On my way back home from DC going that back way and I finally decided I needed a break around Lynchburg, VA. So I pulled out the trusty Yelp app to see if there might be something interesting to try in the area. I landed on a well rated Peruvian fast-casual place called Colca's Chicken and decided to stop in. This is a newer building, but the layout is a little odd in the sense that all parking is around the side and back, and because of the topography, you have to walk around to the road-side to get in. Only really pertinent if you are a person with mobility issues, fine by me. The style is fast casual, and they offer anything from simple sandwiches, to monster burritos, and entree platters. I saw someone getting a burrito and it looked really good, so I went for the "Colca"s Chicken burrito" which came with Marinated Chicken, Peruvian Fried Rice, Peruvian Chickpeas, Queso Fresco, Peruvian Onions, Cilantro, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Roasted Peruvian Corn, traditional Peruvian Aji Yellow Sauce. Sorry for all those caps, i copy pasted from their website. First thing... what a monster. There was so much protein and fillings in this thing that the guy making mine completely failed to roll it properly. Just wasnt possible. He did his best but a big tear opened up in the side. I told him it was OK, and he just wrapped it over with foil. I was able to eat about half before grabbing a fork and having the rest more like a bowl. Honestly though, it was so big, a little more than half was all I wanted. I wish I could say I enjoyed all of it thoroughly, but one of the elements, the roasted corn, made it difficult. The corn was so over-roasted that all the kernels were hard. It was nearly like biting into a popcorn kernel, but thankfully, they did break apart once you bit in. Whenever I hit some, it was unpleasant. Once I got in with a fork, I did my best ot separate them out, but kept hitting some. I also wasn't a huge fan of the garbanzo beans. I would know better on both items for next time. In general though, with that knowledge, I think my next experience would be better, if I get that chance. Seems like a great local place to go for an interesting meal. read more

Roasted chicken with 3 side sauces to pick from is excellent. Lomo saltado is a dish you must try. Beef or chicken with sautéed onions and peppers with a side of rice and your choice of another side. Our favorite is the sweet plantains. Very friendly staff, Andre will meet you at the register and happily help you decide what to pick. Very clean and family environment. read more

I want to start by saying the owner is so kind and helpful!! The place is very clean and love the wall art!! Just a great casual spot! That I had the quarter dark chicken and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. With that I had the Yuka and green beans. The Yuka was creamy inside and had a nice crunch on the outside. The green beans were still nice and crunchy with a delicious smoky flavor!! Husband had a burrito which was Huge and he loved it. They have a spicy aïoli sauce which the group loved! I was very happy when I saw that this place was opening and it was very close to where I lived, unfortunately that happiness was short lived. Some of your staff were very friendly and open but there were a few that weren't, however this didn't stop me from making an order. I took a person with me to try out this places and raved about how flavorful and good Peruvian cuisine is but this place made me seem like a liar. I got the 1/4 chicken with rice, then decided that it wasn't enough chicken and for 1/2 as well. The chicken had no flavor and was tasted as if it was only seasoned with salt (heavily) The rice was hard and dry and the yellow sauce isn't good either. My friend got the lomo saltado and the presentation alone would leave you wanting to go somewhere else. This is a horrible representation of authentic Peruvian cuisine and now I have to travel far to get it somewhere else. read more

Food is delicious. Ordering from the menu and paying is slightly confusing, but once you order, the food is good. They give very reasonable portions for the price and many toppings are included. In fact, I asked them to put LESS chicken since I don't enjoy large portions of meat in my tacos. We really enjoyed their plantains and yucca (root vegetable) fries. The restaurant looked clean. Workers are very nice and accommodating. There are no waiters. It's similar to a chipotle style restaurant where you walk through the line and then can sit and eat. As a Hispanic, I'm especially happy to have other Hispanic food options in Lynchburg. read more

I've been waiting for a Peruvian chicken place to come to Lynchburg since I moved back! This place did not disappoint! I am so glad they're open and have the flavors I've been craving. We got the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides, plus 2 sides. Everything was so good and fresh! I am only giving 4 stars because there are a couple recommendations: re- word the sweet potatoes to sweet potato fries. We were surprised when we got fries..they were good, but not what we were expecting. I think they need better ventilation..the place was smoked out from the charcoal. Also, maybe hire someone to manage /float/just help. It was pure chaos in there and no one seemed to really know their part. We ordered to go, the dine-in line was almost out the door, and there's no to go place to grab your food. I received a text saying our food was ready, and we still waited 10 minutes after that. They've only been open 2 weeks, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. And none of those suggestions would deter us from coming back, don't worry!
