Nice time at The Landing Restaurant
Charlie A.

We live at Smith Mountain Lake and boated to The Landing Restaurant for dinner. Our server was personable and sat us near a window. We enjoyed a beautiful view of the lake. Two of us ordered the Pittsburgh Filet (angus beef tenderloin with Bordelaise sauce). The other two in the group had the Ahi Tuna. Our food was delicious. It was a nice evening. We highly recommend The Landing Restaurant.

We had an outdoor reservation for dinner at this restaurant while visiting SML over the memorial weekend. The staff at check-in desk was very unwelcoming. She noticed us a few times while checking in others in front of us. She then had them seated, looked at us again from across the dining hall and proceeded to walk around the dining area without acknowledging our group. She then sent another girl who helped us check in, we were told they didn't have any outdoor seating and that we had to wait for an hour to get seated outside. I told them that I had specifically asked for an outdoor seat while booking the table. Anywho we were too tired of waiting so went ahead with the indoor seating while noticing multiple open seats outside unoccupied. 15 mins into dinner we saw them folding all the umbrellas outside cause only a couple tables were occupied. Anyway on the plus side our server Neil was great, gave us some good recommendations and made up for the unpleasant behavior from the other ladies. While the food was great I think being hospitable to your customers is equally important. Identifying particular members of the staff that require extra training can prove helpful. Hence the 2 stars. Food recommendation- Seafood Tacu Tacu, Chilean Sea bass, Tomato Basil soup dumpling, Ahi Tuna & Chocolate Cremeux.

The restaurant was at a very convenient location where we stayed. Upon arrival, it took a while for the host to come to the front and get us seated. We ordered cocktails upon arrival, which were good. I ordered the BLT and significant other ordered the pork duet. The BLT was good but chutney was very sweet. The pork belly was also overcooked. The pork duet wasn't bad but nothing special, chutney also very sweet so threw off the dish. After receiving our food, the waitress didn't come back to check on us for an hour. Overall, convenient but service wasn't great.

We visited The Landing at their original location 3 years ago and now got to visit again at the new location. We made a reservation in advance this time, which made a big difference in where we were seated, so I would recommend doing the same! Our Pittsburgh Filets and sides were delicious. Staff were all very friendly and even offered to take some photos of us outside. Our server let us sit for probably 15 minutes before taking our order, however. That aside, it was a lovely evening and we will certainly return next time we are in SML.

A bit of Peru with a French twist. Bruno, a classically trained French Chef brings a unique and talented perspective to rural Virginia. If you're in a hurry, you're in the wrong place. If you don't make reservations at The Chef's Table, you'll miss the show, the art and the experience. Our dinner was sublime and my only regret was my inability to eat more than one entree.

While vacationing at SML, we boated over for dinner at The Landing. There aren't many good restaurants in the area but this is one of them. We ate on the deck but the bar area looked quite inviting too. The service was excellent, the food very nice and we just had an all around excellent experience. For apps we shared the fried oysters, the caviar chicken wings, tuna tartar and the soup dumplings. Loved them all. For entrees I had the Lomo saltado which was not the typical Peruvian dish but an interesting twist. Others in my posse had the sea bass, the fried duck, jambalaya, lobster spaghetti and some ravioli concoction. Everyone was very happy. Until we got in our boat and had to navigate home for 20 mins in the pitch black on the night. But we made it.

Food was excellent. It took us over two hours to get our meal, however and service from the kitchen was horrendous. Beware.

