. But their cheese fries are a little bit weird that Ches is just a little bit weird because they use nacho cheese on cheese fries which you don't normally do for cheese fries but the service was great. They always check how you're doing. I hear a lot of great things about the tenderloins but me myself I have never tried them. The ambience is a mix of fancy and regular.. I guess they try to be fancy but they don't really succeed. There's a lot of paintings on the walls, which I love to look at, and I love the designs. The Streamliner has been a presence in Rochester, Indiana since 1939, its familiar train-themed decor and intimate wood-tinged decor providing a warm and comfortable atmosphere that makes the place feel like your usual smalltown diner. I joined friends and fellow Yelpers Rick G. and Holly G. for a meal at The Streamliner during my own cross-state wheelchair ride that had me on the Nickel Plate Trail and spending some extended time in Rochester due to the holiday weekend. While we were tempted to return to another local joint where I'd had a pretty strong tenderloin, we ultimately opted to try something different and found ourselves at The Streamliner. Unfortunately, the Streamliner didn't quite live up to our high hopes. Far from a bad restaurant, neither is the Streamliner a particularly good one. It's practically the definition of "middle-of-the-road." Both Rick and I looked at each other at meal's end and agreed - 3 stars all the way. They have a wheelchair ramp leading into the restaurant, while the double glass doors are pretty workable. The interior consists primarily of both booths and tables - thus, wheelchairs are pretty easily accommodated. Both Rick and I were grateful, though disappointed, that the server openly knew and acknowledged that the tenderloin was a fritter (not hand-breaded). For purists, this essentially means that it's not really "tenderloin." As Rick, a tenderloin blogger, sticks to actual hand-breaded tenderloins, this meant that we detoured our attention away from the desired tenderloin into other options. In my case, that became a plain burger with the accompanying fries. The Streamliner menu consists of sandwiches, dinners, pizza, salads, and a variety of desserts. The burger was perfectly fine, though nothing particularly special. The fries, of the crinkle-cut variety, were good but also of your ordinary, average diner quality. I thought of Ore-Ida - not particularly an insult since I like Ore-Ida's crinkle-cut fries, but one would hope for a notch above in a restaurant. The service was also 3 stars. I did get my always desired iced tea refill, though it was toward the end of the meal and offered to go. Our server was functionally fine, though not particularly strong in hospitality. A good server can make you want to go back right away because you feel so comfortable and welcome - definitely not the case here. She served, but that was about it. This wasn't a bad experience. It just wasn't a particularly good one. Given that Rick and Holly had driven all the way up to spend the afternoon with me, particularly hoping for a tenderloin review, it was an average experience made better by the presence of friends. With the similarly priced The Dam Landing about a mile away, there's no question that upon a return visit to Rochester The Dam Landing would earn my business. read more

If I could rate a zero I would. Waitress was seating me and I asked to sit in a booth. She walked to the next table (a booth) and throws the menu from a distance and storms away. I went to the register, asked to see the manager and was told she's busy sitting with some people. I said I'll wait and she didn't want to get her until I insisted again. The owner comes over, I explain, and she tells me the waitress had a bad day. I told her I would stay but not in that girls station. She seats me and then says "it's gonna be a while cause your waitress is now double seated". I said that's fine I'll wait. A minute later owner approaches again and says it will be a really long time! I told her the other waitress shouldn't treat customers that way and she said no but times are rough, we all are having bad days. Never said I'm sorry or polite in any manner. the make their unbreaded tenderloins in house and they were excellent. Unbreaded tenderloins can be dry but they kept it moist and at a good thickness. I'd go back for the tenderloins. The hamburger was also good and worth a return. Unfortunately they don't make their own breaded tenderloins. They are brought in frozen. We didn't think they'd be worth trying. The frozen frenchfries and onion rings were pretty dismal. The fries did not have a good potato flavor and the texture was broken down like you get with frozen food. the onion so thin it was lost in the breading. Stopped here for lunch. The chili is ok. It tastes and looks similar to Wendy's chili. The ultimate grilled tenderloin was good. It was made fresh and a very big sandwich. The slaw is a overly sweet mushy mess. It's horrible in texture and taste. The fries taste like typical frozen food. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place but, unfortunately, there aren't many options in this town. read more

This is a diner style place with a variety of menu items, but I'm going to be short and sweet for a change and point out two things. The breaded tenderloin has in the past been noted in Indianapolis Monthly as one to try, and I agree. Go for the ulitmate. There is something about the Coke there that reminds you, "oh yeah, that's the way Coke is supposed to be". They will drizzle melted marshmallow on the top of your soda or pop or soda pop, and I tend to like it on red cream soda. read more