No manufactured "concept restaurant" nonsense. Just a quiet room wrapped in Peruvian decor that feels lived in instead of staged -- the kind of place where people still care more about flavor than branding. I ordered a beautifully cooked steak topped with chimichurri, sweet fried plantains with caramelized edges, and a slab of Tacu Tacu crowned with a fried egg that looked like it had absolutely no business being as good as it was. Every bite tasted intentional. The steak had a proper char, the chimichurri was bright and unapologetic, and the Tacu Tacu delivered that perfect combination of crisp exterior and rich, comforting depth that makes you slow down for a second just to appreciate it. Service was warm without hovering -- professional people who seemed genuinely proud of what they were serving. Places like this are why you leave the house. Honest food. Real hospitality. No gimmicks. Just a damn good meal. Yelp Review There's a particular joy in finding a restaurant that isn't trying to become an influencer backdrop. Inka Grill feels like a place built for eating first -- and that's a compliment of the highest order. The room is quiet, decorated with Peruvian touches that feel personal instead of corporate. You can actually sit, breathe, and enjoy your meal without competing against a nightclub soundtrack or a birthday siren every six minutes. The food was excellent. A beautifully cooked steak under a vivid green chimichurri, fried plantains with crisp caramelized edges, and a deeply satisfying Tacu Tacu topped with a fried egg that somehow turned comfort food into an event. This is the kind of plate you attack immediately and then think about again later that night. And the service -- attentive, relaxed, human. Nobody reciting scripts. Nobody rushing you out the door. Just good people serving food they clearly believe in. Roanoke needs more places like this.

After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Inka Grill Peruvian Cuisine in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. I've been eating at this restaurant since they were in another location and then through Door Dash delivery, as a matter of fact the main photograph on their Yelp website is a close-up of their Lomo Saltado I took from the container delivered through Door Dash. So today I decided to go visit for the first time their Cave Spring location on Brambleton Ave in Roanoke, Virginia. Located inside a small, clean building, but nothing fancy, the success of this restaurant has been the fresh ingredients they use to make their wonderful recipes. My two favorite dishes are the Lomo Saltado and their Bistec a lo Pobre. And the main reason why I like them is the top quality meat they use. It is so tender and tasty and at reasonable prices, that can compete with many of the most expensive restaurants in the area, and come on top. When I arrived at the restaurant there was a group of three Hispanic ladies having dinner there. Later an American older couple with a college age daughter also came in and sat at the table text to mine. They all seemed to have something in common: steady customers very familiar with the menu and their favorite items. My server Lizbeth greeted and welcomed me to the restaurant, took me to my table, and handed me the menu. Not too extensive but each of the few items were much to be desired. To drink I had a glass of Chicha Morada, a very popular non-alcoholic drink from Peru. As an appetizer I had a House Salad. For my main entrée I had a Bistec a lo Pobre cooked medium rare. It is rice and beans together forming a roll, a tender thick steak, fried ripe plantains, a fried egg, and a criolla sauce. Everything was so tasty and delicious. And for dessert I had the Tres Leche. It is said that a picture is work a thousand words. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourself, the amazing food. I highly recommend this restaurant to all. Once you try their amazingly delicious food, you will want to come back for more.

It's more modern and elegant than that of their first restaurant on Brambleton Ave. Although the service there is superb. When I arrived a young lady greeted me, took me to my table, gave me the menu and asked what I wanted to drink. After consulting with her on what they had, I asked for a mango drink. It was mighty good, like a mango juice served in a tall glass. For appetizer I order an Avocado Salad with Sea Salt. It was just slices of an avocado with salt on the side. It would have been better with some oil and vinegar as well. For ma main entrée I order.one of my favorites on their menu the Bistec a lo Pobre. This is basically a steak with a special rice, a fried egg, and fried ripe plantain. Inside of the special rice I asked for white rice and black beans. My server goes to the kitchen to see if this was possible, but comes back saying it would be a $2.95 extra to include the black beans. I told her to go ahead. When the food comes out she puts it on the table and leaves. I thought she went to get the black beans but they never arrive. The food looks great but when I cut the steak it was well done and I asked for medium rare. When she goes to bring something to another table I called her and tell her about the steak and the black beans that was missing. She offers to make me another steak but the piece of meat tooked so well and I was so hungry that I decided to eat it like that. She repeated that the black beans would be an extra charge. I told her I didn't mind. She finally brings me the black beans. The beans themselves were a bit hard and not as tasty. The ones I had at Panera Bread the other day were 100% better, but I pour them on top of the rice and eat them like this. For dessert I ordered a Passion Fruit Mousse. It was good but a bit dry and lacked sugar. I still enjoyed my meal but can't understand why they always overcook the steak when medium rare taste so much better. When I order it for delivery via Door Dash, most of the time it arrives well done as well. I still love the Peruvian cuisine of this restaurant, they should just train the new servers better so they can better communicate with the customers and chef. And I think the manager should have come out to at least apologize for the confusion. For this reason this time I'm only given them 4 stars.

We ordered the whole chicken with yucca and plantains and a side of black beans. The food was good and price was reasonable. With all of the choices in downtown, not sure I would make a special trip to eat there again. But if downtown and want to try a Peruvian meal, it is worth a visit. As I was reading the other reviews it reminded me that we, also, had to ask for the black beans after the rest of our food was brought to the table. They were good, nothing special.

The first time I came across them was during the Saturday morning Downtown Charlottesville City Market (pre-covid). I've also encountered them at Charlottesville Festival of Cultures (pre-covid) and most recently at the Autumn Nights Thursday Night Market (which ended in October *SAD*).  We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, lomo saltado and tried a few empanadas (the chicken empanada & the beef, egg & olive empanada. Amidst everything eaten, the pulled pork sandwich truly stole the show! The sandwich included a heap of Wandering River Farm pork shoulder with pickled red onions and jalapenos on a light, fluffy bun. The meat wasn't thinly pulled like I'be seen in many American based pulled pork sandwiches, but more broken into small, juicy tenderized bite size morsels, lathered in an amazing creamy spicy sauce and then piled on top of the buns - overflowing onto the platter with a side of fried sweet potatoes. The fried sweet potatoes were also pretty good - they kept their shape and were actually fried in thin circular slices. Unfortunately, by the time we demolished the pulled pork sandwiches, they had lost some of their fresh crunch and thus were a bit softer than expected, but nonetheless the fried sweet potatoes were a good side dish to the sandwich! The lomo saltado was stir fried beef tenderloin with onions and tomatoes, served with a side of papas fritas (hand cut potato fries) and white rice. This dish was prepared on the spot - cooked over an open stove and thus the flavors were super fresh and worth the wait~ The empanadas had thicker, doughier shells (which I really appreciated) and were filled to the brim with meat. Not super spicy but the sauces that came with them really gave the flavor an extra

One of…read morethe ones I picked was Aji Fusion, a Peruvian food restaurant which reasantly opened its doors in one of the store fronts of the historic Patrick Henry Building in Roanoke, Virginia. Conveniently located in a very central location in front of the Roanoke Social Security office and next to the Rookie's Ice Cream Shop, it has on street parking spaces where you can park to get there When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly hostetest who also served as my waitress. She spoke good English but was extremely happy when she found out I spoke perfect Spanish, the language we both used to communicate from then on. She took me to my table and handed me the menu. I was already familiar with some of the items on the menu through their nice website with beautiful pictures of their food dishes. To drink, I asked her to give me a special fruit juice from Peru. She brought me a Chicha Morada drink, and it tasted deliciously refreshing. I ordered a house salad to start with and a Bistec a lo Pobre as my main course. She took the order and quickly walked to the kitchen without asking me how I wanted my steak cooked. This is a detail that should never happen in a restaurant when ordering a steak dish. As I waited for my food, I looked around and observed a very clean restaurant with open space and beautiful hardwood floors. The walls were nicely painted in a lightly pink-creamy color with a few framed pictures all around the walls. This gave the restaurant a relaxed yet distinguished decor that gave one a comfortable feeling alone as well as with family and friends. The first item that arrived at my table was the house salad. The waitress also had forgotten to ask me what dressing I wanted, so I asked her if she could change the one she brought me to a balsamic vinegarette. Besides being one I liked, I find that salads photograph very well with this one. The salad had carrots, tomatoes, avocado, onions, and lettuce, of course. I found everything in it very good except the lettuce was the cheapest kind and that is something I would rather not eat. Then as I was still eating my salad, my waitress brings me the main course. This odd timing broke the tempo of being able to enjoy a relaxing dining experience. The Bisteck a lo Pobre, the main course tasted well, even though the steak was well done and I like my steaks more medium rare. But it was juicy and well seasoned, and the entire dish was very flavorful. Overall, I feel that if management acts on my positive feedback given here and trains the waitresses better, this restaurant would be very successful, and therefore recommend it as a relaxed place to eat for family and friends.