We drove up to Rochester to meet our good friend Richard P for lunch, and decided to choose the Streamliner. I won't say I'm sorry that we went--but I left rather underwhelmed. Our server was capable, but, in my mind, not especially friendly nor welcoming. Don't get me wrong--she wasn't rude, by any means--but we got the feeling she'd rather be anywhere else than at her job. I ordered the Reuben sandwich. It was decent. Not great, but not bad either. The fries that came with it were---fine. It's one of those places that if a friend wanted to me us there, sure, we'd go, but it wouldn't be our first choice if we're back in the area. read more

My husband and always eat here when in Rochester. I almost always get the spicy chicken strips but today I finally found out what all the fuss is about with the Ultimate Grilled Tenderloin. A hot, fresh loin loaded with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato on a big bun. I chose the Country Cuts potatoes, you get your choice, included. The platter also came with their amazingly creamy Cole slaw and a dill spear. SO good and so filling. Great price, too. Staff is always friendly and tentative. We were in town to visit family - and they rave about this place. So we thought we'd give it another try. Plus, it's easy to find. They are famous for the tenderloin sandwich, so that's what we both had. It wasn't terrible. The cole slaw was the high light of the meal. We got pie to go and it was pretty good, but not home made. The service is slow and not very friendly. The best thing about this place is that their plants are doing so well.! Had to remind our waitress several times that we had not yet received our food. Eventually a few of us received our food, but the rest sat without eating the entire time. We go to the Streamliner anytime we're visiting my husband's family in Rochester. I love their Cokes (you Coke fiends out there will understand this) - they use crushed ice and there's little white bubbles around the edges of the ice when they bring your drink out. The old location had the edge over this location, but that was mostly because of a guy named Mike who worked there. (I hope this finds you well, Mike - you brought back some of my best childhood memories just from the way you kept the Coke machine tuned.) Regardless, they have some of the finest Cokes I've ever had. The food is pretty standard diner fare. I've enjoyed everything I've tried and their homestyle potatoes are great. read more

Good little local stop. We did dinner here with our three Littles on our way to Michigan - it was easy to get to off of US 31 so it worked well. Good burger type menu. Kids were happy with the kids meals - but pretty pricey at $6.95 for a kids meal. The burgers were ok but again kind of steep for the atmosphere at $12.00 with fries. Restaurants are slim pickings here so it worked but I'm not sure we'd try it again. Staff was friendly and food was delivered promptly. Could use crayons for kids. read more

This place never disappoints! We always make sure to stop when we are in Rochester visiting family! Of all the options I have to choose from here in Omaha, where I live, I would probably pick the Streamliner over most places! The staff is friendly and always very accommodating for our large family we sometimes have 15 in our party give or take a few. When we are in a party that big however they always put us in the back room and sometimes the service isn't wonderful and the waitress forgets to check on us. The mac and cheese nuggets are my favorite thing! If I am in town I will order those for pick up and go through the drive through for a snack! The other food is good but comparable to many other places. Another of the favorites among our family is the coke with the marshmallow topping on top we always have fun with that! read more

Try the pork tenderloin, not the Reuben. I went here twice, first time I had the Pork tenderloin and it was fine, So we went back and I ordered the Reuben. They used some kind of pasteurized processed cheese food kind of white stuff cheese instead of Swiss. I swear the Corned Beef came out of a Carl Buddig package, it was processed meat in a perfectly round shape and sliced very thin. I really was dissappointed in the sandwich I was served. read more

Went here after the Notre Dame game and found it to be pretty tasty. There were 6 of us four got the tenderloin, breaded, one a pizza and one the hot dog for kids. The tenderloins were very tasty and thick not the shoe leather kind. The ultimate tenderloin is the way to go. The fries were good but some tasted like they had been sitting for a while. Popped in based on the Yelp reviews and the Streamliner did not disappoint. We started with the suicides. Really interesting....very sweet. Between the 9 of us we tried a variety...double bacon cheese burgers, tenderloins, patty melt, etc... It was all delicious and reasonably priced. I see a lot of negative reviews but don't understand them. The servers are warm and friendly and never let my coffee cup go empty. The ice cream sundae was excellent. I had the fish sandwich with cheese and it cost less than McDonald's. The country cut potatoes with sour cream were excellent--again less than McDonald's. They serve seven days a week which for Rochester is amazing since every other place closes early on Sunday and aren't even open on Monday. They also are open later in the evening than any others in town except fast food joints. I've also had the nachos and they were huge and good. The scallops are great at under 12 bucks. The tenderloins are great and were included in the top 46 shops in Indiana. read more
